  1. I am sure 95% of his weight loss is water weight. I would be surprised if he isn't ready for opening day. Once his stomach settles down and he is fully hydrated again - he won't feel nearly as weak.
  2. I've witnessed it first hand. It can be done. But that guy was very big. (And still was not having fun) If you are under 25, there is a very good chance you are an idiot. Someday you will realize this. Don't major in marketing. Get a real degree. (Meaning, in order to do profession "X" - I need a degree in "X")
  3. I don't see our bullpen or starting rotation as a weakness. Therefore, I wouldn't trade our starting 2B (creating a hole at 2B) to improve upon a situation that doesn't require improving.
  4. I think you may be over reading this article. It sounds to me like sloppy reporting, not malicious. I saw a few reports about Baldelli simply listing his DL trip as "exhaustion" - which is certainly curious since, as the writer points out, Baldelli never plays. I bet Hench isn't even aware that Baldelli's "exhaustion" is actually a much more serious illness that could be potentially life threatening and is certainly career threatening.
  5. Whoa. Escobar bandwagon is in full force today. Escobar has never even played AAA. He is a defensive whiz - but has significant room to grow offensively. I am pretty confident that Counsell could out play him this year. However, even ignoring Escobar's youth and Counsell's experience - why in the world would you want to start Escobar's arbitration clock running? He needs a full season at AAA yet.
  6. Burrell is going to love having Jenkins as a teammate.
  7. I can't believe I almost agree with Briggs. It has been talked about a little in the Escobar Thread in the Minor League Forum... But, if Weeks doesn't "break out" this year - we need to stop talking about his potential. He is a good player - with poor defensive skills. At some point, he needs to live up to his potential. It seems like everyone is willing to give him an unlimited amount of time to justify his immense talents. Everyone points out to his healthy September. While it is very likely his injuries have affected his first few seasons, everyone is so willing to accept September as an example of a fully healthy Weeks. It's just as possible he was on a hot streak. I am willing to give Weeks another year...but after that, I am significantly recalibrating my expectations.
  8. Well said. You have to hand it to Mark A. When he purchased the team, you knew we weren't going to be good. But at least he built excitement about the future. The Bucks are just dead in the water right now. I am completely ready to rebuild. Just don't feed me "playoffs" anymore... Last night, McGlocklin was pretty upset with the Bucks. (Blowing a 14 point lead to Miami) At several points he sounded like he wanted to strangle someone. If you watch any games, it is pretty obvious to me - those players have quit. At least Simmons would entertain me. (And honestly would probably be better than Harris) This has been one of the best NBA season ever - and we have been stuck watching this mess unfold in Wisconsin. Ugh!
  9. I love Derrick Turnbow. He has been one of my favorite players for the past few years. But I honestly wonder how well he has really looked this spring. His spring lines have not looked too impressive. I wonder if the coaching staff is just trying to boost his confidence by saying how well he looks. Torres (very limited), Mota, Riske, Pena and Stetter have all looked really good this spring. The guys we are counting on for the 8th and 9th inning....not so much. That is starting to worry me.
  10. I watched an amazing amount of Mid-Major basketball this year. Drake can really play. They are solid all around - and have the defense to match it. (Often that prevents the smaller schools from really competing with the big boys) Adam Emmenecker is fantastic. He only averages 8 pt, but is probably the best player in the conference. Davidson has a chance to really do some damage. I love watching this team. They have Dell Curry's kid - Stephen Curry, who can shoot the lights out. However, they got such a bad seed it is a crime. They are the 23 ranked team in the nation! They should have gotten a 6 seed. Marquette is ranked lower (and much more inconsistent) and got a 6th seed. Davidson has won 22 in a row - all by a wide margin. They lost to UNC by 4 and Duke by 6. Their point guard, Jason Richards, makes them go. If Richards and Curry are on - watch out! (I am not sure how they could possibly stop Hibbert from G-Town) Gonzaga is incredibly deep. But the top line talent isn't really there. I watched 11 of their games this year. The problem is they have no real inside game. Heytvelt has been very inconsistent - and prefers playing facing the basket. Austin Day will be a stud someday, but he has work to do. Kuso is muscle inside, but can only dunk. Bouldin & Pargo are really the keys. Pargo has some beautiful spin moves in the lane - but when he is off, the whole team really suffers. (Pargo can take over games at times) I also caught around 5 St. Mary's games. They are going to beat Miami. Patty Mills (point guard) is a freshman from Australia. He is a good one. I watched Diamon Simpson just destroy a few opponents. They also have a big guy (Samhan) who is pretty good at doing the dirty work inside - but has dislocated his shoulder a few times during the season.
