  1. Colby nailed the Indians pick, Pomeranz
  2. Wow Colon off the board to the Royals.
  3. bball123h what's that ribbon all about?
  4. Taillon to the Pirates, good pick for them.
  5. This is an interesting discussion about pitch calling, I had no idea college catchers weren't calling their own pitches. Harper drafted as an OF, the Nats are going to fast track him.
  6. The 40 man roster has nothing to do with minor league assignments. Cody Scarpetta is on the 40 man and pitched for WI last season and is pitching for BC this season, A and A+ respectively. Simply put because real prospects don't spend much in AAA at all anymore, so many people think the pitching in AA is actually better than AAA. The true prospect pitchers are in AA, the guys that throw gas, locate it, and have plus secondary stuff, As BK noted AAA has become more of a storage area for fringe MLB talent, AAA isn't about development anymore. Mike is only 20 years old, he was far and away the best hitter in the Southern League, and the Marlins could use his bat. If he succeeds everyone is happy, if he struggles a bit he gets dropped back to AAA. He's just been that good that he's getting the call straight from AA, I don't think anything more needs to be said.
  7. Well I suppose the Brewers could have kept trotting out the Obermuellers of the world, but I'm pretty sure a free agent pitcher was high on just about everyone's wish list that winter. Melvin took a stab, and like the vast majority of the other clubs who signed pitchers that year, it didn't work out as planned. Or instead of trading 2 impact hitters for a closer and garbage he should have targeted some real pitching... we've been through this before, FA hasn't been Melvin's only option to upgrade the rotation, that's just the option he chose. He chose to continually trade out the crap at the bottom of the rotation instead of addressing the top of the rotation. Milwaukee's pitching situation isn't an accident.
  8. Quotes like this are the reason I've lost faith in Melvin... like FA was his only choice? Instead of signing the best value the Brewers can afford maybe he should just admit to himself that the FA pitching market stinks for a team like Milwaukee. Why spend money just to spend it badly? That's one thing I've never understood, why max out the payroll simply because we can?
  9. With the draft coming later this is shaping up to be a happy news day.
  10. He's certainly pitched his way into promotion, no doubt about that.
  11. Bah I was pretty happy till you put that thought in my head And That.
  12. haha no way I thought it was him, I was way off.
  13. I've always wondered what the beat writes are influenced by, because there certainly seems to be some slanted reporting when it comes to players with talent who have under performed early in their careers like Weeks, Parra, and Gamel. Weeks and Ganel have been at least average, and Parra was absolutely filthy last night until the 6th, the first home run wasn't even a strike, it was low and in, and the second he just got beat on questionable pitch selection by the best hitter in the game. Macha was trying to squeeze another inning out of him and it didn't work, the only difference is that I would have had a pitcher up much earlier given Parra's inconsistent workload.
  14. Good for him, at a high profile program in a power conference. I hope football works out for him.
  15. It doesn't make sense to move the superior prospect to make room at 2B, it makes sense to do it the other way around. So call me crazy but Isom didn't even mention SS in his evaluation.... I do this all the time, if I have a DT who is getting destroyed down inside but I think he could do well over the TE or coming off the edge I don't tell him he's below average at DT, I tell him if he's willing to switch positions to DE he could be a good player. I'm going to make the switch anyway but this way the kid believes it was his decision, there's more buy in this way. Good coaching. Yea I know I'm wrong, I guess we'll see how it turns out.
  16. BA weighs in with a subscriber only mock:
  17. If a player projects to be merely average defensively for a 2B, how does he project defensively at SS? Isom did say that they don't see him as a SS, he just said it in a positive manner about the position switch to 2B, which is good coaching.
  18. AAA really isn't a step up in competition for hitters, it's a step sideways to a different type of pitching. The hitters in AAA are move advanced than AA so the move to AAA is more of a step up for pitchers. I'm fine with players jumping past AAA if they are performing at a very high level and are going to play everyday. I would think that a 1.167 OPS is raking at such a high level that I'd be willing to see if the player can make the jump directly to the majors.
  19. Where's the proof of this? The scenario you present is only true when discussing CY candidate pitching, that certainly isn't part of the discussion in regards to Fielder. The historical evidence to the contrary has been beat to death. I'm somewhat surprised this opinion keeps coming back around when it simply isn't true. To get young pitching you simply need to be in the right place at the right time, as in an organization with some excess pitching has to be willing to trade and be interested in one of your players... or put more simply, it's all about needs matching up. It doesn't matter if you're trading CY candidate pitching, MVP candidate hitting, or prospects for prospects, the needs just have to match up. We obtained Sabathia for 2 hitting prospects and a reliever in A ball {who turned out to be injured). I'll simply say what I've always said, we have to give value to get value, and if Melvin won't part with a hitter who's performing well, none of the rest matters.
  20. So am I the only one confused by this JS story? Are they really going to be making decisions based on one game at a time? My goodness... so out of the off day it's Yo, Wolf, Bush, Narveson, then whom? If it's not Parra I call shenanigans on this whole situation just like spring training. How is Parra going to get a fair shot to sink or swim without a regular rotation slot? On the flip, why bring up Cappy if he's not going to start again? This whole situation has just been bungled beyond belief. Set a damn rotation, let the pitchers get stretched out, and lets see what we get. We can't keep shuffling guys between the rotation and bullpen giving them random starts whenever... how is Peterson going to have to chance to work with Parra for example when he's not in the rotation? There are no side bullpen sessions when your pitching out the pen... I don't get any of this and I'm going to go so far as to call all the decision makers clowns, because this situation is a circus.
  21. Is it wrong that I want to punch him before Manny gets a chance? However since the fight was Brewer related someone should find a blown up picture of tiny Marseco... not that I wish Michael any ill will, but if we're looking to give Manny a confidence boost he's the tiniest dude I can think of. Then again, what if Manny lost? Marseco is also a scrappy, never say die, gamer type, he might win... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  22. Cripes I thought Gennett was Marseco at first... lol
