  1. I'm not sure how well that will work in Milwaukee. But his season has been very interesting thus far. I can't imagine too many people saw this transformation coming. I'd like to hear a few scouts give their opinion on his declining strikeouts and new found love of the ground ball.
  2. Frederickson is back to his old ways. Four walks in 3 innings so far.
  3. That is a pretty dominating performance. You would expect that he might wear out after multiple innings as he had been working out of the bullpen.
  4. Andre Lamontagne isn't young, but considering I had no idea who he was heading into the season...he has made a name for himself. He has a 2.47 ERA between Wisconsin, Brevard County and Huntsville.
  5. It's hard to figure what Scarpetta has to do to earn a promotion. In 5 of his last 7 starts he hasn't given up a run. He's already on the 40 man roster - seems like a perfect candidate to move up the ladder quickly. Jeffress pitches two scoreless innings with 3K for Huntsville. Kentrail Davis is dominating the Midwest League. (.972 OPS) I wonder if they would consider letting him head back up to Brevard County - or if they are just going to let him finish strong in Wisconsin. Frederickson goes 6 IP with 12K and just 2BB. Lintz has also pitched a scoreless innings. Billings has not recorded a hit through 7 innings.
  6. Third round draft choice Tyler Thornburg started for Helena, but only went one inning. He had been going two innings. Hope all is well.
  7. Mat was pretty upset when he was informed last winter that he would be playing winter ball. I'm not sure he would be thrilled to play in the AFL - but then, maybe he'll just be happy to stay in the country.
  8. Gennett now has 35(!) doubles on the season. I would complain about a clear plan for Gamel, but Escobar had a clear plan for his development - and the results have not been stellar. Maybe there is just no good way to develop prospects, they might all mature very differently. Everything I read talks about how the Brewers have no pitchers ready to help the major league team, but right now Jeffress, Rivas, Rogers and Peralta are all having a decent amount of success at Huntsville. All four of them could play a role for the Brewers next year. I wonder if Salome every looks at the players catching in Nashville or Huntsville and ponders what happened...
  9. I thought Heckathorn topped out around 97 MPH, but the is also probably as a relief pitcher instead of a starter.
  10. Other than Sabathia, there was no pitcher I enjoyed going to watch more than Ben Sheets. I always felt something special was about to happen when he pitched. *I miss those days*
  11. Sorry for the confusion. Haudricourt reported that he asked Macha when Hawkins would be activitated. Macha basically said it would likely occur on Saturday. Haudricourt then went on to talk about how the Brewers were probably looking to trade a bullpen arm instead of sending someone down. Since then, apparently, the Brewers decided they couldn't wait and have already activated Hawkins - sending Villanueva down.
  12. Haudricourt was just on 540 AM around 5:20 and said Macha expected Hawkins to be activited on Saturday around 3:00 so the Brewers would have the option of exploring trades until they activited Hawkins. Odd that they seemingly rushed the decision...
  13. Any idea when I can catch it on? I looked ahead on my guide, but didn't see it scheduled.
  14. I really like Cain, but I'm skeptical that he can keep a .382 OBP with limited power. Of course, a .300 OBP would be an improvement over Gomez.
  15. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Lawrie's slash line now stands at .287/.348/.456/.804, and if you adjust for park and luck at minorleaguesplits, it's at .236/.301/.385/.686. I was a little depressed when I saw that.
  16. It is a very odd move. It is also odd that Haudricourt and McCalvy haven't posted any answers. Without any inside information, I'd guess that Haudricourt and/or McCalvy looked into the matter. The Brewers probably told them something off the record, and McCalvy and Haudricourt can't comment on that matter. I highly doubt the Brewers would just dump a player without cause. (All while allowing McCleary to pitch in the organization) Hence, my theory that there is likely a reason that the Brewers would perfer not to address. Has anyone emailed Haudricourt or McCalvy and asked them for any information? Maybe he slept with Melvin's daughter?
  17. Apparently the Brewer's were impressed with his 7.31 ERA against 5th graders.
  18. Not when the Yankees sign all three. Although, it would make for a very exciting draft. Assuming they hit on half of those picks, that would be a great core coming up to pair with our young pitching.
  19. Wade Davis' numbers this year look a lot like Manny Parra. He walks too many (4.5/9), but Manny has a much better K rate. However, he is young, would be under our control for years and would get to move to the NL Central. I could get behind it, but I'm not thrilled.
  20. If I am correct, the Brewers only have around $25 million committed to next season. Hart, Weeks and Fielder will all get very big arbitration raises. Lets say Hart ($7.5), Weeks ($5) and Fielder ($15). That puts the Brewers at $50. It also leaves Coffey, Bush, Counsell, Gerut, Hoffman, Inglett, Gomez and Villanueva on the outside. Obviously, it will cost some to replace to those players. But if we can't sign Prince, can't we go hard after Cliff Lee? We could easily offer him 6 years and $120 million with all the money we are going to be saving with Prince leaving after 2011. I'd much rather sign some high quality pitching, keep Prince, and make one last run at the playoffs. Plus, if Lee stays healthy, the Brewers could compete for the next 5 years with Lee and Yovani.
  21. I am starting to feel better about the Brewers minor league system. I am legitimately excited by Lawrie and Cain. Jeffress looks like he might still prove useful. If Mark Roger's was on another team, I'd want to trade Corey Hart for him. The last few starts for Odorizzi and Peralta were both very good. Can we just forget the whole Arnett & Salome fiasco?
  22. If Estrada is dogging it to get his MLB paycheck, it will only work for this season. No MLB team is going to want to touch him as an AAA pitcher if they think he might pull a stunt like that in the future.
  23. Gennett in danger of losing his streak of doubles at 7 games. Of course, he has a triple - so we will have to forgive him. Edit: Guess Homer beat me to the punch!
  24. Am I the only one who hates the "Gamel had an over .800 OPS in games he started argument"? That is just manipulating a sample size to make your point. I BELIEVE the theory is that with regular playing time, he would have continued to have an over .800 OPS. But even when he did start, it wasn't always regular playing time. He would start a game here and there and then sit for the next few games. He was horrible as a pinch hitter. (.570 OPS) He was horrible as a DH. (.546 OPS) He struck out 54 times in 128 at bats!! Mat will likely have a success major league career. But everyone acts like he is bound for the Hall of Fame. McGehee has outplayed him as a Brewer. Bill Hall was getting starts over him in the hopes that he could revert back to his 2007 form. I think Macha has done a good job of managing playing time - and I don't even like Ken Macha!
