  1. Lasik has a significant recovery time, up to 6 months for the vision to stabilize. If Hart had it this spring when he failed his vision test, he'd miss a good chunk of time. The goggles sounded like the best bet for him, but unfortunately they don't have 1 hour prescription goggle places. It could be worse, if he had an astigmatism, the distortion caused by glasses would make hitting and fielding harder than dealing with a blurry ball. My wife is an Ophthamologist and she says vision will stabilize in 6 weeks generally actually. Of course, this is general and a particular patient may take longer based on genetics. Also if the surgeon is using subpar equipment or is a hack with the blade-then there could be problems that last longer as well. Personally, I just think that Corey Hart is bad. Edmonds will be here this year and will be platooning with Hart before you know it. Expect more starts in RF for Hart than CF for Carlos.
  2. I really feel that Hart's best days are behind him. I remember just a couple years ago the thoughts of him being traded for Matt Cain and people complained that Hart was a cornerstone for the future. Much like Hall, he will fall on his face and we will get nothing for him. Thank god he didn't sign that extension.
  3. Great message. So very true. I usually am a guy that backs players over management in contract discussions, but Corey should just be happy he has another chance. If I could bet on this arby case, I would come out a rich man.
  4. I was right about Hardy, Hall, and Hart. They are just not as good as many thought. All have serious holes in their swings. Ahh, but nobody listens and gives me some padded stat that ends up meaning nothing. Hardy>Hart>Hall. Triple H of Garbage.
  5. Mets, Dodgers (pending marriage woes), and Cubs. Hendry is keeping fans expectations low because he really took PR hits last two years by giving fans hope by saying he was in trade talks for Peavy last year and Brian Roberts year before that. If Hendry can get one year deal for Sheets...it just may happen. However, Hendry is on chopping block so it may be too risky but he is a gambler by nature. If Sheets succeeds and Cubs win...Hendry buys 2 more years for himself. If not, he would probably be gone.
  6. I will now go into season thinking the Brewers have a chance. I doubt they win, but they have a chance. I have them as 81-84 win team now and with a few breaks and a couple of career years...who knows? It happens every year with a team or two.
  7. Is Casey Close nuts? 2 yrs 20 mil+???
  8. No, I have not heard a thing. You hear anything besides usual suspects-Washburn, Davis, etc? I have been out of the country until recently and have paperwork up the ying-yang. I am totally out of the loop. I'm meeting with my Cub friend (yes, I have a few) who works in front office for Cubs on Friday night. He always has some good stuff Cub and baseball related. I wonder how serious they are about Sheets.
  9. Guys, there are many negotiations going on now. There is just a lot of posturing going on because there is no sense of urgency to sign immediately for either side. Remember last season. It took plenty of time before these guys signed. Expect signings to really start next week and then both sides will figure out that they have to start getting final figures out there before they get left in the dust. The Brewers fall in this category. They NEED another 3/4 starter.
  10. Great guy. Mediocre pitcher. I do remember that Cub game and it definitely was his shining moment. Marshall Edwards had a shining moment too. I also remember him coming in Vs Giants on opening day this year too and walking the park. Another memory was him constantly crying about not starting even though his stuff was awful after 65 pitches. Just trying to bring some fair balance around here. However, I would like to see him get another chance to prove himself with a minor league deal if things fall through for him. He does have pretty good stuff to be a decent long reliever.
  11. I'm rooting for Wolf every single outing he pitches and I hope I am wrong, but I really dislike this deal. Save this and stick it in my face if I am wrong and I hope I am.
  12. Invader, Randy Wolf is not worth over 7 million in this economy unless it is a one year deal. Personally, the John Maine for Hart trade intrigues me more. Are not the Cubs all right handed too? I'm sick of losing to those clowns. Three years in a row now. Let's kick them when they are down this year! No Wolf!
  13. This is a Suppan-Like move. The rumors I heard last week were for 3yrs 18million for Wolf. Anything north of 7 million for him is a huge mistake. He is not worth it. I have not been so vehemently against a trade since ? Big...big mistake guys. And I am a guy who loved JJ Hardy deal so I am not a hater either. Please Mets outbid us!
  14. Congrats to Bill! I hope he enjoys himself enough out there that he stays and does color for Hyannis and we get a real color guy. Bill is as dry as dust in the booth.
  15. It is nice that Heether is on the roster. Hopefully he gets a fair shot like Casey did last year. However, I heard his bat may be too slow for MLB pitching but I would like to see that for myself. I have a sense he is probably just a "guy" like Drew Anderson, but we shall see.
  16. Toronto still over their number. They will trade Halliday IMO either before the season or at the break if they think they could get a better deal which can happen when teams will be more inclined to overpay. However, they then risk a possible injury to Halladay so I assume a trade goes down before holidays for Halladay.
  17. http://www.freep.com/article/20091106/SPORTS02/91106058/1050/rss15I have a feeling Porcello was not available.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gifhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Just curious if that is based on something you've heard, or speculation at this point? Are you thinking they go after someone like John Lackey, or possibly a big trade target? No buddy...this is a pure educated guess. I think they will "kick the tires" with Lackey but I doubt anything comes of it. I am thinking maybe Halladay again or maybe King Felix deal. If I ever hear anything...I will let you know. The GM meetings start here in Chicago at the O'Hare Hilton and I know a couple of friends attending it. Maybe I can get some dirt early in the week. The meetings are shorter this year though so I think it will be more business and less drinking Bombay Sapphires at the bar like there usually is.
  19. I'll pass on them all. I think the Brewers are thinking bigger splash. We will see.
  20. Invader, again on the same page as you. Seems like last year all over again, huh? It is fun being the minority sometimes, isn't it?
  21. Gomez has a long way to go before he can be considered a solid hitter anywhere in the lineup. We will see. I may be wrong about Gomez but let's see what happens to the "beloved" JJ.
  22. Hardy is not worth an epically bad trade. If anything, it may be a loss like the Doug Davis deal tops. Quite frankly, I am surprised about the reaction on this site. It sounds more the MJS comments section after a Haudricourt article when fans overreact. Let's see where the rest of the chips fall before we jump off the ship.
  23. First of all, it is nice to be back guys. I look forward to many more moves this offseason. I, for one, like this move. Gomez may not be great, but he fills a need and will play some good center and be a solid 8 hitter next season and maybe a number #1 before season is over. I think the main problem with this move is that hardy should have been traded last year for more. Oh well. I can't wait to see Hardy fall into "Billy Hall Mode." His swing is bad and looks to yank everything and leaves the outside of the plate vulnerable. Anyone who pitches him inside is stupid. Just keep it away. He was a fan fave like Hall who really is not that good. Melvin got what he could. MilBrew fans far overvalue this guy and undervalue guys like Weeks. I hope Corey Hart is next. Another overrated guy...
  24. As many of you know, both are free agents to be. I have heard rumblings that St. Louis probably will resign these guys, but will they want to go back to St. Louis? St. Louis fans as a whole do not really care for LaRussa for whatever reason (Whitey Herzog and Ozzie Smith vendetta) and there are reasons to believe LaRussa and Duncan will flee. Inside sources agree that I talked to. Also, today on Mike and Mike, Gammons said St. Louis will probably still get these two but he specifically mentioned the Brewers as an option. What do you think? I personally think these two are worth more than any single free agent this off-season.
