  1. Well, than doesn't it just go further to show that Jack Z does drafts all-hit/no-defense players? I agree the organization should have moved them all sooner, but the end result is Jack Z drafts a lot of OF. (Again, not that there is anything wrong with that)
  2. My point was that if Byrnes can play CF (And apparently, that isn't really an option), he is a pretty similar player to Cameron. Hence, the extra year wouldn't be that big of a deal. Since he can't play CF - it is moot.
  3. From the Boston Gobe The Braves are pushing hard to land San Diego ace Jake Peavy (Atlanta shortstop Yunel Escobar would have to be included in a deal), but if you're looking for a sleeper for Peavy, a few people are keeping their eye on Milwaukee, which will likely lose CC Sabathia, and possibly the oft-injured Ben Sheets. Milwaukee makes sense, considering the Padres want a shortstop and the Brewers would move J.J. Hardy in the right situation. Peavy has indicated he would prefer to pitch in the National League and can control things with his no-trade clause. He's listing Atlanta, Houston, St. Louis, Los Angeles, and Chicago as preferences, but Milwaukee wouldn't be a hard sell. This hasn't stopped the Yankees from being involved, and it may not stop the Red Sox from making inquiries.
  4. Regarding the contract - Byrnes is signed for around $11 million for the next two seasons. Considering we would then let Cameron walk, we would only be picking up one additional year at $11 million. Considering that Tracy is signed at a reasonable contract for next year with an option for 2010 - it is someone reasonable. However, I admit that I have no knowledge of Byrnes in CF. But I would imagine if he could play a decent CF, he would already be doing it. And frankly, we have no use for a LF or RF.
  5. I really like Jack Z because he does one thing well - and he does it often. Jack Z drafts "all hit/no defense" players very well. If you can find a 30 HR guy every year, you might as well do it. You can always trade them later to fill other holes. (LaPorta) However, you can certainly argue that Jack Z has had very limited success with pitchers and toolsy players. Hence, the Brewers end up as a HR hitting team, with poor defense and troubles with OBP. If you would prefer to build your team like the Twins - Jack Z is not your guy.
  6. Blalock had a .710 OPS on August 10th. He historically has an OPS of .656 against LHP. He has a career OBP of .337. And for all the production, we would have to trade a pretty decent player/prospect. And in the end, Blalock probably ends up in a platoon with Ball Hall at 3rd. Given that, I think I would rather just resign Branyan. Branyan posted a .925 OPS with a .342 OBP. The big question is whether the Brewers plan on using Bill Hall as a platoon player or a bench player. If he goes back to "super sub", we have no need for Counsell - but would need a full-time 3B. If we resign Counsell, then Hall pretty much has to play in at least a platoon as a 3B. To me, Blalock is only slightly better than Branyan - but Branyan won't cost us anything. I would like Tracy, however. Do you think Byrnes value is low enough that they would trade Byrnes and Tracy for next to nothing. Byrnes would have to play CF
  7. If the Brewers hire Showalter they might as well come up with a new slogan: Where the 1982 Brewers meet the Texas Rangers!
  8. Bradley has mentioned that he will retire if he doesn't get a long-term deal that he feels values him accordingly. ($15M+)
  9. Yes. Longoria is an offensive force similar to Braun. But Longoria is a great 3B. Braun is a good OF. You can certainly argue that Braun had a vastly superior rookie season - but he had a ridiculous BABIP.
  10. 2B-Weeks SS-Hardy LF-Braun 1B-Fielder RF-Corey Hart 3B-Branyan/Hall CF-Cameron C-Kendall/Rivera Bench: Counsell, Nelson, Kapler Rotation: Yo Parra McClung Bush Suppan Bullpen: Torres Shouse Stetter Villy Riske Dillard Free Agent. I think it is important for the Brewers to "stay the course". After another year of development for Escobar, Gamel, Salome, Cain, Jeffress. Green etc - the Brewers will have a better idea of where they stand. Trading Weeks, Hall, Hart, Fielder, or Suppan right now would be selling low. (And in some cases paying salary) I see far too many unknowns to make any major changes. (Signing a big money free agent is the last thing I want!)
  11. I love how the Astro's always make that push to respectable - and save everyones' job! To me, they look like they build for an 85 win team and then just hope for the best. I think they might make one big splash (Sheets), but no chance at two. I still say Sheets ends up wearing a Rangers uniform.
