  1. Exactly. I hope he's found his swing too but I'm just worried that if he OPS something like .750-.800 the rest of the year, everyone will justify his poor play for the first 4 months (though April was pretty decent). Then they will want to stick with him as the starter next year, leaving Green expendable. Regardless of what he does from here on out, Green should have been on the team for at least a month, getting a few starts a week at 3rd. Then we could have at least seen what he brought to the table. He may have proved to be an asset and someone we could use on the playoff roster. If not, he could be sent back down. Now he won't even be considered and we could be stuck with Kotsay/Counsell/Wilson.
  2. I'm not saying I want a 6th option but it would probably be better than Kotsay, Counsell, and Wilson. If it was Gamel, it could be the best option period. I just don't understand why Dillard couldn't pitch a 6th/7th inning here and there. We want Saito and Hawkins healthy and rested down the stretch so I think he could fill in when we have comfortable leads (at least 3) instead of pitching those guys multiple days.
  3. I highly doubt you need 2 relievers to throw 3-4 innings each. Even if the starter only lasts 1 inning, Estrada could pitch 3 and Dillard 2 and that gets you to the 7th. That being said, I think Dillard could handle pitching 2-3 innings even if he pitched 1 the day before. We're not saying he should pitch every game or even every other game. But it would be nice for him to get more than one appearance a month. It seems like Roenicke lost all confidence in him after he was roughed up by the tough AL lineups of Tampa, Boston, and NY. And after looking at the box scores from those games, it looks like all RBI against him were from lefties/switch-hitters except for one. Obviously he shouldn't be pitching to those hitters because of his delivery. I agree he could be used as insurance as a long-reliever but I also think he could handle an inning or even a couple batters twice a week to stay sharp.
  4. I thought that was Estrada's role? Considering Dillard is really only effective against righties, I don't think he'd make a good LR just because he can go multiple innings. If the team is all RH then sure. I think he should be used as a 6th/7th inning option against righties, especially if we're up by a few runs. He's not going to stay sharp if he doesn't get any work in.
  5. Even if McGehee and Yuni get back on track for the next two months, they were so awful in the first half of the season that they would still end up costing us wins overall. Obviously McGehee wasn't going to be replaced immediately but Green should've been given a shot by the all-star break. But I understand why they wanted to give each a chance to break out of it. What I don't understand is how Counsell and Kotsay continue to get ABs. Sure they might not play as much as the starters but when they are being used as our #1/2 PHs, they are hurting the team. I think we have more than capable replacement PHs in AAA. Even if Green/Gamel went 1-45, that would be better than Counsell. I really hope at least one of them is called up by 8/31 so they can be on the playoff roster. I want no part of having to rely on Counsell/Kotsay during that time. As much success as Counsell as had in the playoffs in the past, he is completely lost now and I don't think his past should dictate his spot on the roster.
  6. Why would La Russa complain about something in his home park? He can control whatever he wants there. /halfblue
  7. I hope you were joking. McGehee would never say "That's how Tony rolls."
  8. Exactly what I thought. I didn't know if this was meant to be a joke or not. ilovebeer wrote it. It wasn't a joke spelling. That's what I figured but I didn't want to come out and say it. I'm half-surprised there wasn't a score update attached to it.
  9. I don't know, even if McGehee "breaks out of it" soon, he still hurt us from April through July. Obviously they weren't going to replace him at the beginning of the year but I still think Green should have been given a shot at the end of June/beginning of July. That being said, it doesn't seem like Green is coming up anytime soon (and therefore wouldn't be on a playoff roster if we make it) so I hope McGehee does break out.
  10. Exactly what I thought. I didn't know if this was meant to be a joke or not.
  11. If we make it to the playoffs, there's no way Kotsay, Counsell, and Wilson should all be on the roster. I could maybe stomach 1 but there is just too much garbage on the bench now. Hopefully Weeks and Gomez can both get back to take 2 of those spots.
  12. McGehee!!! Maybe he really did find his stroke? (Still doubtful)
  13. He looks a lot better if you factor in all the strikes called balls. That doesn't explain serving up a meatball to Furcal, though. Yeah he might not have gotten a few calls but he's also served some meatballs like you said.
  14. That right there is one of the reasons I'm not a big Hart fan. I know Braun has bad fielding instincts too but his offense more than makes up for it. Hart is solid offensively but not enough to make up for his defensive problems (IMO).
  15. McGehee!!!! Could he really have found his stroke back? (Doubtful)
  16. Wish we could've seen more of that hustle on Berk's Texas Leaguer last night, but past is past I think Braun was running as hard as he could, he just started way too far back and probably got a bad jump.
  17. Nice hustle double. Looks like Braun may actually be healthy.
  18. Not a big Hart fan but he has been playing well lately. Keep it up.
  19. I still think he will be suspended. Maybe 12 hours was too quick a turnaround time to gather all the facts.
  20. Then have Gomez pinch-run in the last inning of the season. Problem solved.
  21. If that's why he's on the team, I'll take his roster spot for the league minimum. And I'll fart during games too.
