  1. No kidding. Biggest win of the year so far, maybe?
  2. Wow, that's a heckuva lot to give up for 2 months of Gagne. Gabbard's been a pretty solid starter for the Red Sox so far this year and Murphy looks like a nice player. I've seen reports calling Beltre a 5-tool outfielder, too, even though he's only 17. I guess it's worth it to Boston to keep him away from the Yankees...between a healthy Gagne, Okajima, and Papelbon, they're going to be awfully hard to beat in the last 3 innings. I shudder to think about what the Rangers were asking of the Brewers before the Red Sox stepped up with this offer. I don't think Gwynn and Turnbow would've gotten this done.
  3. Davies is still only 23 and has potential. Plus, Kansas City's GM came from Atlanta's front office, where he dealt with the farm system a lot (he might've been their farm director, but I'm not positive on that fact)...it's possible that he's more comfortable getting a guy like Davies than a guy like Zach Jackson because he knows what he's getting. Dotel would've been nice, but I would've been pretty irritated if the Brewers traded away another starting pitching prospect for a reliever who's headed to free agency after 2 months.
  4. According to Karl Ravech on Baseball Tonight, Tom Glavine has a great chance at getting win #300 against the Brewers since "the Brewers don't hit lefties well." Hooray blind assumptions!
  5. Somebody finally figured out how to hit Lilly's little girl curveball. Hopefully that continues through the rest of the season.
  6. It's a good question...you would think there would be a bigger deal made of it, since Glavine may be the last guy to hit 300 wins for a long time. Randy Johnson's 16 away, but he's been shut down for the rest of the year and is having another back surgery. I think Glavine's pursuit for 300 has also been overlooked by the national media -- with all the attention on Bonds chasing 755 and Alex Rodriguez chasing 500, Glavine's milestone has kind of been left in the dust. There was only a quick mention of it during tonight's Phillies/Cubs game.
  7. I guess this is an okay trade for the Mets since they didn't really give up much at first glance, but am I the only one who thinks they probably could've stuck with Ruben Gotay at 2B and not lost much? Castillo's having a pretty average year, and isn't even stealing bases like his old self...only 9 steals in 13 attempts. Kind of a "blah" trade all around...seems like the Mets just got a big name to appease the NY media.
  8. Link: www.startribune.com/blogs...sen/?p=274 In return, the Twins get two minor leaguers -- catcher Drew Butera and outfielder Dustin Martin. Edit: Whoops...didn't see there was already a topic in the rumors forum, since this isn't quite official yet. My apologies...this can probably be locked/deleted.
  9. - Yo pitches tomorrow with the chance of splitting a road series (!!). - Worst case scenario (Brewers lose Sunday, Cubs win Sunday, Cubs win while Brewers are off Monday) -- the Brewers are still tied for first place when their home series with the Mets starts on Tuesday. - The Cubs have to face Cole Hamels in the first game of the Philly series, and the Cubs are putrid against left handed pitching, even during their hot streak - Tom Glavine, who will pitch the first game of the Mets series against the Brewers, is left handed, and we all know how well the Brewers hit lefty pitching.
  10. Life is one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Flanders (or the Cubs) were dead. Today was a rough day and one I'd prefer to forget...it seemed like the entire second game was played in a state of shock that carried over from the first game. Yo goes tomorrow, and I have a good feeling about it...a split for the series would be nice, but at least one win today would've been better.
  11. Well, I think it's important to remember that this is a team that won 75 games last year -- just getting to 90 wins should be cause for at least a *little* celebration. You don't have to feel that way if you wish, but there are some that like to find positives even if they miss the playoffs this year. As for the question of whether or not this is fun, the constant checking of the boxscores during losses like today isn't fun, but I have to say I've been paying a lot more attention to Brewer games now that every game potentially means something -- when they were up by 8.5 games, it wasn't nearly as fun, since each win produced more of a "meh...that's cool" feeling than a "WOOO!! TAKE THAT CUBS!" feeling. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I get the feeling that those feelings will only intensify if the Cubs get to within a half game of the Brewers, and each game could cause a change in the division lead every day. It wouldn't be good for the nerves, but it'd definitely be entertaining.
  12. CoCo's had the most save chances of anyone in the Majors, if I remember correctly...that's more chances to blow a save. I'd say it's harder to blow only 1 save when you've gotten 35 chances, compared to 18. Even though he's blown 5 saves, Cordero is a very good closer that gets the job done more often than not (it's not like the guy is Armando Benitez or Jorge Julio out there). With that said, this is probably a good example of why it wouldn't be smart for the Brewers to throw a bunch of money at Cordero -- the difference between the good closers and the average ones is so small, it's not worth the extra cash. I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers let everyone in the bullpen duke it out in Spring Training next year for the closer's role.
  13. The guy has a good amount of pop in his bat, but for whatever reason, his batting average has fallen off the face of the Earth the past couple years after being a .300ish hitter. Seems like another buy-low trade for the Reds, much like the Brandon Phillips acquisition a couple years ago.
  14. WHOOO!! DOUBLE PLAY!! Turnbow is so unbelievably lucky sometimes....wow.
  15. I'm trying not to freak out here, but please throw strikes, CV. Edit: Whew...now hopefully they can piece together some insurance runs, since Turnbow and CoCo haven't exactly been stellar on the road lately.
  16. Murton's a nice player, but that rumor is just about as silly as the TGJ/Wise rumor, if you ask me. Can't fault them for kicking the tires on Dunn, though.
  17. There's not one, but *two* Brewer games tomorrow -- how cool is that!? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Good fastball and curveball with some control issues? Sounds like another Derrick Turnbow...maybe with some help from Maddux, McClung could have some success in Milwaukee like Turnbow has. Of course, I wouldn't be opposed to stashing him in AAA for the rest of the year and bringing him up next year to step into a pen role.
  19. Iguchi's a nice little addition for them. He's nothing special, but I'd say he's about an average player who's just having a down year. Playing in Citizen's Bank Park should help him out a bit. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Once Utley comes back, they'll have a nice utility guy on their hands who could potentially start at third if they wanted to give less at bats to Wes Helms (although I don't know why anyone would want to do that).
  20. Virginia Tech played in a National Championship game, though, while UGA and UW haven't. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif That's still pretty impressive, considering how they've managed to fly under the national media radar over the years.

  22. Aaron Harang pitches Saturday against the Cubs. Wouldn't it be awesome to get two wins on Saturday combined with a Cubs loss?
  23. http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/photographer/70/7007_large.jpg Prince's go-ahead run against Pittsburgh earlier this year http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/photographer/66/6661_large.jpg Jenkins' diving stab to keep the game alive in that extra-innings win in Chicago, also earlier this year.

  25. Seemed like there was a lot more infield flyballs than usual in the Cincy series, too, so that might be what Ned is getting at. It was frustrating how many balls didn't carry over the wall this past series, too, but I'm sure both teams would've liked to see the ball carry a little better this week. Of course, one could take Ned's comments as indication that even he is starting to think that the Brewers hit "too many" home runs and struggle to score in other ways.
