  1. Do any blackout rules apply for this package? Would the games be blacked-out for me if I live in wisconsin? I don't know a ton about blackout details. Yes they do apply. I live in TN and all Reds and Braves games are blacked out. It's not that bad when they're on TV, but when they're not it stinks.
  2. If you're 25, I can't think of a reason to not have 100% in the market. Planning on a 40-45 year bear market is your only hope, and if you feel that way, I think I'd invest in ammo, weapons, and MRE's. Al, I see what you're saying, but being 25 you don't have a ton of money you can 'lose'. The market is crap now and there's no reason most people in their young 20s should invest in it. I personally am 24 and my wife and I save money every month that is just going in CDs. We have good jobs and make a decent amount, but IMO I keep telling myself get xyz saved up in CDs and such before dealing with the market. I have a 401k and I dread seeing my quarter results in the next week or so. I think your point Al is that investing is good and it is, but not having a diversified portfolio could be similar to lighting money on fire. It all depends on the company and the situation. Those that have extra cash laying around would be able to buy stocks at what I hope is close to the bottom level of their prices.
  3. He would often go to bed when I was little listening to the games on the radio, so he was basically my lullabye. He went to bed on the air?
  4. You don't play your #5 WR over your #3 one just because of playoff experience. I see your point, but baseball is a much more 'individual' sport than football is. I'm not saying Suppan should or shouldn't start, but when it's an individual setting like it is on a big time stage some guys may pitch better or worse because of it. I guess I won't be mad if Suppan/Bush/Yo starts game 1 as long as there's logic behind it. The one thing that concerns me about Yo is obviously the fact he hasn't pitched most of the year and now he's our starter in game 1? I guess that doesn't worry me if we know what his real leash is. If Yo only goes say 2 or 3 innings, the Brewers could be screwed. We don't have all the extra pitching and it pretty much forces CC to go deep into the game. CC is a great pitcher don't get me wrong...I just don't know if I want any pitcher taking the mount on short rest with little bullpen help.
  5. 3. A .300 OBP is well below average, as is his OPS of .768. The average RFer hits .348 / .451 / .799. This isn't a direct shot by any means on your post. It just drives me crazy to compare a RF on the Brewers to all the MLB RF. If we are better at other positions, it doesn't matter. You do not put a bat in a position based on stats like these. If you did, Braun would still be at 3b. It's a team game. You do not need a 1B that crushes the ball if other positions take care of that. It just doesn't make any sense to keep bringing this up IMO. Again, this isn't against your post, but it's been brought up a ton of bf.net. I don't care what he does compared to his position...does he fit the team's need? That's what I care about.

  7. Left after the 6th in as tight a playoff race as possible, booed your own players, a career Brewer in potentially his last game in Milwaukee. I don't care how good he was at baseball or how often injured, this attitude is the type of fan that brings the fan base down in status. On TV, I thought he was cheered. I could be wrong, but that's what I thought happened from Brewers fans. I'm posting that I'm glad Ben Sheets "pitched" his last game as a Brewer today and will become some team's multi-million dollar problem/mistake/source of frustration. If that is now obvious to someone like you JJHardy, then hallelujah. It's hardly an opinion of mine that was formed today, just reinforced. Well it's obvious I've been saying don't sign Sheets forever NDOG. What is VERY obvious is the fact you made your post after Sheets screwed up. It's very easy and obvious to do that after it happens. Your post to me was pretty much 'I told you so after the fact' type of deal. Rip on me if you want, but that's what it is. I can't stand Sheets, but I'm not going to make a post like that AFTER the fact. I don't want Sheets back, but you could be a great manager NDOG if you knew what was going to happen before it happened. I vote NDOG for the 2009 manager and I think that's pretty obvious.
  8. Obviously he shouldn't be out there today, so I appreciate the fact that he'll be some other team's problem starting next year. It's great for you to point out the obvious after it's happened.
  9. A crappy game would not be complete without Weeks screwing something up. Weeks is terrible. I don't care about his potential and his one in a million homer last night. He's just not that good.
