  1. I have voiced my concern over our bullpen several times on these boards and have been for the most part royally flamed. I do not base my pessimism on a history of pessimism...I'm not like that. I am also not basing it on today or the spring season in general. I am basing it on the individuals histories and lack of success and/or experience. Other than Bott and Adams none of these pitchers has put together a successful major league season. To believe that we can patch together a bunch of hard throwing cast-offs into a pen is naiive. They all have either past injury or command issues or both. I love what Melvin has done with the team but it is clear our bullpen is going to be atrocious. And what is with the talk of showcasing JDLR? Why on earth would we trade a young LH who has actually shown some promise and hasn't had his elbow or shoulder reworked? At least I don't think he has.
  2. I have a feeling that Mr. Melvin is glad he has unlimited minutes right now. Burn them up Doug and get us some relief pitching...somehow, some way.
  3. So you don't want him messing up once every five days, you would prefer he have the chance every day? I still like Santos, ran out of gas last year but I think he will be fine in a starters role.
  4. I really wish we could go a day or two without removing Santos from the rotation. He is gonna make a lotta guys eat crow when the season starts. On the other hand, our bullpen is going to be atrocious. We have nothing in the pen to speak of, nothing. Ok Adams, but otherwise, nothing.
  5. Pittsburgh has announced Oliver Perez as their opening day starter, so Wes Helms will actually start opening day. No big deal, as Branyan is clearly the starter against all RH starters.
  6. My thinking exactly Jopal. We seem to start out well when our minors are playing their minors. But once again our starters are getting whipped and the defense has been shoddy. Looks like Ben is headed for Nashville.
  7. I have many disagreements with your list endaround, but the major one is Miller dropping off a cliff offensively. I'm sorry but to fall from a cliff one has to be at a high level already, and Miller's numbers are nothing to get excited about. What do you expect, 20 HR? The guy might hit 10 if he is lucky and will probably hit .260-270. What would be falling off a cliff? .240? I am in shock and disbelief that you would put the bullpen at #8. Just to end this on a warm and fuzzy note I do agree with #1!!
  8. I stand corrected, but not convinced. Bottallico and Kieschnick have completed successful seasons. I still believe that the bullpen will be the cause of our lack of improvement in wins this year.
  9. I want to once again voice my concern about our bullpen. I just don't see how this group is going to hold up. Not one of our relievers outside of Adams has completed a successful major league season. Not one.
  10. I don't think it would be wise to have Capuano and Davis going on consecutive days, and I think we should let Santos start a couple of regular season games before we send him packing.
  11. Maddux needs to tell him to finish his delivery...he is so slow I had to check to see if my dish was working...I mean he looks awful...needs to speed up delivery and finish his motion...IMHO
  12. The arm action of H is horrible. He looks like he is serving the ball. How about we speed things up a bit...maybe get a little bite on that curve...ugh
  13. Send the message Ned and bench Grieve right now. There is no excuse for not catching that ball.
  14. BA is reporting that Arizona may soon lose the rights to Drew as he is considering enrolling for classes at Florida State. Sounds like a move to press Arizona into his demands, but this is a pretty sad situation. Good news is Arizona is in line for B.J. Upton's brother in next year's draft, I think.
  15. Not a good matchup with the LH against the Brewers tonight...but we will probably get to see the return of Mr. Helms!!!
  16. Think about this...we acquire a new 3B to liven up our pathetic hitting and who does Yost move to accomodate our new hitter....The best hitter on the team!! I stated this earlier but I'm so ticked I can't get over it...NO WAY you move Overbay and have a career strikeout batting after Jenks...aargh...BTW...nice catch Brady.
  17. Does anyone have some stats regarding Maddux to suggest why Grieve is not starting again? I have my theory but many on here yell at me quite vociferously when I point it out so I'll keep quiet. Big mistake putting Jenkins and Branyan back to back....should have Overbay in betweenst them...shame on you Ned.
  18. Um...can we call the 2nd round selection of Josh Murray clearly a mistake now. He is hitting .176 at low A. I remember when they drafted him I couldn't find any info on Baseball America about him. He wasn't listed in the top 100 and we took him in the second round. Don't get me wrong I'm not upset about this as this happens to every organization...but the guy is a bust. On the other hand I can't help but be excited about a guy named Fermaint.
  19. Nedley needed to keep one of those LH bench players for the ninth inning...knowing they have a RH closer and they were not likely to hit Santana...could have used Obermueller early instead of Grieve or Liefer. Another chance to sweep but another fun series for the crew. I love ya Billy Hall but you need to cut down that stroke with 2 strikes...2 of 3 from the twinks...go crew.
  20. I guess next year we'll draft the guy that beat him....I still long for Homer.
  21. Bill--- I suppose I shouldn't be so hard on Grieve, after all he is our second leading hitter...at .257....Yikes. In his last 4 games(see I can select a sample to prove my point too) he is 1 for 10. That is what I meant by STARTING to show his true colors. Maybe he should lead off because he does walk alot. In the end, his slow bat and lousy defense will convince you that he is NOT an everyday player.
  22. This is embarrassing..we are being shut out by Ismael Valdez..his stuff isn't that good but our approach at the plate is worse. We don't seem to have a clue. Does Podsednik ever hit a GB or even a ball to LF anymore? Ben Grieve is starting to show his true colors. Best thing for him to do is not swing, at least then he has a chance to get on.
  23. I was somewhat underwhelmed by Ben as well but I think he might have more movement on his fastball than it appeared. If he can sink it and cut it to go along with a nice curve he could be a number 3 type starter..whatever that means. He did get a lot of ground balls last night and they hit some hard balls..but mostly foul. Like I noted earlier I think Bennett did a lousy job getting him started. Needed to establish curve earlier BEFORE he got in trouble. Ben is going to need to pitch backwards. That being said, a RH with an 88 mph fastball better have impeccable control and nasty breaking stuff...Ben might...too early to tell.
  24. Observations: 1) Ben Grieve is not Red Hot, even if Sutton wants to tell us that every time he bats. 2) Ben Grieve is perhaps the worst outfielder I have ever seen in a Brewer uniform, with all due respect to Dick Davis. 3) Bill Schroeder can't say Hendrickson...he tried it 3 times then gave up. 4) Hendrickson was a victim of his catcher. Bennett called a poor game and should have gotten Hendrickson to establish his curve earlier in the game. He used fastball too much early and should have used the curve to set up what is a less than stunning fastball. 5) I hope Hendrickson's fastball sinks and cuts a lot more than it appears...if not then oh oh. 6) I had been hoping for Chris Nelson in the draft, until last night. We need arms. Strong arms....Edwin Jackson Arms 7) Izturis gave away the suicide..he looked down at least 3 times before the pitch...why did I see it and the Brewers didn't? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif In the short term the trade with Arizona looks great but a trade with the Dodgers for Jackson and Gutierrez would have looked awfully nice in 3-4 years. 9) Bennett can't hit....either 10) We are over .500 and it is June...that is nice.
  25. Craft clearly shares some of the blame here. His provocation does not excuse Bradley's behavior but it certainly does help explain it. I have no problem with the umpires yelling back at the players and managers when conflicts arise, but an umpire should not provoke by starting a conversation with a player, and an umpire should NOT ever chase after a player to keep an argument going. I remember when the Brewers were in the AL and Rich Garcia would actually follow the players and managers after arguments. Garcia would often times go to the dugout looking to stoke the fires. That is just wrong. Bradley is an idiot but when provoked I think we can all predict the outcome. I think Craft wanted to toss Bradley for embarrassing him earlier in the game.
