Doesn't Ramsey recommend you pay off the small balance cards first regardless of interest rate? I thought his reasoning was that it was a mental victory to actually have a card paid off which makes staying on a payment plan easier to maintain. Or something like that.... That's what I've heard he says. He actually lives really close to where I work...I heard he's almost done on a house that is over 15,000 square feet! I personally think ollie's strategy makes more sense though, but I'm sure it all depends on the individual.

Have you received your $8k yet?

I get what you're saying trwi7. You've been against the Bucks moves for awhile and I respect your opinion. I would like to hear an explanation from the Bucks. I honestly don't know if it was really money related...it's not like the Bucks didn't know this was possible (ie him signing a deal for the money he did). They CHOSE to spend that money...so I guess what I'm saying is that they're either not sold on Sessions or worried about him on the same team with Jennings for the next few years. I don't know if those are legit reasons or not, but it was still not played very well. I think the biggest 'miss' may have not been trading Ridnour.

Because nobody can do anything until July 1st. Trades are made before then, correct? They're just not official, right? I believe that's the way it 'works', but I'm not sure to be honest.

I actually hope that Jim and Pam are having a baby. I think it'd add a bit more to the show besides their romance. I'm not a huge fan of their romance, but I do think that's because Dwight's character has hurt due to his breakup with Angela. I think if Jim and Pam have a baby and Dwight is involved in some romance that would be fine...something also tells me that Dwight having a child at the same time with Angela right now would be hilarious.

I still think Hammond will be fine, but obviously losing CV and Sessions for nothing is not ideal. I know it stinks, but I also think the system is bad in the NBA as well. It's the only league (among the major three) that restricted free agents mean nothing (if you consider arbitration as a way to receive compensation). I just don't get that. I know during the season some moves may have been botched, but I don't understand why they didn't try to deal Sessions on draft night or something like that. Once Jennings was drafted I'd imagine the sign and trade possibilities were somewhat limited since it didn't appear the Bucks were going to go into the season with more than 3 point guards.

Hardy isn't an average 3B though. He would be like 12th and isn't even close to the top guys. Thats why he doesn't have value. He isn't among the Zimmermans, he's among the Mark DeRosa's. Why doesmove Hall and not Hardy? Because Hall played other positions, Hardy hasn't. Again, it depends what indicators you use to determine where he ranks. Your indicator might not be the way everyone else views him. You do raise a point that nobody knows for sure...can he play 3B? We don't know. I personally feel it would be a really good idea to give him some starts at 3B in AAA and see what happens, but that would mean they'd have to call up Gamel now...that's not going to happen. Do you think it'd hurt his value if he played some 3B? I'm not saying start him everyday there...maybe once or twice. I don't think JJ has any leverage at this point and time to refuse to play 3B. He needs to focus on getting his career back on track.

Flags fly forever, and Lidge isn't looking dependable enough to be a contributor to a champion. It all depends on how motivated the Phillies are to go for that ring when they are so close. What would it take for the Brewers to make the deal though? I know 'flags fly forever', but if the Phillies have already given up a lot this year in one major trade. I don't see how any team right now gives up more than what losing a type A brings in (if that happens...I have my doubts about it). Again, how often has that happened? My gut says not often so it would boil down to the Brewers taking back lower prospects. I still think there's no way the Brewers get back top 5 or maybe even one top 10 prospect for Hoffman. It just doesn't make sense IMO. If a team or teams were that hot on Hoffman he most likely would've been dealt last month...or at least I hope he would've been.
-
And that's all distinctly mediocre even ignoring that Hardy's OPS is SLG dominated. That's your opinion though. That doesn't make it a fact. Posters have posted some numbers that show exactly why JJ has/had value at 3B...his value cleary wasn't zero or nothing. I really respect your posts, but sometimes it just seems they're facts and I guess I just don't agree with them all the time. 3B isn't a huge offensive production positions for some teams right now. I know I'm a bit behind the defensive metrics, but some here have stated that defense is becoming more and more important in terms of value...if offensive value is lower at 3B (guessing here to be honest) is that because defense is more of a priority? I'm just throwing that out there for those that know much, much more about that than I do.

