Too bad for the Padres. This makes Peavy's value drop quite a bit. One of the things the Brewers wanted to do was acquire Peavy early in the game to help make a run THIS season. I really don't expect this deal ever to be done unless Brewers are around the same spot on July 30th and had not made any significant moves and Peavy is ready to pitch which it looks like he may not be. I think this was the deal that Brian was referring to to start this posting but the injury made it vanish. I expect Melvin will still make a move in the next three weeks or so.

Just talked to someone involved with Peavy and I really don't have any news. Like I said last week, he will play in Milwaukee if the Brewers can work out a trade. Believe it or not, agents sometimes are not privy to trade info until it actually happens. What was confirmed again was that Milwaukee and the Cardinals are openly talking trade with San Diego. Sorry for the lack of info. Brian got me pretty fired up too and I can't wait to hear the inevitable trade. I know Mark and Doug are really working overtime to make something happen to improve this club now. I think it will really give the team a kick in the pants too if something happens the next 24 hours.

I am on vacation and had not talked to my contact since early last week. I just checked this website and all these rumors are blowing up so I just left a message with my guy to see if any of this has to do with Peavy. I will keep you posted if I hear anything.

Heard some interesting things today so stay tuned. Cant quote anything and no links. 1. Peavy may have dropped "no trade" to Brewers in private. This obviously would allow the Brewers to ramp up talks with Pads. 2. The Cards are trying to acquire him quietly as well. FYI... (Yes, it seems odd the Cards would want him because their starters are pretty good but rumor is Lohse may be pitching hurt.)
I don't have any idea although I am sure ideas have been exchanged in passing. I usually get info from agent perspective more than the organizational stuff. The Brewers are not gonna leak any info to a schmo like me although I know some people in organization that usually are not privy to real detailed info but can confirm some things from time to time.
Just heard about major problem with this deal. Axelrod understandably does not want to say either way if Peavy will drop no-trade clause until deal is on the table with possible team and Padres. This gives him more leverage for the option for 22 million. This makes business sense to me, but I would NOT do this deal if we guaranteed that last year. The deal is already risky enough. I just don't see this happening now because Brewers won't play that game. Axelrod will have to drop demands before much else happens with Brewers. He is a good agent so he will wait it out and see if anyone gets desperate. The bottom line is that the Padres HAVE to make a Peavy deal. This waiting game could help Brewers in the end because every day that passes, the less value Peavy has. However, I change my original stance and say a trade for Peavy with anyone won't happen for awhile unless (a) a team gets desperate or (b) Axelrod drops demands. Option A is an option that the Brewers wil NOT explore unless a Hall or Suppan was taken in exchange.
I am just a fan who is on the "know" on some things that are happening at times (but still pretty rarely) with the Brewer organization and certain players. The only thing I actually knew for sure in advance was the Looper signing earlier this year and last year that the Brewers were seriously pursuing Sabathia early in the game. Let's leave it at that. I do know that the Peavy "rumors" have life and it is a possibilty because it is being talked about with the 3 possible sides-(Brewers, Padres, Axelrod.) Will it happen? My guess is that it is still doubtful at this point because of all the underlying factors involved but I know the Brewers are serious about exploring this option. I do also know the Padres want young and MLB ready pitching.
I don't mind losing Parra at all. In fact, right now I believe is the peak time to trade him. I think his upside is overrated, imo. Just my opinion. It seems that mentally that he is not all there and that is half the battle. We fell in love with Hart and Hall too. Could have got a lot for them at one time. Now Hall cannot be given away and Hart's value slips every day he misses the low and away slider.
The Brewers believe move is risky too. However, it is also a perception move if they can pull this off two years in a row too. It also means more butts in the seats, merchandising, and media attention. Believe it or not...sometimes it is not all about what happens on the field.
Parra is almost definitely a piece in deal. The other names are sketchy...just my guesses. Don't ask for any links because there are none. Like Sabathia...Brewers want to move so this happens in next ten days or chances become far less likely that it happens.
Funny you mention Felipe. I think there is a great chance that he is the one added over the more popular pick DeRosa. DeRosa has too much value because he play in multiple spots and teams will pay much more to get him over someone like Lopez. Lopez may cost you a player like Gillespie and a Single A pitching prospect. That depends on what type a free agent Lopez turns out to be as well in terms of trade value. (This is my opinion and not anything I heard by the way.)
Parra, Corey Hart, and Taylor Green gets it done and we add Brain Giles in deal too. Padres may have to take Hall for some financial relief as well. Brewers have talked to Barry Axelrod too. They do not want to get in same trouble as White Sox did. If Peavy wants...he can come to Milwaukee. We will see.
