  1. At the very least, putting a couple runs up in the 9th makes me feel a little better about the offense heading into the second game.
  2. Makes you wonder if the 6 days of rest had him feeling rusty. I can understand wanting to get as much out of Yo as possible, though. You want to save the pen with Estrada starting the second game.
  3. Now I'll concede it's not a good start. Yikes. Command abandoned him the past couple innings.
  4. A line of 7.2 ERA, 1.4 WHIP is pretty crummy. Maybe he'll hold them in check for one or two more innings and bring those stats down, but as they stand, they're crummy. 89 pitches in 5.0 IP is also pretty crummy. There is a difference between crummy results and crummy pitching. On the whole, results are all that really matter, so you are right that it was a bad start. But he certainly hasn't pitched poorly. 5 Ks, 0 BBs, and 1 extra base hit. Espinosa put a nice swing on it at a bad time for Yo. That's what I was getting at. I just have a hard time complaining about a start that limits walks and extra base hits. It's not his sharpest start, sure, but he's not getting rocked.
  5. I would hesitate to call this a crummy start. Before missing his spot to Espinosa he had limited the Nats to nothing but weak singles. One bad inning doesn't make for a terrible start.
  6. Considering Morgan is hitting .201/.293/.276 for his career against lefties, I wouldn't say he's better than any other option. He'll be in the game by the 7th inning, anyway. I wouldn't count on Almonte getting more than a couple ABs.
  7. Lucroy needs to get better at blocking pitches in the dirt. Not a huge fan of Axford needing 30 pitches that outing, but I thought he did look better. At least he's starting to use the curveball more, because the fastball is still looking hittable. Winning 7 of 8 is impressive enough, but it's even more so considering how shaky the offense has looked at times during that stretch. The pitching has really carried the team through this.
  8. It's been a tight strike zone all night. No reason to expect that to change in the 9th, but man has Axford been close on some of these pitches. Barely missing.
  9. Pittsburgh's official scorer is a joke. At least he consistently makes the wrong call. /2008'd
  10. Wolf is doing a better job of keeping the ball down tonight than he has in his first two starts, and thankfully even the pitches he's leaving up are being popped up. Good to see so far. 44 pitches through 3.
  11. I'd like to thank Brewers Live for my new avatar. Telly Hughes interviewed Nyjer Morgan, but Tony Plush did make an appearance upon request.
  12. If by 'break out' you mean a .430 batting average and a homer every two games, I think you might have been setting yourself up for disappointment. He'll be fine. We're only 10 games in. No, all I wanted was a batting average of .280 and 30HR. I didn't think he would get back to his .250 with tons of Ks self so soon after the fast start. If he keeps getting on base at a .360+ clip like he did last year, I couldn't care less how much he strikes out.
  13. It'd be nice to see Edge stick around in a non-wrestling role to see Christian beat Del Rio for the title or something. That would be a pretty cool moment, I think. On an unrelated note, I've been enjoying the "new" Tough Enough so far. Pretty entertaining for a reality series, especially when Austin gets worked up.
  14. It is the Pirates, but I'd prefer to make up this game in August when Greinke and Hart are (presumably) healthy. Saw it mentioned elsewhere (maybe Toby on Twitter?) that this could also push Marcum's next start into the Philadelphia series, which would be a help there. But personally, another night without Brewers baseball stinks.
  15. The Brewers had to know that Saito was going to make a DL stint or two this year. Having it happen already in April is a bit of a bad break, but this is different from past reliever signings in that they're at least well-prepared to replace him. Guys like Riske and Hawkins were depended on. Saito's just a really nice piece to have when he's healthy.
  16. Some of the hail stones from the La Crosse area, from WKBT's online gallery. http://slideshows.embtv.com/upload/photos/2011/04/10/ce9ceb489991b2c70ba6481ba995896b_mid.jpg http://slideshows.embtv.com/upload/photos/2011/04/11/52487b135eaf2e40f1219d854f859177_mid.jpg http://slideshows.embtv.com/upload/photos/2011/04/10/a3215b215822a9c107e73d9e339378f9_mid.jpg Luckily nothing that bad where I was, but still scary to think about.
  17. Even though Linda McMahon will never have a successful career in politics, there's too much money to be made with a kid-friendly product. Buyrates are down, but Vince is making money hand over fist with endorsement deals and the like. Wouldn't count on PG going away anytime soon. I only follow off and on, but Orton never really turned after his run at the head of Legacy last year. He never changed, but fans -- mostly the older males in the audience -- started cheering him. Loudly. They've been pushing him as the "dangerous, unpredictable" anti-hero (in the mold of Austin, right down to marketing the finisher) ever since. I thought WM was okay, but you don't expect WM to be just "okay." HHH/Undertaker was at least good theater, which is all you can expect out of those two at this point. Disappointed that Edge/Del Rio only got 10 minutes at the beginning of the show. It felt like a TV match.
  18. McGehee has looked like he's needed a day off lately, but with this lineup I'd be surprised if we see anything productive out of 5-9. Definitely seems like one of those days where Yo might have to drive in a run for himself. At least with Morgan and McGehee on the bench they should have some nice pinch hit options in the late innings?
  19. Not sure if Estrada pitching tells us anything, really. It's possible he was just scheduled to throw a bullpen session between starts today, anyway.
  20. And he's performed terribly. The Brewers are being conservative because obliques are easily re-aggravated and it's April. There's really no need to rush him back and risk further injury.
  21. Once Greinke gets back, Wolf goes back to being the 4th or 5th best starter in the rotation. Considering that role, he's fine. There are quite a few 4/5 starters out there worse than Wolf is/will be.
  22. And cheats that doctored the ball, corked bats, and otherwise broke the rules of the game are also in the Hall of Fame. I think it ultimately comes down to how you view the Hall of Fame. If you think it's a reward for a great career and the highest honor in the game, you probably think the PED users should be kept out at all costs. If you think the Hall of Fame is there to chronicle the best players in the history of the game -- now matter how they got there -- then you probably don't care all that much if anyone used PEDs. For what it's worth, I probably fall in the latter group, and think it's pretty ridiculous that Joe Jackson and Pete Rose aren't in considering what they did on the field.
  23. Sorry, not looking for anything illegal, just hoping there might be an alternative to the lame-duck Bucks somewhere! No worries. You were asking a legitimate question... I just had to hide some less than legitimate replies.
  24. Guys, let's avoid sharing ways to circumvent blackout rules. They stink, but Brewerfan getting a cease and desist order would stink more.
  25. WGN is only airing the Sunday game of this series, so those of us without access to WMLW will be without Brewers baseball for the 4th time in 8 games. I have a pretty lengthy rant on this, but I won't waste the space here. Ugh.
