  1. More free baseball! <<<*** CRY***>>>
  2. Cameron, please be the hero. I want to go to bed with a smile on my face!
  3. but in any case, I just looked and Fielder is hitting .233 this year with RISP, .180 with RISP and two outs. Not good. By your definition, most of those AB really weren't clutch situations anyway. What, only walk off hits? Obviously, everyone is free to define clutch in their own way. If I'm just trying to measure the impact of a batter's performance relative to the chance of his team winning, I just use WPA: http://www.fangraphs.com/...?team=Brewers&season=2008 Overall this year, he's done well according to that metric.
  4. How the heck could Bruce take those pitches!!
  5. well the ump called it a strike and has called it a strike often tonight, so yeah he should have protected the plate Swing at everything, so you can complain that batters are up there hacking at balls? Naaaa, I'm sure that wouldn't happen.
  6. Was that a hit and run? What the heck?
  7. Cams ball was outside, but you still have to at least foul the ball off. The ump has been a little off and on, on the corner so you have to protect. So with two strikes, batters should swing at pitches they know are balls, just in case the ump blows the call? Again, this is Schroeder's line of thinking and it's how you end up with a career OBP of .281.
  8. man, you just have to protect when you have two strikes. Both Cam and Hall Kd on the same damn pitch You are listening to the rock way too much. Cam's pitch was was outside.
  9. He had the only RBI in Sheets 1-0 win over Peavy. Yeh, but that was like 4 days ago!
  10. Pitch f/x thought that third called strike call against Cammy was terrible, for what it's worth.
  11. I think it's time for Melvin to admit a mistake and upgrade the infield defense next year. It isn't working.
  12. Wow. That's why you keep watching. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Why was Yost even considering Counsell as a pinch hitter? Just call on your best hitters to pinch hit. Counsell should be almost the last choice no matter what the situation is.
  13. I'm not saying the ever tightening playoff race isn't making me nervous. I just don't assume that bad play now means bad play later. What baseball fans want to do is assume that good or bad playing teams have a greater chance of continuing that kind of play for the immediate future. For the average team, the numbers just don't support that theory. If you want to attribute that to the Brewers specifically, I can't disprove it statistically. I'm just not on board with it. The Brewers and every other team can go from great to terrible to great so fast that it's pretty obvious to me that it's largely just the randomness of the dice rolls. Right now, those dice rolls have been pretty brutal to the Brewers. I'm not sure if that's going to comfort anyone here but it gets me through these cold, cold nights. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  14. I realize Hall had a bad situation last year (injuries and changing positions) but he's just been SO bad this year that it's hard to find an explanation. The guy has a sub .300 OBP in over 350 AB this year! Not good.
  15. I can't speak for anyone else but I'm not contending that Prince hasn't gained weight. I just don't think the 20ish lbs of weight he might have gained from last year has had much if any effect on his offensive performance. Just my opinion.
  16. Prince was always a terrible defender and gained some weight during the 06-07 offseason as well, but people largely ignored it because he hit 50 HRs and was an offensive power last year. I don't imagine his weight is helping him but to say his recent struggles is so obviously a result of weight ignores the facts. His weight is only one factor and has an unknown negative contribution to his ofensive and defensive performance. And does the blame mob always have to find one guy to single out for every losing streak? It's so darn predictable. I'm sure you can find a number of underperforming players to blame if you felt so inclinded. I know it's not as emotionally satisfying to not have a single person to direct your frustrations at but at least try to remain objective?
  17. I was reading all about the Brewers' "collapse" in the JS during lunch. I looked at the standings and noticed "4-6" under the "last 10" column for the Brewers. They are 5-6 over the last 11! Pretty darn mild of a collapse if you ask me! It would have been great to have wrapped up a poast season appearance by mid Sept. but it's not going to happen. Just take a step back and look at the big picture.
  18. Sure, this place was a ghost town when the Brewers were 4 games under. Sure, there are a lot of fans who are only going to pay attention when the Brewers are winning. There will be some public backlash if the Crew blows it but if they start winning again next year, people wll show up and root for the team.
  19. If Mark A. is as smart as he looks, he'll know that a 2-6 run means the season is over and stay away.
  20. Just because I wouldn't want to switch places with a team doesn't mean that the team has no chance of winning. Even considering the schedule, the Brewers are the clear favorites but that doesn't mean they couldn't blow it. That's just how it works. I tried to show how the schedule differences don't amount to wild swings in expected wins in in a recent thread but no one commented. I just wish I could steal 2 wins from that great August and exchange them with a couple of these September losses. The Brewers would be in the exact same position but everyone would be upbeat around here. My advice? Stop trying to extrapolate the play of the last week over the restof the season. Unless a bad streak is a reflection of loss of talent through injuries, that's not how it works. Parra might be the only guy a person could be legitimately concered about, as he might be wearing down, down the stretch. Just in time for Yo? Come on, people, things are just starting to get interesting!
  21. "Ned allows Kendall and Counsell to bat trailing by one in the 9th." Those kind of things piss me more than anything else because that stuff can be controlled. Yost let his two worst hitters bat because he hasn't figured out yet that they are terrible, offensively. That's the scary part. As for panic mode, no thanks. I'm just going to see what happens and hope for the best. I'd still rather be the Brewers than the Cardinals or Phillies and so would they.
  22. Can he win 15? That's probably going to be tough. He has four more starts: @ Philly @ Chicago vs Pit vs Chicago
  23. The Astros are behind the Cardinals and are not a good team. They've been outscored over the first 140+ games. If someone is going on an improbable run, it would be the Cardinals before the Astros. I'll add the Phillies soon.
  24. Opps. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