  12. What is up with no Brewers playing? They have played 5 games as a team. Salome has played one game. Cain hasn't played yet. And Green has played in 2 games.
  13. I really enjoy reading your first hand accounts - but you always have such a positive spin on everything. Are there any players that played in WV that you didn't like? Or thought were overrated?
  14. I've never forgiven The Offspring for "Pretty Fly for a White Guy"
  15. Kind of an odd topic. Did you expect anyone to say anything other than 3b? Every is immediately jumping on Bill Hall. Unless we eat a ton of his salary, he is ours for the forseeable future. 1. Bring back Branyan on the cheap. Branyan & Hall in a strict platoon will be a pretty average 3B. (And Branyan gives us the LH bat we need) 2. Pray. I don't really see anything else major happening. Escobar and Gamel need to stay in AAA until further notice. Cameron is good enough in CF to keep. Everyone a year older with a rotation of Yovani, Parra, Bush, McClung and Suppan has a chance to compete. Then you enter 2010 with major decisions, when you have a better understanding of where the club is heading. (Regarding Gamel, Escobar, Salome and Jeffress)
  16. Brewer fans need to accept that JJ Hardy is a top flight SS. There were only 4 SS with a higher OPS. (Based on enough at bats) I forgot to mention... JJ has improved his average in each of the past 3 years. JJ has improved his OBP in each of the past 3 years. JJ has improved his SLG in each of the past 3 years.
  17. Yovani Gallardo is really, really good. (Oh, and he is only 22 years old) Sheets' injury makes him much more likely to accept a 1 year deal. (To prove he is healthy) Gallardo, Sheets, Parra, Bush, and Suppan looks like a really good rotation to me.
  18. Nice post Crew07 (The long post) Trading Hardy for pitching makes sense. However, I highly doubt the Brewers are willing to go into the 09 season counting on Escobar at SS. I think Escobar is very likely destined for AAA - with a potential call-up to contribute later in the year. I don't think the Brewers can realistically trade Hardy for pitching prospects based soley on fan reaction. (Can you imagine the "same old Brewers" fan's going crazy) However, if the Brewers fall out of contention next year - Hardy could very well be dealt before the deadline for a prospect at the time. Obviously, Escobar would be called to the big league clubs then. I can't think of any "contending" team that trades MLB all-stars for prospects in the off-season.
  19. I believe when this arguement came up over the winter (And the Brewers were looking at Feliz) we discussed these numbers. I think Feliz saved around 25 runs - while Braun gave up an extra 25 runs. So it was around a 50 run differential. That is HUGE.
  20. I wonder why they would cut back on SRO for the playoffs? Maybe they knew there wouldn't be many no-shows - and there is only SRO for so many people. (Lets face it, most SRO tickets end up sitting in seats that no one is using)
  21. Exactly. If you move Hardy to 3B - you end up with a good 3B. In theory, since Hardy is a great SS - you should be able to trade him for a great 3B. The problem is we need to find a team looking for a great SS and willing to trade a great 3B. (Preferably a LH hitter with good OBP) That isn't an easy combination to find. Alex Gordan from Kansas City would be a great addition - but he is so young, I can't imagine Kansas City looking to move him. Headley from San Diego would also be pretty good - but with Greene as SS, I don't see a need for the Padres.
  22. I was shocked it wasn't over the 45,300 mark that they hit against the Cubs on Sunday as well. Standing room only was 3 deep (at least) every where in the park. And I didn't see any open seats around us. I wish they had announced how many were actually at the game - because it was a lot.
  23. Mine are gone.
  24. I have two tickets together (Row 429 - row 8, good seats - but I can't make it tomorrow) The tickets are in West Bend. If you pick them up tomorrow morning, you can have them for face ($25 each). If you need me to deliver them, it will cost extra - because I don't really want to drive to Milwaukee tomorrow morning. PM if interested. Probably helps to include a phone number. I will check my PM by 8:00 tomorrow - so you might want to let me know if it is OK to call you that early.
  25. How bad is Nelson is the outfield? He would make a lot of sense as our 4th OF. With Cameron, Braun and Hart the 4th OF won't play too much anyways, but Nelson would be a great pinch hitter and could back-up Prince at 1B better than Rivera.
