  1. Lawrie wasn't willing to switch positions. The Brewers wanted him to be a catcher. He didn't want to because it would take too long to get to MLB. Besides defense, the biggest knock on Lawrie has been his attitude. I'm not sure if will be a problem, because the same thing could be said for Braun, but to cite his willingness to switch position is just incorrect.
  2. I wonder how Jeremy Jeffress celebrated?
  3. GOOOAAALLL!!! I knew the results. (Hard to avoid at work today) But I've never enjoyed watching a DVR sporting event more than that. I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
  4. The Bucks are responsible for $31 million, but saved $16 million by getting rid of Gadzuric and Bell. So the net effect is that we essentially signed Maggette for 3 years and $15 million. Maggette for 3 years at $15 million >>> Salmons for 3 years at $27 million. I was terrified we would overpay for Salmons. The Bucks do lose financial flexibility for 2011, but I think Hammonds recognizes that top free agents aren't going to sign with Milwaukee. The Bucks need to build through the draft and trades. I trust Skiles to get the best from Maggette. Edit: Stupidity
  5. Bourgeois might have been worth a win or two over Carlos Gomez.
  6. Edmonds has a role as long as the Brewers are trying to claw back into the race. Macha may use him too much, but Gomez has been a huge disappointment for me. Once the Brewers are completely out of the race, they need to give those at bats to Gomez. (And his .280 OBP) The big question is who is the CF in 2011? Gomez? Cain? Someone else? The answer definitely isn't Edmonds.
  7. Every team would put in a waiver claim on Fielder. He would never get to a post season team. So while true, I can't imagine Fielder passing through waivers with another year on his contract.
  8. Last year, in the minors, he struck out every 3 at bats. So far in Nashville he is striking out every 5 at bats. (small sample) That is a huge difference. That said, I'm really glad he is in Nashville getting a chance to play every day. As dreadful as Milwaukee has been, I just don't see any place Mat could help this year. His star is definitely starting to shine a little brighter again...
  9. Jeffress has been stellar as a relief pitcher for Wisconsin. Gamel has started raking at 3B for Nashville. Of course, the problem is the Brewers have no idea what to do with either of them. We have plenty of relief pitchers (althought I am VERY happy that Jeffress went two innings) and we have a quality 3B in Casey McGehee. It would be a tough situation for Mat if he was moved to 1B to take over for Prince when he is traded. I doubt he could ever fill those shoes.
  10. That might be a good thing. Seattle put a ton of value on fielding this off-season, and they are worse than the Brewers.
  11. Could this year get any worse?
  12. Well said. That has bothered me for a while. Why invest millions in players - and not spend the same amount to develop them?
  13. Bad day all around for the Brewers organization. That's another tough loss for the T-Rats. Nice to see Jeffress back in the box scores, even if it is only as a relief pitcher. And I'm starting to believe in Lawrie. I hope he defense follows.
  14. I couldn't agree more. Fielder plays his best when he is carefree. I think the loss of Cameron might have hurt as well. Cameron was a great veteran presence that helped keep the clubhouse worry free through tough times.
  15. Ok, I laughed when you said Gamel's been great - and then pointed out all the things he is good at.
  16. That is one if the thing that has bothered me about this situation, and Lawrie's, the organization hasn't even protected the player with a "we" statement. The organization was clear in both cases that is was the players decision.
  17. Look at it this way, our starting pitching is going to be so bad, we are going to need a lot of bullpen arms!
  18. I hear Escobar isn't comfortable at shortstop anymore and would like to play first base. I understand why they are moving him, but between Lawrie, Salome, Braddock and Jeffress playing lesser positions than hoped - our system has taken some hits.
  19. As X put it for Brent Brewer... Well, I guess if you never quit when the going got tough, you'd have nothing to regret the rest of your life.
  20. Agreed. Great follow. The problem is that I don't need Brewerfan.net as much because of the tweets from battlekow.
  21. Covey is a workhorse and keeps his fastball in the 91-94mph range. He has an MLB ready curve and draws comparisons to Giants pitcher Matt Cain. Showing signs of faith with young pitchers the Brew Crew could have a good one. From Rivals.com I like Covey better than Biddle. The Brewers like good curve balls.
  22. He is clearly drinking a Diet Coke in that picture. That made me laugh.
  23. We have a Salome sighting! He pinch hit for Huntsville. He grounded into a double play. I'm still happy to see him playing again.
  24. I'd just say that Salome has never received much recognition nationally as a prospect. Jeffress was once fairly highly regards on Top 100 lists. It is hard to argue with Salome's minor league success - but I don't know of any national scouts that speak highly of him. I could be wrong, because I have no idea how Jeffress spent his suspension - but I would imagine he has stayed in top shape and continued his development with or without game experience.
