  1. Kotsay's 7 walks in 42 AB would be more impressive if 3 weren't intentional. The .388 OBP so far has been nice and better than expected, but he hasn't done much over the past few years to make many of us feel good about the odds of that continuing. Boggs has more power, is better and more versatile defensively, and can switch-hit. I never understood keeping Reed and Almonte on the Opening Day roster over him because he provides just about everything you can ask for a reserve outfielder.
  2. Looks like the weather might be questionable again tonight in St. Louis, and in the first game of the series, Dusty Baker accused Tony LaRussa of withholding some information on the severity of the rain. Wouldn't mind seeing it happen again tonight, with the Reds having to stay in St. Louis long enough to have to take a redeye flight to Milwaukee.
  3. Yeah, I thought it was a bad call too, until they showed the replay I caught Joe West signaling foul tip in the background. Just a bad break for Boggs.
  4. Let's avoid this becoming a vent thread. It won't last very long if it does. Reminder of the Fan Forum Etiquette: It's perfectly fine to discuss possible options that might be better fits for the bullpen, but keep the "HE SUCKS" stuff out of it.
  5. Had a family outing to be at so I had to step out of this thread after the first few innings. Wasn't expecting this much Roenicke hate, to be honest. I didn't have much problem with Yuni running on a ground ball, but Lucroy needed to make a decision and stick with it in that situation. Either keep running to third while Yuni is in the run down, or go back to second. Don't make Yuni stop because you stopped (and make Almonte stop too, almost causing a triple play). Frustrating loss, but one they probably deserved to lose anyway. Braun and Fielder deserve a lot of credit for keeping the team in the game and getting it to extra innings.
  6. Pretty nice double play turn there by Counsell and Yuni. It's incredibly hard to double up Bourn with his speed...that was just his 2nd this year, and he had 6 all of last year. Only 1 in 2009.
  7. Gomez needs to play well for more than just a game before you can say thatHe's had a pretty good four-game stretch heading into tonight, but yeah, considering he's had hot two week stretches before tailing off in the past, it's probably a good idea to hold off on the "coming around" talk.
  8. If the Brewers score any more runs, Haudricourt will have to throw this game out when talking about how bad and inconsistent the offense is. /JokesFrom2010
  9. I think it's about time the team takes a long hard look at possibly cutting Sean Green loose. McClendon and Kintzler are both better.
  10. http://www.coronacomingattractions.com/sites/default/files/news/anchorman_brick_with_trident.jpg That escalated quickly.
  11. FSN's gun is always a couple ticks hot. Pitch f/x has Gallardo's high tonight at 93.8, which is a little above average for him.
  12. Ball hit by Yuni got under 3B's glove, but it was a play that probably should've been made. Ball goes into LF, where Carlos Lee promptly bobbles the ball while trying to pick it up. Bill was wondering if two errors could be given on the play.
  13. Prince has always wanted a long-term deal with the Brewers. It was just a matter of the Brewers giving him what he wanted in terms of money. I don't know how many of these "WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR FIELDER!?!" stories from the national media. He was gone before the Braun extension, and he's still gone. Gallardo is still really struggling with his control, but it's amazing that he only has 1 walk tonight. That's probably a part of the problem tonight -- he's not giving in, and instead is leaving pitches in the zone that are being hit.
  14. He has an option year, but the Royals included all the necessary cash to buy him out.
  15. +1 for Adam McCalvy with this subtle jab after that ball snuck through: "No errors for #Brewers tonight. Still have fewest in NL."
  16. Yo's problem is control. He can get away with it early in his outings with batters chasing balls out of the zone, like they did early in Washington and the Astros did tonight. They stop chasing once they see him a second and third time, and he's been struggling to hit the outside corners. Considering he tries to hit that spot early in the AB, he falls behind early and ends up having to throw fastballs in the zone, and that's when he gets burned. People are too quick to play the "head case" card with pitchers.
  17. Can't remember the last time I heard a Miller Park crowd explode like they did when the ball left Braun's bat there. Probably his HR against the Cubs in 2008. Very cool moment.
  18. His velocity's been fine. His problem has been hitting his spots at the right time...he certainly looked to be firing on all cylinders the first two innings, no?
  19. From McCalvy's blog. With the deferrals, Braun's year-to-year payroll hit will be 15-15-15-15-13 through the 5 guaranteed years. $18 million would be deferred, which would mean $2 million payments to Braun every year from 2022-2031. Seems like a lot now, but $2 million in 20 years might be nothing, considering inflation.
  20. Same lineup we've gotten used to. Weeks 4 Gomez 8 Braun 7 Fielder 3 McGehee 5 Kotsay 9 Betancourt 6 Lucroy 2 Gallardo 1 Edit: If Bill Hall gets booed at Miller Park, I don't know what I'm going to do. His time here didn't end well, but he's a good guy who gave it his all while he was here. It's not his fault he couldn't hit RHP and was overpaid.
  21. Never underestimate just how many reporters' ears Scott Boras has. Boras is the same guy who showed up to the winter meetings a couple years ago with a book of stats favorably comparing Johnny Damon to Rickey Henderson. The guy is good at spinning his clients in a positive light.
  22. Prote-J's manager e-mailed me a few days ago with a link to a new song for Prince that I hear may be debuting tonight against Houston. I like it better than "Heir to the Throne." Prote-J - Prince of the Game by ProteJ
  23. The press conference will be starting momentarily. Video streaming on brewers.com (it drops down from the top after awhile), and audio streaming is on 620 WTMJ's website, for those interested.
  24. Whether or not it's smart is something that can be debated once we get figures. Right now, it's very encouraging that a team like the Brewers can keep a player like Braun for what seems like his entire career.
  25. Frustrating 6th for Narveson, but 6 IP 3 ER and a tie game heading into the 7th with Cliff Lee out is nothing to be upset about, especially against the Phillies in this bandbox. Pretty solid start. Don't know if I agree with Kintzler coming in after just one day off to recover from back-to-back 2 inning outings.
