  1. I suppose having Wilson in LF is a little better than starting Kotsay or Morgan against a LHP. It's a good thing Gomez is in center to cover any extra ground, at least.
  2. FS Wisconsin is tweeting that Fielder has picked Matt Kemp, Matt Holliday, and Rickie Weeks. Apparently he'll be explaining his picks on the pre-game show. I'm picking Rickie to win it right now.
  3. I'm no doctor, but it's not out of the realm of possibility for the fracture to heal after a couple weeks. The original "4-6 week" timeline was with rehab time included, and if they're just skipping the rehab to get him on the field quickly, it's not too fishy. With that said, it is still surprising. It's possible he's rushing back too fast and is nowhere near ready to produce, though.
  4. And yet, with the really bad lineups, the offense hasn't been the problem with Braun out. The past couple games have been frustrating, but if there's anything positive that can come from it, hopefully it's a reminder to never take the foot off the accelerator.
  5. Again, it's okay to be frustrated about this game. Leave the condescension and talking down to others off the board.
  6. Game time is fixed. Should be a good pitching match-up. Hudson's put up some surprisingly good numbers this year, but his game log isn't exactly filled with quality opponents, either. Should be nice to get back to playing NL teams.
  7. Yes, that's Mat Gamel at 3B for the first time since 2010.
  8. Morgan with a triple and a HR on his birthday. Every day should be Tony Plush's birthday.
  9. Nyjer homers, Braun bunts. They really are the Bizarro Brewers on the road, huh? Bunting wasn't a terrible idea by Braun to me. They certainly weren't expecting it, just failed to execute.
  10. Depending on how the bullpen looks after tonight's game, Chris Narveson may have sent Mat Gamel to Nashville a day early. Wonder if McClendon is still on "stand-by."
  11. Narveson has served up some meatballs while struggling to find the zone, but 5 of Minnesota's 13 hits so far have come on pitches that were out of the strikezone. Being singled to death is more frustrating than giving up the 3-run bombs in New York, IMO.
  12. Not totally related to this game, but Jordan Schelling tweets that Carlos Gomez is taking grounders at first during warmups. That's...interesting.
  13. Reported by McCalvy. Seemed more and more likely the longer they waited to activate Saito, along with Gamel and Kotsay both in the lineup today. Imagine another pitcher will come up (McClendon?) when Gamel is sent down following the Minnesota series.
  14. I actually agree completely, but have finally come around to realize that IGTs are just rant/vent threads. It can be entertaining.Which is funny, because ranting is explicitly against IGT and Brewerfan rules. If people want a place to post things like "you suck you fat slob," then the staff suggests they find another place to post. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being disappointed in the team's play, expecting big things, etc. but the IGTs have become unreadable for many. It's not fun for many people to watch the team play right now, but it's even less fun for those who come here looking for good discussion about the games and find nothing but kneejerk reactions.
  15. If it makes anyone feel better about this series (it probably won't), the Yankees are 14-4 in their last 18 games, including a dominating sweep of the Rangers in which they outscored Texas 27-10. Don't know if there's anyone that can beat them right now.
  16. They really aren't pitching any differently; the Yankees aren't chasing. Brewers came into the series among the leaders in all of baseball when it comes to drawing swinging strikes and getting batters to chase out of the zone. Yankees are among the league leaders when it comes to laying off pitches out of the zone. All series long, if it's a ball, they just don't swing at it, even if it's a hair off the plate. Kind of impressive to watch, albeit frustrating from the Brewers' perspective.
  17. At least for better or worse, Gamel at 1B will give us a reason to keep watching if the game gets out of hand early. Kottaras catching was to be expected with the early start time and Wolf on the mound, just unfortunate that CC throws left-handed. I'll admit I'm not too optimistic about the team's chances in this game and have already started thinking about getting back on track in Minnesota, but that Wolf/Lester matchup in Boston was a surprise, too. Hopefully more of the same.
  18. I'm sure the Yankees' pitching has had nothing to do with it.
  19. Given the events of last night, perhaps it's for the best. Let everyone get away and regain their sanity.
  20. Down by 5 in the 5th inning is not "out of hand" when it comes to AL baseball. Especially with Freddy Garcia on the mound.
  21. Bad mix of Greinke not having good location tonight and facing a team that doesn't swing at anything out of the zone. Rarely are you going to make mistakes against the Yankees and live to tell about it. The first few runs were a bit of bad luck with Morgan falling down and runs scoring on weak groundouts, but the HR to Swisher was on a pitch left over the heart of the plate. Not a good pitch, even if it was a cheap Yankee Stadium HR that barely cleared the wall.
  22. Weeks 2B Morgan CF Braun LF Fielder 1B McGehee 3B Hart RF Gamel DH Betancourt SS Lucroy C There'll probably be debate over Fielder vs. Gamel as the 1B, but I'm just glad Kotsay isn't starting over Gamel. Very competitive lineup compared to the ones used in Boston.
  23. It's not so much that New York fans are unaware of the Brewers and have to have everything explained to them, it's just the style of writing the New York Times uses. Just about every story will have extensive history included. Tyler Kepner's a really good writer, though, and the piece is definitely worth taking the time to read. I saw him tweeting from Miller Park during the last homestand and was wondering why he was in town. He had a ton of good things to say about Miller Park and Brewers fans.
  24. Aren't all stats "made up?" As others have said, in the case of FanGraphs' WAR, FIP is the big factor. Wolf strikes out less batters than Narveson and Greinke and walks more. His success depends more on the defense behind him than those two (at least to this point). That said, Wolf's WAR to this point isn't bad. He's already been more valuable than he was all of last season.
  25. I can understand not liking the moves that were made, but I guess I don't get the criticisms of moving down in the draft. Who should the Bucks have drafted if they stayed at 10, or even moved up? In this draft, after the top two picks or so, there wasn't a huge difference in talent. Harris will help the Bucks just as much as anyone else they could've picked this year.
