  1. http://web6.twitpic.com/img/109864486-a0d6984ed80f966764b1ac26d1cca469.4c06fe90-scaled.jpg Gomez had a decent at-bat there...was smart enough to not take the bat off the shoulder until he saw a strike or two after Hart walked to load the bases. Too bad he couldn't find a hole, but the fact that the Brewers didn't score that inning is more on Braun's head than Gomez's. Braun's cost the team two runs now, between the baserunning blunder and losing the ball in the first inning and not getting a good throw home.
  2. What the hell is going on with the baserunning this inning? First the Fielder single off the wall, and then Braun holds on the ground ball.
  3. Officially in a rain delay. Luckily, neither starter has warmed up yet, so we won't have to worry about scrambling to pick up innings from a short start (yet).
  4. This may be the Brewers' best chance at winning a game this series. I hope Capuano does well tomorrow, but I'm not expecting him to win going against Josh Johnson. Volstad's a guy the Brewers have touched up before, if I remember correctly. Edit: Nevermind...doesn't look like he's faced the Brewers before. Must be thinking of someone else.
  5. He should have been traded last year as the team was clearly not going to be making the playoffs. I imagine that had we found a team desperate for relief pitching, the Brewers could have got quite a ransom in return. The Brewers put him on waivers last August and the Giants claimed him, but no deal was made in the 72-hour window. I don't know if we ever found out if there was a real attempt made at making a trade or not, though.
  6. not borderline, just pathetic. in fact, he's pretty much just been awful regardless of whether or not there are runners on base. Only marginally related, in my opinion, the least valuable hit in all of baseball is a Prince Fielder single because it's usually going to take 3 hits or a homerun to score him. It's pretty hard for him to do much when he's maybe getting 2 or 3 good pitches to hit in an entire game. To his credit, he's at least been patient and has still been getting on base even if the slugging isn't there. McGehee and Hart have done a good job of driving in runs after they pitch around Prince, but it'd still be nice to see Prince get hot. Hopefully tonight's homer was a step in the right direction.
  7. After getting my hopes up that today would be DFA Day, I had to do something. I think a tweet from Miller Park Drunk said it best today -- Jeff Suppan is like a cockroach, and if Miller Park was hit with a nuclear bomb he'd be the only Brewer still standing.
  8. FanGraphs has the average velocity of his fastball at 85.7 mph this year, down from 87.9 last year (and 88.7 the year before that). Something happened, and the line drive incident seems to be the most plausible explanation (although it's entirely possible something else caused the huge drop).
  9. Haven't seen this anywhere yet, so I'm putting it here -- according to Jen Royle of MASN, former Yankees and Nationals reliever Brian Bruney has signed a minor league deal with the Brewers. He has an out clause if he's not called up in a month.
  10. Willis has been traded to the Diamondbacks, according to Ed Price. No word on what the Tigers are getting in return, but it can't be much.
  11. 13-14 Tie Breaker: 3+2+4 = 9
  12. I think with Bush on the mound, I would've preferred someone in center that can protect the gaps a little better than Edmonds. Hopefully Bush can keep it in the infield, though. Let's avoid the ugly 6th inning today, guys.
  13. Loe had a 4.55 FIP in Triple A. Needless to say, I'm less than excited to see him throw against big league batters with the Brewers' defense behind him. This may be "making a move just to make a move," but with the bullpen running on fumes lately, they needed a fresh arm (just like they did when they called up Estrada as a warm body).
  14. Estrada has thrown 53, 5, and 33 pitches in the past three days. He's not very good to start with, but when he's working this much the results are predictable.
  15. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2010 Brewers. At least the Marlins' bullpen is apparently as strained as ours at the moment. Chip away and make this a game in the 9th, will you, guys?
  16. Who knew Carlos Villanueva would struggle while pitching on his third straight day? This bullpen's a mess right now, and is in desperate need of (another) fresh arm. I'd be surprised if we go through this entire series without making a bullpen move, even if it's temporarily sending one of the one guys down. Of course, a Jeff Suppan DFA to clear roster space would be nice, too.
  17. Part of me understands Macha wanting Narveson to get through the inning at all costs so save the bullpen a little more, but he'd already had Villanueva warmed up and ready to go.
  18. I didn't hear it, but I'd believe it. He spent a few minutes calling Fredi Gonzalez "Freddy Sanchez" before correcting himself. Maybe he's getting too much sun down there today. Edit: Rough market size rankings... 1. New York 2. Los Angeles 3. Chicago 4. Baltimore/Washington 5. Oakland/San Francisco 6. Philadelphia 7. Boston 8. Detroit 9. Dallas/Fort Worth 10. Toronto
  19. And they're getting a new stadium. We'll see if a retractable roof and air conditioning (and a downtown location) will do anything to help the attendance, but at least their TV ratings are good.
  20. Narv Dog's first trip through the lineup was pretty smooth...hopefully the 2nd and 3rd trips don't get rocky. Pitch count was around 50 to start the 4th inning.
  21. Hart's hitting has gotten to the point where his value is probably never going to be higher, and despite the good homestand, the chances of making the playoffs at this point are incredibly slim -- the Reds had the best record in the NL heading into Sunday. If he's still hitting this well in a few weeks, I think the Brewers would be crazy to not consider trading him, especially if a team like the Padres is willing to give up a pitcher to improve their offense.
  22. BREWCREW5 started this thread by saying, "This isn't a thread about venting or complaining." There was some very good discussion going on early on, but sadly, we've gotten so far off the original topic that there's no reason to keep this thread open anymore.
  23. You know it's not your day when even Zach Braddock is struggling with location. Yikes. Unfortunately, Zach may be in there to take a beating until he gets 3 outs.
  24. I feel like the negatives with Hawkins have been way overblown. He's only had three really bad outings, the last of which most would probably attribute to him being hurt. The rest of his outings (except for one in which he gave up 1 run) have been clean, and many of them have been hitless. He was fine before his velocity disappeared. Still holding out hope for this game. K-Rod's far from a sure thing as far as closers go. Be patient with him and make him throw a lot of pitches and he may unravel.
