  1. 1. I thought the marking were only visable under a blue-light 2. If we are talking about the HR Derby interview, all he was talking about was possibly subconciously trying to hit more HRs when he saw the balls changed.
  2. Make this interesting, Soriano. A game tying HR would be fine in my book. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. How come NFL fans eat up any statistical analysis of their sport but MLB fans are threatened by it? Is it because football fans realize that everything hasn't already been figured out? I have to say, Moneyball certainly didn't help foster goodwill between the two factions, though.
  4. Now Buck is telling the fans what they are willing to tolerate with regard to performance enhancing drugs? Just shut up and tell me who just grounded out, please.
  5. 1-2-bloop-groundball single-3. Good enough.
  6. Prince showing off his gun during his spot http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. What bomb did he drop? That seeing them switch balls makes him think about hitting HRs?
  8. Here's some of his classic Brewer analysis: LINK I wonder if he hurt poor Coco's feelings.
  9. For the record, I'm not even saying Capuano is perfectly fine and there is nothing to worry about. The fact that he has been recently injured needs to be considered, among other things.
  10. until I found out he cant even speak english without an interpreter. that's rediculous. Wow.
  11. Again, are you trying to judge: A. A players' true ability based the results of his performances. B. The results of his performances. I don't think you and others are appreciating the significance of that distinction. Until you do, you'll not only continuously come to the erroneous conclusion that our arguments are absurd, you may even feel "sad" for us poor saps that are still willing to accept sub-par performances from players on a winning team. A person can be both unhappy with a player's current performance and optimistic about his possible future performance.
  12. Everyone can use what standards they prefer when evaluating/comparing players,i just in general am not a big fan of using career stats when evaluating a player in the present. Many projection systems only look at the last 3 years, weighting the most recent season more than the prior 2 (like 60/20/10, for instance). I liek to use Tango's "Marcel" system, because it's the simplest and least subjective: LINK Here's what Robert's preseason projection was: .292 / .360 / .442 / .805 Compare that to his actual line so far: .322 / .405 / .443 / .848 I could see expecting something around this for the rest of the year: .300 / .375 / .425 / .800 That's obviously very valuable. He's gets $6.3M in 2008 and $8M in 2009, so I'm not sure what Melvin would do about that: LINK I don't see Baltimore wanting to trade him and I don't see Melvin wanting to deal with a 2B that's signed through 2009, though. If Weeks' recent struggles is due to nagging issues, he should just be shut down. I personally think we'll see an upswing in Weeks' production, however.
  13. I think it would be interesting to lightly pencil in Yo to follow Vargas every start. Maybe a 5IP / 2-3IP approach. I'd rather Yo not make a bunch of 1 IP appearances anyway, so this might limit his innings while still keeping him at least a bit stretched out. I think Villy is too valuable to not just use him as needed.
  14. What's "sad" is when fans can't get beyond emotional rhetoric when others are attempting to objectively assess a player's performance. I want to know whether I should be concerned about Capuano going forward, not whether I can justify being satisfied or angry about what he's done so far. I'm really sick of the phrase, "It's really sad that when fans think..." Especially since I always feel compelled to retort with, "What's sad is...." No more sad's, please.
  15. It's been explained many times on these boards, so I'm as surprised as you every time it's suggested to send him back down to save his arm.
  16. Perhaps, it's never smart to sign a free agent starting pitcher to a long term deal, especially when he's on the wrong side of 30?
  17. I'll laugh if Rios and Holliday make the finals.
  18. OK, this thing is reallllly dragging out. I know.... what did I expect.
  19. According to ESPN, Coco isn't an All Star?
  20. Is it too much to ask that Prince at least make it to the second round?
  21. Actually, MGl released his UZR stat and the end of May: LINK Unfortunately, a couple months of defensive data is much too small a sample to answer the question, "how good IS defender "X"". It can only answer, "how good was defender "X" for the first 2 months". Counsell was great. Graffy and Hardy were good. Fielder and Weeks were bad. Here are the results from 2003 - 2007: LINK Dewan will have his "Fielding Bible" book available this off season. His +/- system uses a similar system.
  22. Does Mark Belling even know who Graffy is?
  23. It's the one area in baseball a fan can have an opinion that cannot be disputed by stats. In game management certainly can be. If Yost started playing Jenkins every day again, you probably wouldn't have to wait for me to post a split or two. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I think that Yost does a great job with regard to the unquantifiable aspects of being a manager. He seems to have the respect to his players and seems to have the perfect personality to even out the inevitable peaks and valleys of a 162 game season. I don't care for many of his in game management, with some exceptions (his reluctance to use intentional walks makes sits well with me). Of course, most of criticisms with regard to his in game management is really a critique on major league baseball as a whole, so it's not really fair to specifically blame him. Of course, the media is just going to give to the manager of year award to the manager of whichever team is over performing their expected performance the most. The Brewers are doing well because guys like Hart, Hardy and Fielder are doing well and Sheets is healthy (starting pitching depth has helped a lot as well). If Ned deserves the manager of the year award this year, than he deserved it for every year he was in the league, because he's doing little or nothing different than in years' past. Something to write about, I guess.
  24. I like this format, because I think it gives a guy like Prince a better chance of making it to the finals... And it doesn't compel competitors to say "good enough" in round 1 and try and save some for round 2.
  25. Maybe they just mean that since the home run totals from the first round were "carried over", they become part of the semi-round? Not a very good explanation, no matter what they meant.
