  1. After some research on the subject, I can verify that I am an idiot. D'oh!
  2. For what it is worth... In April and May everyone would have said the strength of our team is the bullpen. Wise was good. Turnbow and Coco were golden. It just goes to show that as a team goes through hot and cold streaks so does the bullpen. (Of course, everything since then has been one big cold streak) But the point is that it isn't neccessarily the guys you have out there - but rather how well they are currently pitching. If we don't make any huge moves in the offseason, it doesn't mean our pen will be horrible. Maybe Wise puts it all together and becomes very reliable like he once was. Shouse fills his role very nicely. I think Bush is likely heading for the pen. (He always seemed like a two pitch pitcher to me) Bush might even end up as a closer. Personally, I think part of the problem is we have too many high righ/high reward type players. Turnbow, Aquino and McClung all have the potential to look lights out - as well as give up 5 runs in one inning. When you trot more than one of them out during a game, you are greatly increasing the chances of imploding. I would like to see a few more "stable" pitchers who you know can throw strikes. But as was discussed in an earlier thread, throwing money at the bullpen usually ends up very badly.
  3. Just seems like everyone is forgetting the fact... We were down one run entering the 8th. We didn't score in the 8th or the 9th. (or come close for that matter) Turnbow imploded. Throwing at Pujols was pretty dumb. But we would have lost that game anyways.
  4. Just venting about the "People with more control that Turnbow" thread getting locked. It was a vent. But that was pretty funny too.
  5. With the Spygate stuff going on in the NFL, isn't it funny the amount of "cheating" that gets brushed under the carpet in MLB. I would imagine that statement is accurate. Assuming that, it is in complete violation of the rules. How has Sveum been with his defensive positionings? I know our defense his horrible, but most of that seems to be the defensive ability of the players and not their positioning. Of course, watching on TV you aren't always able to see where they started the play to see how the positioning affect their play.
  6. I will be the first to admit - I am not entirely sure what the role of the bench coach is. It seems as though the past two years we have just been using this position to rotate old Brewer favorites through town. First Yount and then Sveum. What does a Bench Coach do? However, I do know that Sveum was widely considered a failure as a 3B coach in Boston. And since then he has been promoted to a Bench Coach with the Brewers. With Ned getting thrown out on a nightly basis, Sveum's role with the team has been in focus. How do you feel about the job Sveum does a bench coach? I hated hiring him from day one - I am just sick of recycling the old Brewers teams. I would imagine most are upset at how he handled the bullpen in tonights game, but I am looking at the entire season. Assuming Ned keeps his job - will there be coaching turnover? Who would be the most likely to go?
  7. Yost has his flaws. But I certainly don't want to see Dusty Baker come here next year either. There is something to be said for having a plan and sticking with it. Our organization has certainly been more stable than in the past. Ned isn't a great manager. But he isn't as bad as some have made him out to be either. I just hope he coaches next year like he has this past month. (Playing to win every game instead of sticking with the "battlers") While I still disagree with his bullpen management of late - I have enjoyed his general attitude more this past month.
  8. Just go mine via FedEx as well. Suppose they are worth anything as collectors items?
  9. What is "reliable" though? I like imports because they seems to last the longest (over 150K miles). I had a Toyota Corolla that just would not die. A lot of the new measurements regarding quality and reliability is in regards to the defect in the first 10,000 miles or something like that. I know in that regard, Chevy and Ford are right up towards the top with all of the imports. But that doesn't mean they will last the longest. And frankly, I don't care too much about defects within the first so many miles - because it is under warranty at that point. I was it to be reliable when the warranty has expired. In regards to the push pull or drag sales they are overrated. Do you honestly think I can take an old beater worth about $50 and get $5000 worth of value for it? All of the cars are marked up accordingly to adjust for the trade in value. Whether you trade in a car or not - the dealer would be willing to give you the discount if you negotiated. Once you trade in, then you are pretty much at the set price.
  10. That idea sounds good - but does that ever actually pan out? Usually when a team decides to "fix" their bullpen issues they throw money at very average players and suddenly Danys Baez has a 3 yr 19 million dollar contract. Or you can trade away half your team for a Gary Majewski. I think fixing the bullpen can actually be one of the hardest tasks for a GM. The best bullpens almost all come from young players within the organization. Just take a look at Joba and Papelbon...
