  1. I think it's a steaming load of crap! Macha better not have his job by Sunday night. I don't get what this is all about. 30 starts? whoop-di-freaking do! Now if only he would have done something during those 30 starts to actually earn that insane contract, like, I don't know, say, pitch well? ARGH!!!!!!
  2. I have the Sheets Bobble commemorating his 264 strikeouts and the Yount and Gantner mini bobbles from a couple of years back. The wife and I are trying to come up with some extra money to pay bills, so PM me with offers. Just know that I live in Texas, and would have to ship it to you.
  3. Right on. According to Dave Ramsey, the first thing is to get $1000 in savings. As you're paying off your debts, when something happens (not if), you use the emergency fund, and then rebuild the $1000. Once you've got all of your debts paid off, then you get 3-6 months of income in savings. Obviously, if you know something is coming up, like being laid off, you adjust accordingly. But it's a matter of planning for things, so that when they do happen, you're not in panic mode and use the plastic. Christmas comes every year. Cars need repair.
  4. Soup for a bag of balls. Literally. GET IT DONE DM!
  5. Done all 3 with my debit card. No problems, and it all came out of the money that I had at the time.
  6. Or Dwight Gooden.....or Darryl Strawberry......or Steve Howe......or......
  7. Just a crazy thought and I don't know if it has been mentioned before, but what about letting Hoffman walk and using Looper as a closer. He's had success as a closer before, and is mediocre as a starter. Package together a combination of Gamel, Hart and Hardy and see if you can get a couple of young pitchers with upside and fill the rotation that way.
  8. Craig Counsell packs the seats! Plain and simple.
  9. The point with grandparents is that in the past, it was acceptable and considered normal to save up to pay for things. To live within your means. Today, you're considered normal if you have 2-3 (or more) credit cards, a loan for a car, and a few other things. You can justify it by saying it's for a good credit rating, but if you don't use credit, then why do you need a good rating? The whole thing that I (and I think many others) have come to is you have to live within your means, and save up for what you can afford. It's very easy to go buy the $1000 flat screen TV because it's the newest, biggest and best, and just throw it on the card. But it means something more, in my estimation, if you save up for it and pay cash for it. I am kicking myself over and over to continue to pay monthly for a computer I got rid of 5 years ago, meals and gas from probably 10 years ago, etc. etc. I don't want that temptation around me.
  10. Never owned a home yet. Still have to get out of the mountain of debt first before we save up for a down payment. But yes, we will take out a loan when we buy a house, then proceed to pay it off as fast as we can.
  11. About 3 weeks ago, I woke up with excruciating pain in my right shoulder. It got a little better with heat and rest, but finally today, it's a whole lot better! I'm hoping that continues!
  12. You do? Why? For a good credit score? Not if you pay for everything with cash either via a debit card, or with literal cash. And that's the point I've been trying to make. Society wants us to have a good credit score. Why do you need a credit score, if you're paying for things that you can afford! I know that's quite old-fashioned, but as Dave Ramsey says, "If you live like no one else, you will live like no one else."
  13. AMEN!!! Do you think our Grandparents and Great-Grandparents would use credit cards? NO WAY! Why? Because there is a value in saving for things. Problem is, our society is now a must have it now, pay for it later way of going about it. I fell into that trap my freshman year of college, and didn't get out of the cycle of using credit cards until about 2 years ago. Now, it's still a process of digging out of it all. Even if you pay off your credit card bill at the end of each month, what happens if you can't pay it off one month? Then you have to pay the interest. Better to pay cash either literally or with a debit card. I have cut up all my cards and closed ALL of my accounts, and once we get out from this hole in the next 2-3 years, we will only be buying things we can afford at the time, using our emergency fund when emergencies happen. Not a credit card.
  14. Exactly! The biggest thing that I've learned from Dave Ramsey is the common sense stuff that the world around us doesn't follow. Save money until you can afford to pay for things. Plan for emergencies, because they WILL happen.
  15. Agreed with the Dave Ramsey advice. Sell stuff you don't use, cut your expenses, take on a 2nd job if you can. Do NOT roll your credit cards into another loan. Take your lowest balance, pay as much as you can extra on that, while still paying minimums on the others. Then roll that over into the next. That's what we're working toward, and hopefully in the next 3 years, we will get rid of about $25,000 in bills, credit cards and loans.
  16. Pay for it. Don't get yourself in debt for any period of time. You never know what may or may not come up after you graduate.
  17. I've got the July dates in Houston on my calendar....if all works well, my little girl will get to see her first Brewer game then!
  18. Here I thought this was updated to say that Macha was fired and Sveum is now the acting manager AGAIN! Major disappointment!
  19. That's the best move of the year! He's the franchise pitcher, so why risk any injuries when these games really don't matter at all?
  20. OK, the comments are pretty funny....granted, I'm not a big fan of planned celebrations, but come on! That's really what you're going to get your undies in a bunch over? Your hero points to the heavens when he hits a homer, and that's OK? Oh wait, it's because it's not planned, right? He just spontaneously thanks God every time he hits a homer? Why doesn't he spontaneously thank God when he hits a single, double, or a triple? Are they not as important?
  21. Internally your choices are Gerut, Hart, Burgeois, Tike Redman, or Corey Patterson. Or sign a FA. But if you do that, you're still looking at potentially a stopgap for another 2-3 years until Cain proves ready, capable and injury free. I'd keep Cam.
  22. That's what has been going through my head. I'm not sure of what his situation was growing up, but I wonder how much he's really had to work for things, and how much he's been able to go on natural ability. Some guys would take stuff like this personally, and then turn around and take it out of the baseball. Kind of a wake-up call. It seems to me that JJ has a very fragile ego, and doesn't really seem all that mentally tough to me.
  23. I don't understand why people are upset with this. I'm ecstatic. Trading Hall for a bag of balls, and sending Hardy down says that the team cares about one thing....performance on the field. Think back to about 8-10 years ago.....JJ would be the starting SS, and Hall would be the starting 3B. Wouldn't matter what they were or weren't doing on the field. And ultimately, performance is what dictates playing time or a job. Not your salary, not because you've got steely blue eyes and the females think you're attractive. If only they would do the same thing with Soup...
  24. Hey, St. Louis took a flyer on Smoltz, who looked to be completely washed up. Some genius pitching coach will look at Soup and think they can make something out of him....
