  1. Nice to see you made the effort to throw home, Jim. Well, that's a bummer. At least they kept it close, which was a lot more than I was expecting after Narveson's first inning.
  2. Looks like the extra couple MPH added by coming out of the bullpen is really helping Loe. He's been striking out everyone since coming up, and he was barely striking anyone out in Nashville. Not complaining now, though.
  3. After the team wasted his leadoff double last night, Rickie figured he'd just hit one out to start the game this time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. I'd be all for sending Lucroy back to AAA to play every day, but the problem is there doesn't seem to be another option in the minors that play as well as Lucroy in the backup catcher role. There's still the chance he catches Parra tomorrow, but I can't blame anyone for not getting their hopes up on that.
  5. I'm not sure I get this lineup. Gomez sitting for a second straight game? Escobar sitting? Why, exactly? Oh well. Hopefully they can at least put up a fight on national TV today. This is probably the most winnable game of the series.
  6. Wainwright's Game Score was 90. Dominating. ESPN box score has him throwing 103 pitches, 73 for strikes. Even if the Brewers tried to be more patient with him, they wouldn't have gotten very far.
  7. Yeah, I can't get too down on Wolf's start, either. He was an out away from leaving with 7 IP, 4 ER, which would've been enough to keep the team in the game if Adam Wainwright wasn't spinning a gem right now. Short of matching Wainwright pitch for pitch, there wasn't much Wolf could've done, and considering the slew of extremely short starts lately, I'll take it. Ringing endorsement of this team right now? Not really, but it's not like Wolf is Suppan-bad out there.
  8. Among the things Ken Macha Does That Drive Me Crazy, intentionally walking the bases loaded is climbing its way up the list. It worked out this time, but why wouldn't you just pitch Holliday away, away, away and hope he gets himself out? If he walks, he walks, but at least it wouldn't be intentional.
  9. I think most of us don't know how to respond to how good Wolf looked the first couple of innings. People weren't kidding when they talked about how bad the Cards have looked against LHP so far this year.
  10. Lineup edited into first post. Wolf batting 8th, Edmonds batting 5th and starting in CF.
  11. You'd think Nunez won the World Series there, instead of almost blowing the save. Ah well. The end result was a lot closer than I was expecting with Cappy's short start. Go get 'em in St. Louis and catch them off guard, I guess.
  12. It's been a disappointing series, but I don't find a lot of shame in losing to one of the best young pitchers in the game. But I can agree there hasn't been much to get excited about tonight.
  13. You can blame Rickie for Capuano not getting out of that inning, but he wasn't exactly sharp tonight, either. Good job by Loe getting out of the bases loaded jam, though. That sinker is nasty (as long as the Marlins keep flailing at it).
  14. If the Brewers end up losing to Josh Johnson, I'm sure that tidbit will make it into Haudricourt's lede for his story. He was the main one that shoved the streak down everyone's throats and made it a bigger deal than it really was, making it seem like every loss was Capuano's fault.
  15. Start time slated for 7:20 ET, according to Tyler Barnes. Should be underway momentarily, with just a 10 minute delay.
  16. Ned Yost was ejected today for the first time as Royals manager, but he was justified in his actions. Jason Kendall disagreed when home plate umpire Mike Estabrook called a pitch from Zack Greinke a ball, but didn't do it in an obvious way (looks like he might've just said something while in his crouch). Greinke went to get set for his next pitch, but stepped off the mound when he saw that Estabrook called time walked into the left-handed batter's box and started yelling at Kendall while Kendall remained in his crouch. Yost came out to defend Kendall and got tossed within a few seconds. Video from MLB.com. The second half shows everything from the camera behind home, where you can see Estabrook call time and start berating Kendall. Estabrook is apparently a minor league umpire filling in for this game. I think it's safe to say he won't be getting another big league call anytime soon.
  17. Being taken off the Wolf assignment was probably to be expected. They never really did get into a rhythm and Macha seemed pretty upset with them in the postgame after their last start (saying something like "they had a few days to get on the same page and they didn't do it"). Wolf just seems like the kind of guy that's hard on a lot of young catchers, so I don't know if Kottaras will fare much better. The good news for Jon is that Capuano always seemed like a pretty easygoing guy to catch. Hopefully this doesn't remain his only catching assignment, though. He really needs to be paired up with that second pitcher, otherwise the team's basically just wasting his time. It's too bad there doesn't seem to be many short-term catching options available right now.
  18. That was the first game I ever bought for the N64, and I played the crap out of it (and abused the "Griffey calls his shot" automatic home run code). I agree with RyDogg that I say goodbye to my childhood with him gone. Quite possibly my favorite player ever, and the reason I had just as many Mariners hats as I did Brewers hats as a kid. It's a shame he could never stay healthy or get to a World Series. We'll always wonder how many home runs he would have hit if he didn't miss so much time in Cincinnati.
  19. I split the Jim Joyce discussion from the original umpiring thread, since this is a big enough topic that it warrants its own thread. Use this thread to talk about the incident and whether it calls for instant replay, and use the original "Umpires egos" thread for other umpiring matters that seem to fit there.
  20. The best part? His BABIP entering tonight was .200. He should probably be hitting much better than he already is.
  21. Broken bat home run? That's why George Kottaras is awesome. Well, that and the .400 OBP and .900 OPS while hitting .200.
  22. Uh, Ken? Yo has 114 pitches through 7. Why aren't you warming anyone?
  23. Nice outing for Yo, especially considering he didn't look quite as sharp as the other night. If I counted right, he should get an extra day of rest before his next start, and he's definitely earned it.
  24. No worries...we should probably keep discussion in this thread focused on the Brewer game. Further Joyce discussion should take place in the "Umpires Ego" thread.
  25. Joyce quote from the Associated Press: "I just cost that kid a perfect game. I was convinced he beat throw, until I saw the replay. It was biggest call of my career." At least he was man enough to admit his mistake, unlike some umpires last October. I still remember Tim McClelland saying he "believed in (his) heart" that a Yankee (I think it was Swisher) left third too soon on a sac fly, even after seeing the video evidence.