  10. Oh, BTW, I'm sure it has been discussed, but are we sure he is a sports agent? Give me a break. If you actually read some of the minor league threads you'd clearly know that Josh has the 'ins'. I can't stand it when folks around here question anything and everything without it being on the JS or ESPN. I'd read read the minor league forum a bit more (ie AFL roster that Josh had the 'in'). I don't want to come off as a jerk, but how is agent posting all the time? You make zero sense and I for one would love for Josh to continue posting here. I follow the AA and AAA squads pretty closely and I really appreciate Josh's views on the players. He's an agent so he may be biased on his players, which is fine. I just love his view since I think most sports fans would love to be good agents (gets you into sports and not bad pay if you're good). Mike, where has Josh been wrong before? I'd like to know. Josh, please keep posting what you feel you can here. I appreciate it and from some comments above I'm not alone. I'd also like to give you props for signing Jeffress. I really look forward to your posts about his journey through the system. Any idea where he may start out next year?
  11. Yes, I've been thinking of starting up something on my own and now is probably the time to do it. Does anyone have any good links or tips on how to start a small business? I'd need to read up on things like how to actually regtister a business, how to handle taxes, liability insurance, etc. Anything else I'd need to know that you guys can think of? Also how to get my name out there - I'll put up a website obviously but do you think sending out flyers to local businesses maybe would be the way to go? Thanks for your help/advice! A big worry in my mind would be what type of entity you decide to start. I don't want to get too personal, but are you married? If so, does your wife work? Like most new businesses you will probably lose a bit starting out and depending on how you set up your entity you could deduct all this and possibly get your tax to zero or a refund. Again, I don't want to be too personal, but it's an important piece to the puzzle IMO.
  12. i wonder how quickly that's really going to end. you marry off two main people on the show and that's historically the beginning of the end of a series. maybe this dude will give Pam second thoughts or something. plus since Jim didn't really know about that dude, the friend would have been someone not really needed in the show. the fact that they introduced him at all makes me think he's going to play some important role this season. the show worked fine with the big Jim-Pam question, and i'd think they'd want to keep some sort of question open as long as they can, whether that be a "will the wedding ever happen?" or something like that. This is a true statement from a guy, but we all know girls have guy friends that flirt and such and the girl always claims they're just friends and is clueless that the guy likes her. I'm not saying that will happen here, but that's how some woman function. 'He's just a friend' in a woman's eyes and a guy can easily see that the other guy likes her more than a friend. It will be interesting to see what happens.
  13. McClung has had a long road to where he is now. Tampa flipped him around from starter to closer and of course his major injury. He lost a ton of weight in the off-season and got him self ready for this year. He got flipped around this year and unlike the Tampa situation he stepped up in whatever role he had. Again, I'm not saying Seth is an all-star, but he does have value on this team and I've probably said that too much around here. What is his role next year? I don't think Seth really cares as long as he has a role. Being a closer might not be a bad idea. I think one thing Seth struggles with is control and last night he just flat out went after guys. If he does that on a regular basis, I think Seth would make a pretty good closer. I'd imagine Seth will lose even more weight this year which will increase his velocity a touch and increase his durability/stamina. Here's a link from the JS...McClung didn't lack confidence last night: http://blogs.jsonline.com...clung-is-stepping-up.aspx
  14. Just thought I'd 'bump' this thread since I can't find the McClung thread. I'm not saying or ever said McClung is an all-star or anything, but I've said many times he has the potential to be pretty good. The way he went after hitters tonight was darn impressive. McClung pitched pretty darn well in the biggest game of his life and one of the biggest in Brewers' franchise history. For all the crap he got around here, it's about time he gets his due. I've mentioned times before that I know him a bit, but I think this is an unbiased post. He played a huge role tonight (granted the game is not over, but he did his job and then some). I'm happy we didn't trade him for a prospect or cut him http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. I do not care how well he has pitched over his last 20 IP, I still fervently hope he dies of syphilis. Wow. I think you might be taking some hate out on Mota. That's a terrible thing to post.
  16. That's a real classy thing to do. I've given Gagne as hard of time as anyone, but he's not a bad guy. I hope this helps pack Miller Park tonight.
