  1. Another day without losing any games to Philly, another step closer to the playoffs.
  2. Blech. At least they've been consistently bad at home against the Reds all year. No ground lost, though. Hopefully CC can salvage a win tomorrow.
  3. It's Packer season now, school has started, and that CC guy isn't playing.
  4. Ugggh...blow the air conditioning out or something!
  5. If only Tony Gwynn Jr. could have someone bat for him all the time.
  6. I hope to God that Hardy ends this with a solo HR so we don't have to watch Braun swing out of his shoes trying to be a hero again.
  7. Tough hop, but you need a better throw there. Losing a series to Dusty Baker would really suck.
  8. Rob Drake is a pretty bad umpire, but you have to swing at that pitch with two strikes, Bill. Oh well. Walkoff wins are more fun, anyway.
  9. Edwin Encarnacion has to be one of the worst defensive third basemen in the majors, doesn't he?
  10. A lot of sharply hit grounders that had me holding my breath, but it's nice to get out of it with the score still tied. Part of me doesn't want the Brewers to take the lead in the bottom half so we don't have to sit through another save opportunity. Let's just win it with a walkoff and be done with it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. And this thread (and the vent thread) explodes in 3...2...1...
  12. God bless the cheap picnic area home runs. Let's call that payback for the cheapie Patterson hit off Gagne back in April. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. Let's go...team that's playing the Cardinals. I can't bring myself to say the actual team name.
  14. Have the Cubs collapsed by not seizing the opportunity to put the division away? They've also lost something like 7 of 10 lately. Granted, they still have the wildcard to fall back on if they lost that division lead, but they're failing to capitalize just as much as the Brewers, IMO. It stinks that they're not taking advantage of the situation, sure, but I always defined collapse as completely losing everything -- if the Cards/Phillies/Mets had won every day the Brewers lost lately and Milwaukee found themselves a few games back in the wildcard hunt, then yeah, that's a collapse. But they've lost only lost 1 or 1.5 games over this stretch, and they're not losing a game on Philly again tonight. Every day the Brewers spend atop the wildcard standings without losing ground is a positive thing to me. Sure, I'd love to blow these teams away in the chase and be able to coast into the playoffs, but it doesn't look like it'll happen. Regardless, the Brewers still have a better chance at reaching the playoffs than anyone else still in the wildcard hunt -- that's why I'm personally not too concerned. They've had stretches like this earlier this year where they struggle to hit, and then they come back to put things together again.
  15. Game threads are almost impossible to post in these days without getting the urge to be a tad bit condescending. So many things make me want to say "are you freaking serious??" but I'll just keep biting my tongue. I don't really see how this past week could be considered a collapse when they've barely lost any ground, but I'm probably one of the few.
  16. Good freaking lord Suppan stinks. There's very few players on this team that I really can't stand, but he's one of them. There's not enough veteran experience in the world to make up for such god-awful pitching. It'd help if the Brewers could string together some hits, but Suppan's been pretty bad for most of the year.
  17. It helps when you can get more than one hit through 5 innings. The past week or so seems like the Brewers are trying to get credit for degree of difficulty. I just wish they'd go back to clubbing the snot out of teams. That little stretch was fun.
  18. I'll start worrying about the Astros when they overtake the Phillies for second place in the wildcard. Until then, their recent run is just kind of "meh" to me. At least the Mets and Cards are losing so far, and the Phillies are still trailing. Hopefully the Marlins can hang on.
  19. Cincinnati's bullpen: 3.76 ERA, 473.1 IP, 486 H, 198 ER, 226 R, 186 BB, 413 K, .266 BAA Looks like they're okay, but not unbeatable. Edit: Posting entirely in pink is a pain in the butt. I can't just use quick post like I usually do.
  20. The baggy uniform he's starting wearing the past year or two definitely doesn't help his look. If you catch a glimpse of Prince when the Brewers untuck their shirts after a win, his jersey nearly falls down to his knees. He looks like a 6-year old playing dress-up in his dad's clothes.
  21. I just have a really hard time being too hard on Melvin for building this bullpen when it's nearly impossible to determine which relievers are going to be good ahead of time. Yeah, we had a feeling that guys like Gagne and Mota were going to be problematic this year, but we had no idea that Torres was going to be as good as he's been, nobody knew who the heck Brian Shouse was when Melvin traded Enrique Cruz for him, and Villanueva is still so young it's hard to tell how he'll pitch year to year. Riske looked like a solid signing and it looks like he's producing slightly below where he has recently. It's just so hard to tell. He could've gone out and tried to trade for someone, but all reports around the trade deadline indicated that teams with good middle relief were asking for ridiculous returns. I'm glad Melvin didn't roll the dice on a middle reliever trade in the middle of the season for the second year in a row -- I didn't mind the Linebrink trade much (still don't), but I don't want it to become an annual thing. Also, all indications were that there weren't even that many middle relief options out there. When guys like Doug Brocail are being brought up as "the best reliever on the market" you're not going to improve your bullpen very much -- if at all.
  22. I'm actually incredibly calm. They say that's what it's like right before you pass on, though, so I don't know if that's good. Luckily, everyone else in the wildcard hunt sucks just as bad right now.
  23. Oh no...please don't blow this Sal. I've had enough excitement tonight with the Packers game.
  24. Let me be the one to say "Where the heck was that against the Mets, Dave!?" Regardless, great start tonight. Here's to hoping for more of the same down the stretch. If Bush pitches like this in the playoffs, the Brewers could really could give someone fits.
  25. Jason Kendall hit a home run? I've missed both of his home runs this season -- I'm not entirely convinced that they actually happened, but I'll play along. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
