  1. I think 14-12 might be the expected result, statistically. Maybe 15.
  2. ZiPs pegged Prince's SLG at .571 for the 2008 season, so some dropoff was expected (from .618 in 07') but much of it was not. I think sbrylski's numbers show that Prince just hasn't hit the ball as hard as he did in 2007, for whatever reason. I have no idea why but feel that using his (presumed) weight gain as an explanation is terribly implausible. Plenty of big guys had no problem keeping their raw power and it's not like Prince has gained much weight from last year, anyway.
  3. 14-12 and the wildcard is my guess. I see the SOS as being a wash, personally. On a serious note: Your "serious note" has them playing .846 ball for a month? 102 wins would be great and all but come on. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. As small as it is, the chances of the Brewers catching the Cubs is still greater than both Philli and the Mets finishing ahead of the Crew. Gotta root for a Cubs loss. Besides, I'd rather the Brewers play Philli in the first round, rather than the Mets.
  5. "But anyway, this is a wildcard discussion, so back to it." I said playoff pitching to begin with. 3 man rotation. I'll take CC/Sheets/Parra over the Cubs' options, for sure. A bullpen of Torres/Bush/Suppan isn't bad, either. I see no advantage to the Cubs.
  6. I think the Brewers' bullpen is easily as bad as last year's.
  7. All a bold prediction means is that someone wouldn't be willing to bet a dime on it happening. Let me know if I'm wrong. The Cubs could lose in the first round but the odds certainly aren't over 45%
  8. "I think if you are going to judge someone by how many RBI they have, you should probably look at how often they come to plate with men on. Counsell only has 89 ABs with men on and only 48 ABs with RISP. It is true that Counsell has performed poorly with men on and with RISP, but it puts things into more perspective when we have more detail and we realize that the sample size we are dealing with is somewhat small." I agree with all of that. All that really needs to be known is that he currently projects to be around a .225/.320/.320 hitter. For a 3B, that's absolutely laughable.
  9. The chance of the wildcard coming out of the NL West is extremely remote at this point.
  10. Stubhub charges the buyer 10-15%, some of which I'm sure is kicked back to the Brewers.
  11. I don't think the Cubs have any real advantage over the Brewers in the playoff pitching department. Their advantage is in the offensive department and it's huge. The Brewers' #7 and #8 hitters are just terrible.
  12. The job is pretty darn labor intensive, so $500 doesn't sound that unreasonable to me.
  13. I think the Cardinals have proven they aren't going away Right now, the Cardinals have a 9% chance of making the playoffs, according to BP. One small mistake and they will become irrelevant. The great thing about that last season series is that the Cubs won't be playing for anything. No Harden or Zambrano.
  14. The Brewers raised their ticket prices last year but gave season ticket holders (even the 20 gamers) the 2007 prices, on top of the season ticket discount. Stuff like that cultivates loyalty.
  15. O, it will be the current arrangement until the end. I'm sure Yost has been tickled pink with Counsell's play over the last month, plus. Take last night for example. Did you see how fast counsell ran to 1B, while losing a foot race to the bag? That kind of stuff doesn't show up in the boxscore. If the Brewers do make the playoffs, I simply can't WAIT for the articles and network attention Counsell is going to get. Leading yet another team to the playoffs!
  16. Provided that the celebration isn't directed toward your opponent, what's wrong with doing it in game? Are there other sports where showing emotional satisfaction on the field is frowned upon? The Cardinals are not handling their third place status very well.
  17. Look I get it. There are a lot of people on this board who believe Rickie's "potential" will finally show someday. His draft position and pre-professional career expectations mean nothing to me anymore. Water under the bridge. I'm just trying to measure Week's performance against other MLB 2B at this point. I still think he's below average but that doesn't mean I'm going to call every out he makes pathetic, either. Despite is disappointing year offensively, I think he's still above average for a 2B. Defensively? Ummm.
  18. I'm just sick of Weeks sucking. That is all. Well, gameday was behind, so I assumed that he did something terrible, like get a single but get thrown out at 2B. I see now that his terrible action was making an out. Interesting. Dissappointing loss. Time to move on.
  19. Vintage Weeks there. God he sucks, I'm sorry Weeks fans/apologists. I cant stand him. What happened? According to BP, before this game, the Brewers had about as much chance of catching the Cubs as other wildcard teams had of catching the Brewers.
  20. Why is Mota warming up and not Torres?
  21. It's depressing that the Brewers think Riske is the second best reliever on the team and they might be right.
  22. The problem with the MVP is that no one knows what it is. The first step seems to be to make sure that you are on a good team.
  23. Why does it even matter who was the first to scoop something that was guaranteed to be public knowledge in a short time, anyway? Now exactly a government conspiracy kind of scoop.
  24. There seems to be some misunderstanding regarding my position: 1. I didn't say sportswriting was easy (my 19 year old comment was referring to the so called inside information Tom provides on his blog). Read my blog for 5 minutes or my posts here and it's clear that I am no word-smith. 2. I didn't say all sportwriters are bad. I read a lot or articles from all different sports and enjoy most of them. I think Tom's particular brand of sports writing is very popular in baseball and I think it sucks. That's my personal opinion and I may be in the minority but I know I'm not the only one who doesn't like it.
