  1. I can't see him slipping that much, but I get the point, even if he repeats his 2008, it'll diminish his value. FWIW, through each of their first 4 seasons, Fielder and Teixeira seem to be very similar in terms of value. Here is their WAR over that time. Fielder 2006 - 1.5 2007 - 5.1 2008 - 2.8 2009 - 6.8 Total - 16.2 Teixeira 2003 - 2.1 2004 - 4.4 2005 - 5.9 2006 - 3.4 Total - 15.8 In 2007, Teixeira had a 4.1 WAR. Prince would need to do a little better than his 2008 season to keep in line with Teixeira and still truly deserve a $200+ Million contract.
  2. Here are the two Mark Teixeira trades from Baseball Reference July 31, 2007: Traded by the Texas Rangers with Ron Mahay to the Atlanta Braves for Beau Jones (minors), Elvis Andrus, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. July 29, 2008: Traded by the Atlanta Braves to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for Steve Marek (minors) and Casey Kotchman. Depending on when we would trade Fielder has a large impact on what you can expect to get. If we traded Prince this year, we can expect a large return.
  3. If you let him play out his arby years as he's hitting .300 with 25 home runs, he's going to increase his value a ton. Rickie only has one more Arbitration year in 2011.
  4. If anyone is moving positions, it should be Salome. Hasn't Lucroy showed to be at least average behind home plate?
  5. At this point, its hard to say any of the 4 OFs other than Braun are better than any of the others. (this includes defense) I'm not going to complain about one getting more playing time over the others, unless one of them starts sucking it up.
  6. I think that Rickie is really the guy we need to pursue, not Prince. I think we are going to get a lot more bang for our buck going after a future with Weeks rather than Fielder.
  7. Didn't that happen with Derrick Lee a few years ago? He was suspended for two games but was hurt and wouldn't have played anyway. Kind of a sucky way to skirt the rule. I think this was said earlier in this thread, but Suspensions are meant to hurt the player, not the team. The player loses money by being suspended.
  8. If the team doesn't make the playoffs this year, you could see some kind of blockbuster deal with Prince that will significantly change the team. Maybe something like Prince/Parra or Villy + for a handful of players. Prince/Parra/Villy/Weeks for Evan Longoria and Jeremy Hellickson? A guy can dream can't he?
  9. But virtually every team makes moves each year that turn out well. And every team makes moves each year that turn out poorly.
  10. If these two weeks of baseball happened in mid to late July, people would be mildly upset but it would pretty much go unnoticed. We need to try to be less reactionary, give the players a chance to show what they can do before jumping all over them.
  11. Macha must be reading BF.net. Maybe he'll pick up a few other pointers...
  12. Atlanta should celebrate because its their team. Milwaukee should celebrate because its their city. I see no reason why both cannot celebrate for it.
  13. I find it ridiculous that a team "claims" all the events and players from a franchise when they resided in another city. Hammerin' Hanks time as a Brave in Milwaukee should proudly be claimed by Milwaukee. Brewers or Braves, who cares. It happened here. Like the '57 WS victory. I'm confused by what you are trying to say here... that it doesn't matter what jersey he had on, only the city he played in? That would kind of defeat the purpose of celebrating 40 years of Brewers baseball in Milwaukee.
  14. Well, no one will see him anytime soon... 15 day DL http://www.chron.com/disp...l/sports/bb/6948527.html
  15. I don't think I'm saying anything that hasn't been said before in this long long long thread... but here are my two cents. Can Suppan go out there and put up average numbers and keep the Brewers in a game? Yes. Can Suppan go out there and completely shut a team down? In my opinion, no. Can Suppan go out there and get rocked for 7 runs in 2 innings? Yes. Now if I ask the same three questions about Narvy and Parra, I get the same answer on questions 1 and 3, but not question 2. Narvy and Parra have the skill to go out there and completely baffle a team. Suppan just doesn't have that anymore. Over a year of starts, all three conceivable could have very similar ERAs, however, I just don't see Suppan "winning" the Brewers any games. Parra and Narveson could win one or two or more.
  16. To summarize my thoughts and what others have said... I think its something to watch for, but nothing to be too worried about at this point. It was his first regular season game with a new team in front of new fans in a new park. I'm sure there were some nerves involved. And like said above, really only one of the 4 should have been stopped, 2 were nearly impossible to stop, and 1 could have been stopped but it would have been a heck of a play.
  17. I guess I'm very surprised to hear this sort of talk from anyone. CC risked a lot while playing for the Brewers. I can't count how many times he went out on short rest and pitched deep into ball games. Sure he wasn't here long, but he is a Brewer to me.
  18. If the theme were Great Brewer players, I may have a problem with it. But it is my understanding that it is Great Brewer moments, in which case its totally acceptable and accurate.
  19. Come on guys... The Brewers are trying to honor the memories of the last 40 years by commemorating one moment in each of the 4 decades of Brewers baseball. What moment stands out more in the 2000s than CC closing out the last game of the year in 2008?
  20. Yep, in September I believe. Edit: I lied... August 29thhttp://milwaukee.brewers....ions.jsp?c_id=mil&y=2010
  21. I'm a little bit confused. If he accumulates the points, does that mean the option is automatically picked up, or does void the option mean he can become a free agent? If it is in the contract, it means that he could potentially void the club option and allow him to enter FA in 2015. If he performs well enough to earn "6 points" then he would obviously be worth more than $13 million at that point.
  22. In 10-20 years from now, we will all remember how great CC was for our team and how essential he was for that season. Sure, over the course of multiple seasons, Braun and Prince have done more, but no one has effect the club in as short of a time period as CC Sabathia. I have no problem recognizing him on the calendar. Also, I'm pretty sure those are the 4 bobble heads that are being given out this season, so it matches the other promotions.
  23. This is an interesting clause from the AP. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5067405 Gallardo could void the option if he accumulates six points under a system in which he earns five points for winning a Cy Young Award, three points for finishing second in voting and one point for finishing third. I for one really hopes he accumulates 6 points. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. Just for a picture, if Yo's contract is .5, 3.25, 5.5, 7.75, 11.25, and 13 million, and Prince were to accept a 5 year, $100 Million contract. This is about how much the Brewers would owe these three players through 2015. 2010 - $12, 287,500 2011 - $27,538,000 2012 - $31,788,000 2013 - $36,538,000 2014 - $41,538,000 2015 - $45,288,000