I guess the thing I'm missing here is why would anyone give up top prospects for Hoffman? It's not a knock on him, but at this point in the season I don't think he'll bring in a top 5 prospect. I know he's a Type A, but I guess I don't put a ton of weight in that since the draft picks aren't guaranteed. It's been stated that Trevor likes Milwaukee and chances are the Brewers will still be somewhat relevant next year...in other words I see it this way: - The Brewers feel if they offer Trevor arby he'll accept...that's not a bad thing - The Brewers are weighing what player(s) they could receive right now...and not really thinking of him as a Type A I might be missing the boat completely here and if I am I apologize. I just don't recall a lot of top prospects being traded in August deals...again I apologize if I'm off on this. I now it's not rumored or anything like that, but a guy like Counsell would be an ideal August trade. Not a guy like Hoffman if that makes sense. I won't be upset if we get some sweet players, but I just don't see it...the Phillies do have major issues though.

A guy I work with is in a co-op and gets his milk, eggs, and random vegetables from Amish farm. He's all about the way the cows are fed. I haven't tried the milk at all, but I have bought some eggs and vegetables from him and I must say it's a huge difference from the store. They are lot cheaper and IMO a lot better tasting.

The Real Casey McGehee?
JJHardy7 replied to TwinsBrewersWorldSeries's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
To debate myself, Gamel has come back nicely since his terrible July. I would probably still have Gamel open '10, but have Casey right there for protection and to set him up for success. He has come back. I was going to comment on your original post -- he's been pretty hot the past two weeks or so with an OPS of 1.036. I don't think Gamel has hindered his chance at opening 2010 as the 3B. Since we're more or less out of it, I'd much rather let him start everyday in September and see what he can do. July was a bad month for him, but let's see how he finishes the season before writing him off as the opening day 3B next year. -
I'm not disagreeing, but I'm wondering: why would that be an issue in the Majors but not in the Minors? Nerves, trying to impress, etc. Some Sounds games there might be a few thousand people there...maybe. I think going from that environment to the bigs is a pretty big change. I'm sure he also has to just get a bit more comfortable generally speaking, but I believe the same thing about Huntsville that has been said by Ash could somewhat be said about Nashville.

It seems like young players almost always struggle with their defense a bit when they arrive in the majors...especially infielders. I agree. I think that's because they can't 'slow' that part of the game down themselves. As a hitter, you can step out and try to tell yourself to be patient...as an infielder you really can't do that if you're seeing a lot of action. Escobar is the real deal on defense...he just needs to try and let the game come to him a bit and not press. I've said it before...he's goign to be really, really good. I'm still a bit confused wtih JJ, but it'll be nice going into 2010 with Escobar at SS especially with him seeing MLB action to close this year...now about that Gamel guy...
-
Also, does anyone else find that radio announcers are almost always better than TV announcers? I think part of this is because you can't see the action most likely if your choosing radio (obviously you can choose radio and mute the tv). I think it's easier to 'paint the picture' at times then it is to actually breakdown video that the audience can see. I think it makes mistakes much more obvious in television when you're watching something and the tv guys botch what is going on...on radio you simply wouldn't know at times if something was botched. I also think people expect more entertainment value out of tv than they do radio.

Analysts usually don't get on my nerves. I guess I don't look for them to point out every amazing thing in the realm of the sport...just be somewhat interesting. I really liked Madden and I consider myself more than a 'casual' football fan. He made it entertaining IMO...were you going to learn all the ins and outs of the sport? Would it always make sense? Probably not...but IMO he didn't divert too much from the action on the field. The old ESPN Sunday Night crew was probably my favorite football crew...which goes against the grain a little bit to what people here have said and probably the general viewing public. Most fans here and at LL.net are more than 'casual' fans and I guess I don't expect to find a 'perfect' team. I do though have guys that drive me nuts. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are terrible. The major thing that drives me nuts is when there seems to be a bias and I think that duo is the king of a bias or easily changing their opinions as the game goes on. I'd much rather have 'simple' talk or other non-sense than having Buck or Aikman gushing or bashing a player. I know he's not a favorite, but over the years Aikman threw Favre under the bus numerous times during his years in Green Bay...it was annoying. Aikman would do the same with old Cowboys rivals too. IMO it was a clear bias and it still continues. Aikman just can't call an unbiased game IMO. One thing I think we maybe need to remember is that in baseball the 'home' guys are going to be homers. That just comes with the territory.

