  1. I am surprised that people still make such a big deal about the Brewers losing 2 of 3 from KC last year. Like a bad team is never supposed to win a series at home? The Brewers beat KC bad, KC beat the Brewers bad and the Crew lost a close game. The Brewers were outscored 12 to 14. Doesn't sound very far out of line to me.
  2. It's very tempting to stick around these parts and catch another game in person but I may have to enjoy the game on the radio as I drive back. So tempting... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. I'm so confused right now. Do the Brewers "know how to win" or not? Fans' opinions seems to change depending on the last week of games.
  4. I was at the game and there were A LOT of Brewer fans there. 40% is probably a good estimate.
  5. I never expected the Brewers to have the NL Central all sewn up by June, so why panic? The Brewers might cough up the lead altogether at some point. All that matters is where both teams are after game 162. The Cubs have a solid club, so it's probably going to be a dog fight.
  6. 21+ shutout innings for Sheets. Has any Brewer pitcher ever thrown three shutouts in a row?
  7. Not all hits are created equal. If all 7 hits hadn't been singles, they would most certainly have more than 1 run.
  8. Is that 20+ IP in a row of shutout ball for Sheets? Wow.
  9. What percentage of total base runners should an offense score? I know the Brewers have had a less than an efficient offense so far (to put it nicely) but let's keep our expectations at least reasonable, please. Hall made an out!! No!!!
  10. Didn't see this asked anywhere but is Hall nearing or made a record for most consecutive plate appearances reaching base? I think players have gone 6-6 in a single game, so I doubt he's close. I dunno, shouldn't your 2 worst hitters bat 8 and 9? I can't get that worked up about it. I certainly agree. I wouldn't want Counsell getting an extra AB over, say Jenkins, just because Yost wanted to split them up.
  11. Why is Yost hellbent on shoving the Counsell/Graffy 1-2 punch down our throats? Is Fielder already wearing down?
  12. I see. It's just constructing the traditional lineup for you. Thanks.
  13. I think we've seen the last of Gwynn in RF. If anything, Yost would at least take the (probably significant) defensive upgrade and put him in CF and DH Hall.
  14. That lineup formula was pretty much junk, if we are talking about the same thing. The guy did regression analysis to find out how valuable each position was, based on what would essentially be the average lineup. For instance, since the average #2 hitter in the majors is a below average ML hitter, that might have the effect of undervaluing the power of a #1 hitter. The whole thing was torn apart by guys a lot smarter than me, so it's not just my opinion. The tradational lineup is so close to the optimal lineup, in terms of run production, that you just aren't going to find big changes with any kind of reasonable lineup. Haudricourt wrote this yesterday: I don't know if that part about Weeks returning to the leadoff spot is just conjecture on Haudricourt's part but I actually hope it's true. Even with Weeks struggling (as a result of injuries or otherwise), he's been able to keep a decent OBP despite only batting .245. Add 25 points to that average and you have a great OBP. With Hardy's numbers coming down to something probably more realistic for him (still good numbers, don't get me wrong), I'd love to see Yost trot this lineup out against righties and just stick with it for a month or two: Weeks 2B Hart RF Braun 3B Fielder 1B Hall CF Jenkins RF Hardy SS Estrada C I know some are scared to put Estrada 8th and lose out on some walks but I don't think the "free walks at #8" phenomena is nearly as large as people suggest. He'll obviously still get the intentional walks but he's expressed a desire to be more selective, so maybe batting 8th could be a good thing anyway. Anyway, I think the above is a nice, balanced lineup with a whole lot of OBP at the #1 and #2 spot, not to mention some serious speed (no clogging the basepaths!). I think the lineup still affords some protection for Fielder as well, so he can't simply be intentionally walked so easily.
  15. the first time in BF history we are acutally supposed to look at a small sample size and be happy with it. I'm all for it. You can focus on the overall record or place in the standings, if you must. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. 6-6 in the last 12 games? Woo hoo!
  17. The Brewers are 6-6 in their last 12 games. Let's focus on that sample, instead of the SLIGHTLY larger and uglier one? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Let the healing begin! Wouldn't it feel good if Sheets and the Brewers could sneak out of Motown with a series win tomorrow? I'd gladly give up a no hitter for a series win every time.
  19. No matter the result of this game, I've seen a lot of things to make me a little more optimistic about the future. Braun flashing the leather, Hall hopefully breaking out of his mediocrity and Villy with a great emergency start. Please cap this optimism with a win, Brewers.
  20. There are just so many reasons why that HR is just wonderful to see!
  21. We are using the DH to get Miller's bat in the lineup? I like giving Estrada the night off from behind the plate so he can catch tomorrow afternoon. I guess it's a little more palatable when you consider that but it wouldn't surprise me if Yost is pulling the ol' "two days rest" thing.
  22. If they don't know they are doing that, I don't think they will be able to answer your question. Some must know, especially with their opinion regarding Hardy, Hall, Hart, Gross and Gwynn. OK, no more from me about this stuff. I haven't posted any lineups but just talking about different players certainly isn't slowing down all those kind of posts.