  17. JJ, you forgot Carlos, unless you see him dealt. I'm thinking that as of now he may be a starter next year. That of course is up in the air based on free agents and trade possibilities.
  18. CC pitched a ton for the Indians too. The Brewers should pitch CC as much as possible. They gave up some big time prospects for him (depending on the PTBNL) and if CC is the best option to pitch he should pitch.
  19. I think across the nation Yost has a decent vibe from teams and players. The Brewers went from crap to in the playoff talk the past few years. On a national scale that's pretty big. I know Yost gets thrown under the bus everytime the team lost, but I don't think it's fair to say he's a horrible manager. I think it's more fair to say he was the guy to get the team back to .500 or so ball, but he wasn't playoff ready. For the record, I think this 'problem' this year starts with DM. The Brewers just flat out don't have that good of team over 162 games. The offense is not set up at all in a way to get on base and that was DM's goal in the off-season. Blame Ned, blame whoever, but this isn't Yost's fault. I think of the three main sports (NFL, NBA, and MLB) a baseball manager/head coach (and I say head coach because those ripping on posters calling a manager a head coach are way off base...it's the same thing. It's just a title change, but maybe some here accept that as a promotion.) has the least amount of impact on the result. It comes to picking the right lineup and bullpen moves. Bullpen moves are difficult, but at the same time it can be a complete crap shoot. I'm not saying Yost deserved his job this year I just think some Brewers' fans have treated him like crap and that may haunt the team this off-season.
  20. I bring Mota back. If we can get him on a one-year deal for his salary this year or less, I'm all for bringing him back. I agree with signing him for just a year. I think the bullpen will be a strength next year if other moves are made. Give me Torres, Dillard, Stetter, Mota, Riske (I think the injury was why he was crappy at times), Shouse, and my surprise success guy -- Bateman -- and I'd take that. Add one or two players there (possibly removing some) and I think that's a pretty decent bullpen at a pretty low cost overall.
  21. How many ABs does Gross get in that scenario? What kind of value is he providing being the 5th OF? How many ABs does he take away from Cameron, Braun and Hart when they were a better player so he could stay fresh? The Brewers at one point had so much trouble with their pitching that they only had a 3 man bench. He'd provide value in case there were injuries and giving guys days off with a LH bat...something this team has lacked since he was gone. Would Gross give the Brewers 10 more wins? Of course not. He may have helped in a few though...more so than the pitcher they got for him. Gross was hated by quite a few here, which is fine. I just think Gross should've stayed or we should have found another LH option. Again, I'm not saying Gross is great or anything. We just needed some more lefties this year and batters that took pitches. Gross is both.
  22. They should've kept Gross. I wasn't overly upset at the time because we were getting a top prospect...who pitched poorly once for the Brewers so far. I've met Gabe a few times and he's a good guy and he is what he is. He gets on base and has a little pop. I don't think I would've made the trade at the time, but I figured the prospect would pay off down the road. Now I have a feeling we may have gave Gabe up for a guy that will never make it to the bigs.
  23. I couldn't find the blue font. It was actually poking fun at the negatism and the shortsightedness of the quoted post from July. The slide hasn't changed anything, I've been negative on Rickie Weeks for the past 3 years I apologize. My bad. I'm just worried that this site is going to be super negative if the Brewers don't get in. If they do get in, this site will be flooding with positive thoughts -- and I look forward to it.
  24. The Cubs cannot play the Brewers in the NLDS. Should the Brewers make it, the Cubs would play the Dodgers. I can promise you they'd rather face the LA Dodgers than the Mets. This is true, but should the Brewers and Cubs advance the Cubs I'd imagine would love to play at Miller Park in the NLCS. They'd have home field and on the road it might be split. Sounds like a winning strategy if you ask me.
  25. You mean our usually classy fans will boo their team? Crazy! I can't get enough of your sarcastic comments! Awesome! You get to rip on posters (and have been publicly complained about), but keep it coming! You know stats no doubt and you bring a ton of knowledge here, but your responses to others is pretty poor. You have a ton of posts, but that's no reason for some of your negative posts here IMO. Especially those that have attacked posters.
