    Weeks OPS+ in his career. 2005 - 90 in 414 PAs 2006 - 96 in 413 PAs 2007 - 108 in 506 PAs 2008 - 96 in 560 PAs 2009 - 125 in 162 PAs 2010 - 123 in 754 PAs 2011 - 121 in 515 PAs 2012 - 93 in 677 PAs (2nd half was well above average after a very poor start) 2013 - 54 in 75 PAs Unless you really think Weeks has fallen off the cliff, you just let him ride it out. To DFA him is utterly foolish. For everyone that are so worried about his strike out total, in what was probably his best season (2010), he had 184 Ks. Yes, he is on pace to have more this season than in 2010, but that would be making the assumption that he won't start to see the ball a bit better. Give him another month or so before you start taking away his playing time on a regular basis.

    Can you explain why he should be? I think he should be batting 2nd if you want to go by the letter of the law of lineup construction.

    Its been 3 weeks of baseball. Our best two choices for clean up are both hurt. Lineup construction matters very little to number of runs scored. Sure, you could rest him for a day or two, but whether he bats 4th or 8th, he needs to be in the lineup to work out his issues. We need Weeks to be contributing to the offense for this team to be successful.

    You can fully disagree with his actions without thinking he has a problem with alcohol or that he is inherently bad. He made a mistake and was lucky to not kill himself or anyone else. It happened and he has to move on with this mistake. He has paid for it already and there isn't much more that being mad at him for it will do.

    I don't think anyone thinks that drinking and driving is no big deal, but things happen. Being a professional athlete doesn't make a person infallible. He made a mistake, he is going to pay a fine and will lose a lot of credibility in the court of public opinion. That's the punishment that has been deemed worthy by the state of Wisconsin. It doesn't mean he has a problem with alcohol and it doesn't mean he's a bad person. Now, if he doesn't learn from this mistake and continues to get behind the wheel when impaired, then he does have a problem and should go to jail, but to condemn him for this one act is wrong.

    Casey McGehee is a classic example of why players like Braun sign long term deals at less money. Casey lost a ton of money by taking a chance.

    But WAR isn't an average stat over a season, its a cumulative stat. His wins added over 139 games was greater than Cabrera's over 161.

    Last time I checked, wins in June and July count the same as wins in August and September.

    As an act of good faith, I believe the Brewers should offer him some sort of incentive based bonus to get him back those 2 million. You have to keep your core players happy.

    "Whoever bats in front of Braun is likely to get thrown a fairly high percentage of strikes." Is the fact of fan fiction? I know the theory of protection is pretty much false, but I am unsure on actual strike percentage.

    Yes, his walk rate is low. But most of his career has been in the 8 spot, where you need to be more aggressive at the plate with the pitchers spot behind you. Lucroy is a very good hitter, and would adjust to the 2 spot. I have no doubt he would realize with Braun behind him, he needs to take more walks. He has 26 walks in 497 PAs when batting somewhere in the order other than 8th. That is a BB% of 5.2%. That's what I heard last year when McGehee was struggling. Turned out the trend was a much better indicator than career numbers. McGehee never showed any signs of being a productive player in the minors. He came up to the Majors and had a great season or two that was unexpected. Weeks has much more talent and much better tools and has been a plus performer for longer than McGehee (3 straight seasons of an OPS+ over 120 for Weeks. Yes one of those seasons was cut very short due to an injury). I will always assume a player is likely to perform closer to career numbers than over any individual 20 games. On top of all this, I'm sure someone on this site could find an article stating that batting order has very little effect on runs scored by a team. If we want to start talking about the ideal batting order, let's start with the pitcher batting 8th and someone like Weeks/Lucroy/Segura batting 9th.

    Thanks TLB. All I'm saying is that making it to .500 means absolutely nothing. We aren't going to make the playoffs at .500 and that's really all that matters. If you ain't 1st, you're last! (Er.... If you ain't 5th or better in a league you are last...) I want us to play all of our younger guys and I want them to play their best and win as many games as possible because that means they should have a chance of performing well next year and it gives DM an idea of the holes that are still needed to be filled.

    I'm not saying try to lose, if they win, that's great. My point is that you don't always need to put in your best lineup or pull pitchers for relievers. Put guys in situations that you are trying to evaluate how they perform. This is the time to start figuring out next year's team. Each win hurts the team by worsening our draft position.

    100% Evaluation of talent. While I am not against winning at this point, each win only hurts the team from here on out so there is no reason to play for wins.

    I do appreciate anyone taking the time to put together a list like this. I think you are going to get a lot of push back from this community on Davis since he is just performing like no other at this point. If his bat continues to be as good as it has been, I would take him as a below average RF, however, before I would do that, I would move Braun to RF and put Davis in LF.

    I do say that about any FA that didn't take a midseason deal that was on the table. Any way you look at it, if you have money on the table and you turn it down, it is a risk. I would say that more often than not it pays off for the big name players, but that doesn't take away the fact that they could end up getting less than the offer that was given or even nothing if there is an injury. Casey McGehee took a risk by turning down the Brewers multi-year offer and it didn't work out for him as his performance took a major down turn.