When should we sign Fielder long term?
JJHardy7 replied to dayzedcrewfan's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Like CC, Carlos Lee, and CoCo, Melvin has to make a serious reasonable offer to Prince either this winter or next, or both. When he turns it down, Doug will have all the reason he needs for the fans to understand Prince must be traded. At the same time, you don't want it all that public though. Granted most teams probably think the Brewers have no shot, but I don't want to hurt Prince's value in the slightest by publicly declaring we're not signing him long-term and we're going to trade him. -
I can't figure why some on this site think Corporan should be the young catcher to make next year's team should Kendall or Rivera not be returning. If Salome isn't ready for MLB, what do you do? Bump up Lucroy from AA to MLB? I've stated before I thought Carlos would be a nice one-year option to split time with Rivera or another veteran. I think this move means the Brewers are going to have Salome up in the bigs next year or...Kendall will be back. It could be good news...or bad news. Carlos isn't a bad catcher...he's actually pretty solid.

Very well put. Between all of those position players you listed, not swapping from a position of strength like that for any pitching talent until it was too late (now) is proving to be a big mistake. And Melvin's obsession (possibly driven by Mark A.) with always getting back "Major League" players has been part of the downfall as well. It's not necessarily that we didn't have talent to move. It's that we moved talent like LaPorta, Carlos Lee, Nelson Cruz, and others for "rental" players like Sabathia, Cordero, Mench, and Linebrink. Granted, two of those players played very well, but they were all with the team for 1.5 years or much less. You raise some good points. It'd be nice to trade for more minor league guys, but at the same time they may never pan out and it's difficult to find guys that will without giving up a lot...especially if trading for a guy that the team already likes. In other words, DM said Gamel and Escobar wouldn't be traded. I know that wasn't 100% set in stone, but do you think the Brewers would give them up for 'fair' value? What even is 'fair' value for those guys? I guess my point is it's hard to find minor league guys that you can trade for in a 'fair' trade that will pan out. It's more likely that the organization your trading with knows a lot more about the player than other teams. That being said I agree 100% on trading guys when their value is high. It's easier to 'sell' potential on guys than it is to sell a guy's ability after he's been in the bigs a few seasons.

DougJones makes a good point. I think it goes to show that it can be dangerous to become too enamored with prospects, especially your own team's. The burnout rate is just often too high. I would take that top 10 everyday of the week. We'd be very, very, very lucky if our top 10 was that good right now. I also don't think it's being 'enamored' with prospects. The Brewers should know their prospects better than any other team...and trade away players that don't project to be as good as others may think (ie Matt LaPorta). There no doubt is a burnout rate on prospects, but that should really only surprise casual fans. Guys like Escobar and Gamel will be good, but you just can't expect every top 10 prospect to become an all-star. I would definitely say that old top 10 list was much better than what we have now and a bit more 'solid'. That's not to say our top 10 stinks now, but there's more questions than answers IMO right now.

While Butler may turn out, in the context of the Brewers being a contender in 2008 I think the Gross deal was a mistake. Yeah, they still made the playoffs, but who knows if the Brewers post-season fate would have been different if they didn't need to use Sabathia on the last day and could have unleashed a fully rested Sabathia in the playoffs. I'll never understand that move in the context of a contending team nearing the peak of their "success cycle". Making yourself worse in the shortterm isn't a good move in that situation. Fair enough. I just don't know if it's fair to always play the 'what if' card. The Brewers still made the playoffs and may have Butler in the rotation for years. I don't think having Gross would mean the Brewers win the WS or anything like that. Your reasons are fair, but to call it a bad trade isn't fair IMO. Strange trading Gross? Sure, but I don't have anything against the trade. It's funny that some are upset about trading Gross, but at the same time he was trashed at this site a few times by some (I don't think it was by the same posters or anything like that). It's funny how things come full circle at times...

I know I've agreed with most of what the Bucks have done this off-season to a certain extent, but I'm not so sure about this move. I'm probably one of the few that really liked Amir so it stinks to trade him. I guess if he did have a huge year he was going to be a free agent at the end of the season anyways. It'll be interesting to see what type of contract Delfino ends up getting.
