  1. At least Lance Berkman is out of the lineup tonight. Of course, after the way this road trip has started, it wouldn't surprise me to see Allen Craig have a big night. Never trust a man with two first names.
  2. Not to mention guys with Marcum's delivery don't tend to have long careers. I love Marcum. I've had a lot more fun watching him than I have watching anyone else since Sheets and Sabathia left. I hope he's really good for the Brewers through 2012. But I want no part of an extension that involves a lot of money and/or a lot of years. It's just too big of a risk. If he wants to tack on another year or two past 2012 that's one thing, but hopefully the Brewers stay away from a 4-5 year deal.
  3. The Astros series was tougher for me to deal with than this one. Atlanta is at least a playoff team with one of the best complete pitching staffs in baseball. Still, all is probably forgotten if the Brewers can win 2 of 3 in St. Louis.
  4. Morgan's "attitude" is likely frustration with breaking a finger a few days after getting off the DL. Who wouldn't be upset?
  5. Beachy's been really impressive all year, especially for a rookie. Almost unfair how much good young pitching they have, both starters and relievers.
  6. This team is the same group of players that took 3 of 4 from the Braves a couple weeks ago. Not much has changed, other than the Braves getting hot this time around and the Brewers struggling to score runs.
  7. Lowest Contact% so far:1. ARI 78.2% 1. FLA 78.2% 3. SDP 78.3% 4. BAL 78.6% 5. HOU 79.2% 6. COL 79.3% 7. TB 79.6% 7. CIN 79.6% 9. PIT 79.8% 10. SFG 80.2% 17. MIL 81.1% 30. MIN 84.4%
  8. We knew going in that Greinke's control probably wasn't all the way there (at least judging from his rehab starts), but the defensive WOAHs only compound the problem. Seems like Greinke's hitting a bit of a wall this inning, too, with the velocity dipping. 30 pitch first inning really did him in.
  9. Let's keep this thread about Gallardo, and try to avoid condescension. I do agree that it doesn't seem to be a physical issue with Gallardo, because the velocity has been more than fine. There was a good post in the IGT last night about Gallardo having 6-start stretches like this before, and I think Jack Moore did a good job of breaking down Gallardo's game in trying to get to the root of the problem at Disciples of Uecker. The "wait for him to get back to normal" idea won't be popular in a year that means so much to a lot of people, but it's probably the best course of action right now.
  10. But you can see he's not attacking hitters as he has in the past. I've seen more 4-pitch walks from him this year than in all year's combined, it seems. The problem is he pitches like a guy whose fastball tops out at 87 as opposed to 94-95 mph. I agree, he tries to nibble. He shouldn't need a guy who needs pin point command to get by. I remember outings last year and the year before where Yo didn't have his best stuff, but he kept battling, and kept them in the game. This year he just implodes, and seems almost scared to throw the ball over the plate. Agreed on those points, and it's more fair than throwing a term like "headcase" out there.
  11. Yo has been very good for four seasons. It seems doubtful that he's suddenly a "head case," whatever that means. He's just not pitching well. It happens.
  12. Consider this a reminder from the mods and admins of what In-Game Threads are for -- discussing games. Leave the other crap out. Thanks.
  13. I'm failing to see how a guy on a one-year deal for $1.75 million should be considered a bust when we're not even out of April yet. The reason why Saito was so cheap is because he's prone to nagging injuries like this. There's a reason why he hasn't pitched in more than 60 games since 2007. Like I said in the thread about the initial injury, this isn't even close to being the same situation as injuries to Riske or Hawkins were. Those two were being depended on to be major factors in the bullpen. When they went down or were ineffective, the bullpen looked a lot worse. Saito is just a really nice, really cheap piece to have around when he's healthy. The bullpen has been and will be fine without him.
  14. Sorry OT, but I'm shocked more athletes don't pull a Ray Allen and handle their own deals. Why not pay a much smaller one time fee to have an attorney review the contract, rather than pay a significant on-going percentage to an agent? Agents handle a lot more than just contract negotiations, which I'm sure Josh (agent39) can attest to if he still pokes around these forums. As for the original topic, I think it may have been inspired by this ESPN piece by Tim Keown. I don't really agree with him, and think his first mistake was assuming the commenters from the troll-laden minefield that is JSOnline speak for the majority of the Brewers fanbase.
  15. I'm starting to think that's just his swing now. Can't remember the last time he didn't do it. Not going to complain if some old school manager takes offense and decides to put him on base for free, though.
  16. Awesome hustle by Weeks, never slowing down even when it looked like Bruce had it. Edit: Stinks that Gomez got picked off before the triple, but you can't assume Leake would've pitched Weeks the same way if Gomez was still on base.
  17. FSN's gun is very hot tonight, it seems. Pitch f/x has Estrada's high velocity so far as 92.6, nowhere near 95.
  18. They could conceivably use the new 7-day DL for concussions if they could get that diagnosis, but that doesn't seem like something that could be done an hour or so before the game. If they would have activated Hart (using that tense because it seems pretty clear it's not happening tonight), they probably would have optioned Kintzler or Braddock since they're likely unavailable tonight anyway. Edit: Well you know what they say about assuming things. Brewers Live announces Hart activated, Almonte to the 7-day DL.
  19. McGehee is apparently available to pinch-hit if needed, but we do remember when Rickie Weeks was also "available" the day after he hurt his pinky and wasn't used when the Brewers needed a late-inning pinch hit. There's no "deadline" to activate Hart as long as it happens before the game, so if they decide Almonte can't go and they need a bat, they could activate him at the last second. I'm more worried about what happens if another infielder gets hurt during tonight's game.
  20. Considering Yuni's range problems and lack of reaction time, moving him in seems like a questionable decision, to say the least. As I type that, it's amazing how hot Braun is right now. I laughed when I saw the quote that's in my sig, but it might just be true.
  21. I'm keeping myself sane by reminding myself that the Reds went 6-12 against the Cardinals last year and still managed to win the division. It'd be nice to put up some kind of late-inning rally here, even if it comes up short.
  22. I thought the first two unwritten rules were that you don't talk about the unwritten rules.
  23. Mike Quade: Dodgers violated 'unwritten rule' with steal attempt Solution: play better. To me, the funniest part of this is that he's basically throwing his offense under the bus because he thinks an 8-1 game is out of reach when it's only the 5th inning.