  11. Really - they got Bud Black in the game this year? He was a former player, who was out of the MLB players union (I believe)- so I know in years past they were not allowed to use his name in the game. (Similar to Bonds and Damian Miller) Last year I was the manager. I wasn't sure if I made the cut this year. Thanks for checking. I didn't want to buy the game just to check if I was still in it.
  12. I doubt it. I don't believe Pena will make the 25 man roster - so the replacement will have to be one of the pitcher who does make the club. (Unless they put Gagne on the DL and call up Pena. But I would imagine Mota or Torres would be in line for the closer role)
  13. Conversely, the pitchers can also call for an extra batter during an inning if any inning goes to quickly.
  14. Can someone who has this game do me a favor - Who is listed as the Head Coach for the San Diego Padres?
  15. I would just like to say - since it seems lot of people ignore this - Parra is so valuable that he should not be in the opening day rotation. I would rather see him pitching for the Brewers in September & October than have to shut him down at the end of August because he has reached his innings limit. I don't think anyone honestly believes Parra needs more AAA seasoning. The question is how to make the most use of the innings he is able to pitch.
  16. A lot of people were pretty upset about the acquisition of Mota for Estrada. (Most perfering to just outright dump Estrada) But I think I only saw one post that didn't include Mota in our pen. I wonder how many people have just come around on Mota needing a change of scenery - or whether it has been his success this spring.
  17. That is certainly a possibility. But how often are playing not trying to hit HRs? I know pitchers in spring training often work on different pitches - and usually don't bust out all of their breaking pitches until a few weeks in. But for the most part, hitters are trying to hit. Obviously they work on adjustments (Such as Week's seeing more pitches), but I don't think it is nearly as pronounced as pitching statistics in spring training.
  18. On U-Verse it is listed on the guide for FSN...but not for FSNHD. So I would assume this game isn't in HD.
  19. Wow. The Gehl Club too yet. Count me in! (My wife would love you forever.)
  20. I was wondering when someone was going to point that out. I am aware that as a team, that is a small sample. However, when you combine everyones small samples (30 AB) or so, the potential for relevant information increases. The fact that Prince hasn't hit a HR in 30 AB can easily be a statistical anomoly. But when one player slumps - another player with 30 AB, is likely to be streaking. The fact that one player is struggling is nothing to get worried about. Players will go through peaks and valleys. But we have 4 or 5 players who aren't hitting home runs right now. That certainly becomes more statistically significant. By the way, has anyone ever actually does extensive regression analysis on spring training stats? Surely there must be some correlation between spring training success and regular season success. That would make for a great article.
  21. My last bullpen slot was between Stetter & Pena. I went with Stetter for the LHP. But there is a pretty good chance Pena sees quite a bit of time with the Brewers if anyone falters. (By the way, glad to see McClung hasn't made anyones list - yet)
  22. That was one of the things that got me too. I didn't realize it at first...but Suppan almost didn't make my cut. Like I said, only his bat and playoff experience gave him the edge over the other options. The funny thing is, he played exactly as well as could reasonably be hoped for last year. The Brewers have come a long way.
  23. Narveson had another good outing. I know everyone harps on his sample size. (Which is certainly an apt criticism) But aren't 12 innings against MLB players a better indication than 50 innings against AAA players? (I am obviously aware that some of his opponents have started AAA players - but he faced a Oakland team that was almost exclusively starters) Either way, he certainly seems like he is going to help Nashville.
  24. That is why I included the names. Our "scrubs" are the ones hitting the home runs. Gross has 2. Gwynn has 1. Dillon has 2. Nelson has 1. Rottino has 1. And Gillespie has 1. That is 8 of our HR. Our entire starting line-up (counting Cameron) only has 7. I am just saying...it is become a prolonged power slump for several players.
