  1. Well, now we have an extra left-handed pinch hitter on the bench, with the defensive catcher available as emergency.
  2. Kranitz was talking about that with Gallardo, too. Fangraphs, I think, had a blog post about it leading to his CG SO - Kranitz is trying to get these pitchers to attack hitters with their best stuff from the get-go.
  3. I just want to say (instead of studying Tax and/or Copyright) that I missed the first half of my draft and I absolutely crushed the field in my first week of fantasy baseball. Having Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler helped.
  4. That throw was unbelievable! It was perfect! Then Ax gets Ramirez to chase one up around his neck. Great pitch. Get one more.
  5. Good. They're pinch-hitting Almonte for Kotsay. Get something done here.
  6. Jeremy Reed really looked bad. How about Marlon Byrd? He's a marginally-talented hitter that always kills the Brewers. I hate those guys.
  7. It looks like this is one for the bats to take care of. Yo has not been sharp, but he's been fighting his way through it, and hopefully the offense can pick him up. They're clearly able to hit Coleman, who doesn't look very sharp, either. Of course, I think that's because Coleman is a marginal talent rather than having a bad day.
  8. I actually get to watch a game, and Gallardo turns into Jeff Suppan. Outstanding. He'll be lucky to get through four pitching like this.
  9. Gallardo is not looking good. Having Kotsay in left isn't helping, either. He really lollipopped that one in from the outfield. A decent throw gets that runner easily.
  10. Now that I have Gameday Audio, it's really nice to have the game on tv and listen to Uecker. Previously I would have to depend on the *shudder* WGN announcers.
  11. Is it poor form to joke about Starlin Castro being so bad at defense that he got hit in the face with a throw right to him? Because I'm laughing at him. He looked like a slapstick comedy out there.
  12. Unable to follow - checking in, I like what I see. I especially like the video updates on Gameday - on Fielder's 2-RBI double, BA: "Tony Plush will score!" Out-standing.
  13. Some of us are saying that PEDs cast doubt on nine of those similar batter scores (excepting Sheffield, who I believe was long-suspected of juicing). The question isn't if he was a great player; he clearly was. The question is how much was due to banned substances.
  14. Dudes (and by dudes I mean most pitchers) typically struggle with control in the first month of the season. He'll get over it. Soon enough, Randy Wolf will be making perfectly competent starts: 6-7 IP, 2-4 ER, WHIP around 1.2-1.3. He'll be fine. He's never going to be Gallardo, Greinke, or Marcum, but he's a solid pitcher who'll strike out some guys, and you can generally count on him to keep you in games.
  15. I think the multiple positive tests cast serious doubt on his Hall of Fame chances, and imply that he was using for much of his career. Those numbers don't look nearly as good with an asterisk next to them.
  16. I hope they can get the bats moving tonight and keep this winning streak alive. Beating the cubs is very important to me.
  17. Edit: never mind. I figured out the Nasty Factor. For your viewing pleasure: I just purchased gameday audio for the first time, and it's much more enjoyable listening to the Spanish broadcast of Yankees games than that shrill, terrible woman on the Yankees English broadcast, and I barely speak any Spanish.
  18. Ron Roenicke is the better player than Mark Kotsay. This shouldn't be a difficult decision. Kotsay has no place on a major league roster. I fear, though, that since he went 2-2 the other day that Roenicke will start referring to his "veteran experience" and keep putting him in games.
  19. Nice to see the Ax Man get two solid saves in a row. It'll be really nice when batters not named Rickie or Ryan start hitting.
  20. In other news, the Cubs just put 40% of their starting rotation on the DL. Wells and Cashner to the 15-day DL, to be shut down for 10-14 days and then evaluated. I hate to see guys get injured, but this helps the Brewers immensely, and if anyone's going to suffer injuries, it might as well be Chicago.
  21. Our 6-7-8 may actually be better than their 6-7-8 (at least until Freddie Freeman starts to hit like he will). Wow. I'm glad that Heyward is still batting too far down in their order, although I wish he were still sixth. Keep taking at-bats away from your best hitter, Fredi.
  22. Oops - I was wrong about the ninth inning GB. I stand by my statement that Axford looked good, though - other than nibbling in the Heyward at-bat, he did well. It helps that after Heyward he faced 7-8-PH (can somebody explain to me why Atlanta's best hitter is batting sixth?), but that's no given, as Ramon Hernandez proved on Thursday.
  23. If Greinke is so good and worth so many Wins Above Replacement, clearly the stat is useless because Estrada is a replacement, and he got the win! There could have been worse moves made. Estrada's alright - he at least has the ability to not get crushed every time out, and he'll probably only need to make one or two more spot starts until Greinke comes back.
