  1. Yeah, I was fine with using Torres in the high-leverage situation, but I don't like sending him back out there for the 9th. Gagne or Stetter are just as good as a tired Torres, and I'd prefer to have him available tomorrow.
  2. Most teams have the bottom of their order up in the bottom of the 9th -- one of the reasons why saves are a bit overrated, in my opinion. Hopefully Hall and Cameron feel like making up for their recent blunders. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Wow...all three balls have been hit hard so far this inning, but two are outs. Hopefully Corey can dump another single in to tie this game up.
  4. Wow, JJ hit that one hard...too bad it was right at Weathers. Another tough break. BRAUN DOUBLES!
  5. Still 6 outs to get 1 run. Of course, if Hardy-Braun-Fielder all fly out on a total of like 9 pitches, I might scream. But let's worry about that bridge if we get to it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. Tough break with the ball bouncing off the shin guard...ugh. Hopefully they can get something going in the bottom of the 8th.
  7. Wow...you don't see Dunn hit a little tapper like that often. Good break, now let's get out of this inning.
  8. Adam Dunn up with the bases loaded. Lovely. Nothing like pitching to the guy with the most power in baseball when he knows he's going to get a strike.
  9. Come on Billy -- you had all the time in the world to make a good throw there. No reason to short hop that throw. Torres coming in now? I realize the Cards and Cubs have already won, but is it really worth it to pitch your closer for close to 2 innings in game one of a series? If Torres doesn't draw a DP ball, he could end up throwing a ton of pitches.
  10. Here's to hoping Shouse can hold the tie in place so Hardy-Braun-Fielder-Hart get a chance to put the Brewers ahead in the 8th.
  11. Yeah, it looked like Cameron had it for sure but lost it at the last second -- I have no idea what happened but it's not like he horribly misplayed it. I have more of a problem with him just standing there and letting the ball roll to the wall.
  12. Who does Manny Parra have to kill to get his 9th win? Between this and the Arizona game he's got to be frustrated. Still three innings left for the Brewers to bat but this sure does suck.
  13. I really, really hate playing the Reds. It seems like something always has to go horribly wrong, whether it's Javier Valentin with a walkoff single or Manny Parra cruising through 6 innings and faltering in the 7th.
  14. Nice job by Hall -- nice calculated risk by Ned, there, too. Please don't give it all back now as you're tiring, Manny.
  15. Only Dusty Baker would hit Jerry Hairston and Jeff Keppinger at the top of the lineup while putting Joey Votto and Jay Bruce at the bottom. It's like striped bass fishing, I guess. I'm kind of disappointed Dunn's not in the lineup -- I was hoping to see the Branyan vs. Dunn 3TO Contest start tonight.
  16. I really wanted the Brewers to go after Ted Lilly or Gil Meche instead of Jeff Suppan, but I don't know if they were ever really in the running for those two. That rumored Capuano/Hall for Rolen deal would look pretty good right now, even though Rolen did miss the first month or so of the season. Neither non-move was really crippling, though...just thought I'd try to add something that wasn't already mentioned. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. Sorry, you're right -- Zambrano was taken out with the game still tied at 1. Marmol was brought in and he gave up a go-ahead HR and a sac fly to make it 3-1. Lilly did get roughed up pretty bad against Doug Davis in Game 2, though.
  18. I'll agree that the dislike of Braun by Cubs fans is more performance-related than anything else (although I'm not sure anyone is hated as much as Corey Hart on NSBB http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif). I think the Astros and their fans hate Braun more for his posturing than his play, though, going back to that home run he hit against them last year (forever referenced by the SF quote in my sig) -- I don't think there's been a Brewers/Astros series since that game in which Braun *didn't* get hit by a pitch. Of course, they have no problem when Carlos Lee stares at his latest flyball soaring into the Crawford seats. I don't dislike Aramis...I think I'm more annoyed by him than anything. Part of it is his tendency to always come up in big spots, and part of it is Len Kasper sounding like Kermit the Frog whenever Ramirez comes through in the clutch. I definitely respect the numbers Ramirez puts up at a difficult position, though, and if it wasn't for Chase Utley, he'd probably be my pick for NL MVP at this point because of how much he's meant to that team. As far as Giants/Cubs goes, I'd be surprised if the Giants manage to steal one from the Cubs at Wrigley this weekend. At this point, I'd be just as happy with the Brewers expanding the wildcard lead over the Cards and Mets heading into the break.
  19. Eh, that Webb-Haren combo isn't so deadly for the Cubs now that they could possibly counter it with Zambrano-Harden, and they'd probably have the edge in the third game with Dempster vs. Davis -- not to mention they'd likely have homefield advantage in that series, and Wrigley would be absolutely rocking in the playoffs with a season like this. Anything could happen in a 5-game series, though...no one was counting on Zambrano and Lilly imploding in the desert last year.
  20. "I think walks are overrated unless you can run... If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps. But the guy who walks and can't run, most of the time they're clogging up the bases for somebody who can run." "Who's been the champions the last seven, eight years? ...Have you ever heard the Yankees talk about on-base percentage and walks? Walks help. But you ain't going to walk across the plate. You're going to hit across the plate. That's the school I come from." "It's called hitting, and it ain't called walking. Do you ever see the top 10 walking? You see top 10 batting average. A lot of those top 10 do walk. But the name of the game is to hit." "Boy, [Norris Hopper] can hit that ball hard. He's a strong little dude. The ball made a loud sound. I use my ears a lot. I can tell what kind of bat speed [he] has by that sound." (Hopper, by the way, has 1 major league home run) "All I've seen is stats. There's more to being in the big leagues than just stats. Everyone is so stat-conscious. You get away from: Can he do the little things ... to play winning baseball?" "I'm big on driving in runs and scoring runs. Guys in the middle should score about close to equal to what they drive in. On-base percentage, that's fine and dandy. But a lot of times guys get so much into on-base percentage that they cease to swing. It's becoming a little bit out of control." "(Votto) needs to swing more. I'd like to see him more aggressive."

  22. While the Rays still struggle to draw people to that dump of a ballpark, they had the second highest local TV ratings out of anyone in baseball so far this year (the Cubs are first). They have a pretty solid fanbase, but not many people want to drive all the way to St. Pete to watch a game at the Trop. I was excited to see Corey make it in, but I was a little surprised. When I heard David Wright had closed the gap today, I assumed he would end up overtaking Hart. Good thing I spent a few minutes sending in some extra votes this afternoon. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. I love the return of the Magic Number Pic of the Day. Awesome win -- a few more of these and the run differential won't be looking too bad. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. Manuel going with Romero in the 9th inning jam instead of Lidge? Huh?
  25. I wouldn't be surprised if Manny went to the bullpen for a little while to limit his innings a bit, assuming Suppan's injury won't keep him out for long. They could always put him back in when Bush/McClung starts to falter. With two pretty big series against the Cards and Cubs at the end of this month, though, they'll probably just keep throwing Manny out there, innings limit be damned.