  11. I think we already have that right handed bat...Joe Dillon. I think Hall starts in CF (And rebounds from this year. Although not 35 HR - more like 23) Hart in LF and Gross in RF while platooning with Dillon. Dillon starts in RF against LHP and also backs up Weeks, Braun, and Prince. Counsell can obviously back up Weeks, Hardy and Braun for defensive purposes. Only 18 at bats this year - but Joe is has on OPS of 1.378 against LHP. He cost $400,000 next year versus $4,000,000 for Mench. I believe Dillon will play a very big role in what we do next year. With his versitility, he has a realistic shot to get 350 - 400 at bats. As mentioned that frees up 11 million from Jenks and Mench. We can use that to upgrade our bullpen, catcher - or keep to use on our young players to help ensure they stick around Milwaukee. I would trade TGJ for a ham sandwich. A singles slap hitter who strikes out too much....those aren't very valuable. As far as I am concerned, he has no value other than a defensive replacement/pinch runner.
  12. Selling a gold coin is about as easy as heading to the bank. Any coin/gold shop will buy it from you. I know in West Bend we have two on Main Street. An ounce of gold is going for around $736 right now. The coin is worth a little more - cost of the minting and distrubuting. But I would imagine you would have no problem getting at least $700 for it. Ebay is always an option too.
  13. Sheets won't go anywhere. Unless we are going to trade one over paid injury prone pitcher for another. (Is Prior available?) The only trades that would make any sense would involve Sheets going to a team with World Series dreams willing to part with a prospect or two. Hence, you suggested the Yankees. Problem is - the Brewers are a team with World Series dreams. We can't keep trading for the future. The future is now. Next year, while we still have Sheets - is probably our best chance to win the world series before we start to lose some of our young talent. Of course, it is unfortunate to have those hopes riding on the health of Sheets. But it is what it is.
  14. I have to admit...I am just giddy again about this team. I have tickets to the last game of the season and am so excited. I really hope our boys can find away to get into the playoffs and extend baseball in Milwaukee into October. But even if they fall short, I look forward to giving a nice ovation thanking our boys for a great season. It's been a long time since I cared about the Brewers on September 18th. Win or Lose - it has been a helluva fun season.
  15. He needs an agent to tell him to shut up.
  16. Correct me if I am wrong... But since Cordero and Linebrink are both Type A Free Agents - when we lose them we will get two draft choices for each. One pick from the team that signs them - and then a sandwich pick between the first and second round which is awarded from MLB. So wouldn't we be better off NOT signing them, taking our two picks - and then signing someone elses Type A Free Agent? That way we would get two picks for losing Cordero - but only give up one to sign another player of his quality...
  17. Add me to the "Why is Corey Hart wearing a fireman suit?" crowd.... I thought that was about to be an amazing picture of you somehow wearing a fireman suit standing next to Corey Hart!
  18. The fact that people actually think these things only further proves my gradual slide away from "coolness"
  19. First off - this thread has gotten WAY off topic. But I will join in anyways. I don't see any reason they will try to extend Hardy this year yet - he just had a career year. I doubt he will hit around 25 HR next year. I doubt he will be an all star next year. And this has been his only full season healthy so far. Just seems like we might as well let him play out awhile longer until we reward him with a big contract. As for Dunn - Cincy will pick up his option. But they can trade him then can't they? I could very well see them picking up the option only to trade him. He would be decent as a one year solution, but I would never sign him long term. WAY to much money for a guy with his skills. Lastly, regarding the fact that adding him will give us another butcher defensively on the left side - reports are Laporta is going to be pretty bad as well. But boy will our team him home runs!

  21. Agreed. He has been adequate at the leadoff spot - but nothing earth shattering. He still isn't hitting the ball very well. Seems like every at bat for him is a K or a BB. But at least he is getting on base somehow. Having him lead off and Hart moved down in the order really helps.
  22. See if I can get this too work.... http://images.yuku.com/image/gif/63c356229a53886207e99268edeb5d77fd549c0_t.gif Anyone who poses for his picture like this - I want hit with a fastball.
  23. Cabrera - guy just looks like a punk
