  1. I agree that the expectations of success change things quite a bit in the IGTs -- it seems to be getting to the point where winning is more of a relief than anything, and that's not very fun. There's been more than a few times where I've decided to hold off on looking at the IGT and just enjoy watching the 2nd best team in the NL. The Counsell situation is irritating, but since it keeps happening, I don't think it's productive to keep filling the pages with "COUNSELL 6TH AGAIN!!!!" posts. At this point, we're just repeating ourselves...we might as well just grit our teeth and hope for the best. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif West Coast games are rough for those of us in the Central time zone, but at least I'll get to watch some Michael Phelps for a little while.
  2. I've had it with the likes of Ryan Ludwick and Skip Schumaker, and I've always disliked Tony La Russa. I wouldn't mind seeing the Cardinals lose every game to close out the season, to be frank.
  3. Angel Berroa is/was on that track as well, but getting traded to the Dodgers earlier this year made everyone go "Oh yeah, I kinda remember that guy..." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I'd have to think Braun really wants to play during this road trip, considering it's a trip back to his home state. I imagine there will be a lot of friends and family in attendance in LA.
  4. I really like this move for Arizona, depending on who the PTBNL's are, obviously. They already had the starting rotation and bullpen to be very dangerous in a short series, and adding Dunn's HR power will definitely help that offense. Add in the fact that they would likely face the Cubs in the playoffs and Dunn has always killed the Cubs, and I'd say it's an excellent move for the playoff push. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Counsell with a 2 RBI double...there's 6 more starts at third base. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Insurance runs are always nice, though...thanks for taking the bad risk, Willie Harris.
  6. He stranded the bases loaded after having no outs? Nice Claudio Vargas impression, Dave! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. COREY HART WEARS AWESOME. :D 3-1 Brewers on a shot into the bullpen by Hart, following a leadoff walk. I think we should talk more about how bad the Brewers are for not hitting this guy...it seems to be working. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Yeah, Rickie does have tremendous power. A couple years ago I watched the team take batting practice through the outfield panels (they weren't letting fans in yet), and saw Rickie hit some ridiculous bombs off the scoreboard. I swear he has just as much raw power as anyone on the team, Braun and Fielder included. It's just a matter of him making solid contact...that's why it's so frustrating to see him struggle.
  9. A video of Rickie's leadoff homer is now on Gameday...he definitely got all of that one, hitting it off the batter's eye in center.
  10. RICKIE BOMB! First Miller Park homer this year after turning an inning-ending double play. Nice to tie the game back up early.
  11. The Nationals played a double header in Colorado the night before the game Friday night, so they were probably low on relief pitchers. I would guess that it was Mock's day to throw in the bullpen, anyway, so they used him in the game for an inning. Ned's done that a few times with Bush, so it's not that uncommon. Lineups from TH: 2B Rickie Weeks SS J.J. Hardy LF Gabe Kapler 1B Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart 3B Craig Counsell CF Mike Cameron C Jason Kendall RHP Dave Bush LF Willie Harris SS Pete Orr 3B Ryan Zimmerman RF Austin Kearns CF Lastings Milledge 2B Ronnie Belliard 1B Kory Casto C Wil Nieves RHP Garrett Mock
  12. I believe it was announced ahead of time that Coleman was signed to a 1-day contract or something to that effect -- the story even made SportsCenter, if I remember correctly. It was pretty obvious it was going to be a publicity stunt, but it turned out to just be Coleman making an embarrassment out of himself. The bat "corked" with superballs was especially lame.
  13. Gagne looked solid until Zimmerman's marathon AB that sucked the life out of him. I thought Kearns' HR was a pop-up off the bat, judging by the weird camera angle, but maybe it looked like a bigger bomb in person. Even though they failed to cash in so many times in extra innings, it was good to see that they never really gave up -- every inning they managed to put together some solid ABs and get guys on. Kapler's HR was definitely unexpected, but if you're going to put together a great season, you're going to need guys like him to come through when you're least expecting it...looks like someone told him it was April again. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif The Brewers now lead the Cards by 3 games and the Mets by 4.5 games in the wildcard...it's definitely nice to build up some cushion there. As far as Rivera goes, it seems like Manny is extremely comfortable with him on the mound, which makes sense considering he was the guy who caught his perfect game and they spent a lot of time working together in Nashville. I wouldn't mind seeing Rivera kind of become Manny's "personal" catcher -- it'd keep Kendall fresh by giving him an off day every 5th day, and Mike could get more ABs without becoming too exposed.
  14. I thought he ruptured his achilles tendon, not his ACL? It's a tough break for the White Sox, especially since there's a chance he could be out a full calendar year with an injury like this. Considering his age, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for this to be a career-ender. For some reason, Contreras was always a guy I kind of liked for whatever reason -- I think it was seeing him have success by changing his arm slot on nearly every pitch after being forced to stick to a single slot in New York and struggling. Hopefully it's not the end of the line for him, but if it is, at least he got a World Series ring and put together a decent career after a shaky start.
  15. I say rest him again tomorrow, and see how he feels for San Diego. If he still can't go by the time the Dodgers series rolls around, then it'll be time to get a little worried.
  16. Even more incredible is that the Top 5 teams in that relay all broke the previous world record, and the US broke the record by about 4 seconds. Easily the best moment of the Olympics so far, IMO, and it'll be hard to beat it (although the 100m Dash this year should be incredibly exciting with Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, and Tyson Gay all legitimate threats to break the world record). Even though it's against the Olympic spirit, a little smack talk always makes things more interesting. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. I don't think anyone who is hoping the Cardinals lose doesn't believe the Brewers can make the playoffs -- it's the thought that the Cardinals losing further increases their chances at making the playoffs. I don't know why Tim and Sparky consider this a "losing attitude"...as far as I'm concerned, the fewer wildcard contenders, the better, and I'll go back to hoping the Cubs lose every game once this series is over.
  18. Ned says "Screw it, I want to go home" and puts in Mota. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. Kendall pinch-hitting? I'd rather see Sabathia, personally. One pitch pop-out...thanks for playing, Jason.
  20. Looks like Villa's getting a little tired out there. Hopefully he has one more out in him.
  21. My prediction of a game-winning pinch-hit by Sabathia is still alive. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. Come on, Babe Rivera. End this, please. I can't sit here all day! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. From the "Other Games" thread over on NSBB: I kinda agree. It's incredible that the Brewers are still in this game considering how bad they've played for most of the afternoon, but I'll take it.
  24. This is the game that never ends....it goes on and on my friends....
  25. EVERYBODY'S SAFE! Nice job of going opposite field, Rick. No double plays, J.J.
