  1. Crap. Heck of an AB by Prince, though. Too bad he couldn't come up with another big hit. He shouldn't feel too bad -- he was the offense tonight.
  2. I love rent-a-players. Hopefully Braun avoids swinging out of his shoes for a change.
  3. I guess the good thing about Cameron's lack of contact is that he's not likely to hit into a double play here. Of course, now that I say that, it's probably what will happen.
  4. Hank freaking White. Ugh. Here's to hoping for another miracle comeback against Kerry Wood. At least the Mets seem to be more catch-able than the Phils.
  5. I remember that game, sadly. I think I was even the one to post that Gameday screen cap. I still remember Yost letting Kevin Mench hit with the bases loaded in the the 9th against a righty and leaving Jenkins on the bench. Talk about vintage Yost. Edit: When is it time to issue Prince his Cub Killer card?
  6. Well at least Dempster should be done with 114 pitches. Now here's to hoping the Cubs don't answer with 2 more right away.
  7. Wait, what's this? A freaking rally? Dale Sveum IS magic!
  8. At least Dempster's PC is quickly climbing. If we're lucky we'll get to face Bob Howry.
  9. I think a lot of people are still trying to figure that out, and that's what made it such surprising news. 12 games is way too few to have any real impact, IMO. By the time the players start to respond to Sveum, it's too late. The firing was good for improving morale on an off-day after a brutal series, but that good morale only lasts until you start losing another game, like we're seeing tonight.
  10. Was a lot supposed to change? These are the same players that Yost had, and virtually the same coaching staff. The firing was just an aesthetic change.
  11. Dempster looks really good to start this game, and it's not just the Brewers looking bad. Hopefully they can get to him the second and third times through the order.
  12. I really hope Corey's struggles are because he's uptight about contract negotiations, but that's the kind of thing that's next to impossible to prove. I just hope he shows better patience at the plate next year...he'd be such a dangerous hitter.
  13. Holy crap, Braun walked! I still get surprised when that happens. The magic of Sveum!
  14. Holy crap Len Kasper and Bob Brenly film their pre-game stand-up crazy early. The stadium was still mostly empty and it was still light out when they were talking. Apparently, today is "Carlos Zambrano Day" by decree of the governor of Illinois. Are you freaking kidding me?
  15. Top 5, if you click on the "replies" header on the IGT forum page: 4/23/07 Brewers (Vargas) at Cubs (Zambrano) -- 1069 replies (Jenkins diving catch to save the game, late-inning win) 3/31/08 Brewers (Sheets) at Cubs (Zambrano) -- 948 replies (Opening Day this year) 4/2/08 Brewers (Suppan) at Cubs (Lilly) -- 676 replies (Going for a sweep of the Cubs to start the year, IIRC) 7/5/06 Reds (Ramirez) at Brewers (Villanueva) -- 664 replies (Brewers win back-and-forth 13 inning game -- Reds took the lead twice in extras only to cough it up both times) 5/1/08 Brewers (Gallardo) at Cubs (Zambrano) -- 629 replies (The injury game) I don't know if there were longer threads that were lost or whatever, but that's what I came up with. Funny that 4 of the 5 are Cubs games, and three of those involve Zambrano.
  16. I think Sveum just wanted to emulate the Cubs by putting Cameron in the leadoff spot, a la Soriano. Also, for what it's worth, the Cubs can win the division with a sweep. Their magic number is 6. Please win tonight so we can avoid having to watch the Cubs celebrate after beating the Brewers.
  17. Hey, remember when the Brewers took 2 of 3 in each of the first two series in Wrigley? That was fun. Let's do it again. I'm still having a hard time believing this guy: http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/pressbox/photos/headshots_players_coaches/123011_90x135.jpg is actually the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers now, but hopefully he doesn't manage as dumb as he looks.
  18. Ned will probably catch on somewhere else as a coach. At least he still has the numbers on his side.
  19. Showalter would be a disaster. It'd be nice to have someone a little more involved as the manager, but Showalter takes that to the extreme. He's a dictator, and he's never lasted very long anywhere because he's the type that players tune out after a couple seasons. I know a lot of people would love the no-nonsense approach, but I'd be terrified of the team tuning him out quickly and things going down in flames quickly. Ideally, I'd want someone with a personality somewhere in between.
  20. Go Nats against the Mets. Even though the Phillies staying hot and the Mets tumbling would mean the Brewers facing the Phils again in the first round of the playoffs, it doesn't seem like Philly's cooling off anytime soon. I might as well cheer for the scenario in which the Brewers have the better chance of making the postseason.
  21. I think Corey spoke up because he IS so well liked by the average fan. If Hall, Fielder, Weeks, Gagne, Turnbow, etc. come out and say "I don't like it when fans boo us" (or in Fielder's case he just wished they wouldn't do it as often), then those booing fans become even more intense because those guys are doing poorly. Maybe they think if a guy like Hart or Braun or Hardy sticks up for their fellow teammates, the fans won't be so quick to jump on them. I, for one, never really understood booing at a baseball game because things go wrong a lot more than they go right. A guy can only get a hit 3 times out of 10 and be considered a very good hitter -- those 7 failures provide a lot of opportunities for fans to boo. I think it's one thing to voice displeasure with an error in the field, it's another to completely rail on a guy every time he isn't perfect.
  22. Astros beat the Pirates, and it looks like the Cards are trying to mount a late-game comeback against the Cubs.
  23. The Phillies are still closer to the NL East lead than the Wildcard lead.
