  1. I'm still hoping for the best. Despite being three weeks into football, I still have the Brewers desktop on the computer. I'm wearing Brewers apparel at every opportunity. I just want so much for this to take one more turn to the surreal. That said, I am wrong for hoping, if it doesn't work out, that the Brewers are eliminated before the Cubs come to town? Not to tie this into the 'atmosphere' thread, but the prospect of this team being serenaded off their home field by 25K Cubs fans singing "Hey, Hey, Hey Goodbye" is a little much.

  3. Sadly, rluz, you weren't that far off with the hypothetical.
  4. I'm wondering whether it is more fair to characterize the April-August 2008 Brewers as a "mirage" or a "fraud". The question itself doesn't anger me as much as the fact that I have to ask.
  5. Went to my kid's swim meet after work. Wore my Brewers apparel. Left after her last event finished, approx 6:20. Was leaving the school and met a guy going in. He was also wearing Brewers stuff. We never said a word. He just shook his head, then flashed me a 5 and a 0 with his fingers. Dropped my wife at home, and headed off to the HS football game. The local kids are still undefeated and looking good after tonight. Never once thought about the train wreck until I got back home. Learned yet again that the Brewer fan bond is still strong, even if the team is not.
  6. Numbers for perspective: Over the past 10 games, the Crew is 2-8. This is the worst record in baseball, save Seattle, which has the worst record in baseball, period. Meanwhile, Cinci has gone 7-3 in their last 10, including handling the Brewers in Milwaukee. Pittsburgh has played better than the Brewers lately and the Brewers have stunk in MP against the de facto home team for years. That would be some turnaround.
  7. If the worst case sceanrio happens this weekend, the Brewers should just hope for a lot of rain, and make sure that the roof is 'broken' with the key replacement part on two week back-order.
  8. I'm not done yet. I like to have something to be burningly angry about, while at the same time having something really imporbable to hope for. Without looking, I think this may be the definition of masochist. As soon as the elimination becomes official, I'll be done with baseball for the year though. The big problem from a time saving perspective is that the Brewers did such a nice job up until Sept 1 that their death throes will be prolonged, and probably ugly. The only time I'll be missing anything is when football is on. Badgers picked a bad week for a bye, as that would be a nice diversion on Saturday. Lots of other good games to watch though. No playoffs for me, unless the improbable happens and the Brewers find their way in. I'll definitely having an 'anti-' rooting interest at stake, but these playofs will just be too much to bear. I'm so entrenched in this feeling I'm even planning on passing up a chance to go the see live playoff ball in the Cities in the event the Twins can break out of their death spiral.
  9. Congrats to BA. I'm pretty sure I'm done with baseball as soon as the Brewers are eliminated, so I'm glad I won't have have BA's voice reminding me of a wasted September.
  10. Another way to simulate the playoff race from a Brewer fan perspective: Run full speed into brick wall. Regain consciousness, convince yourself that the result will be diferent next time. Repeat until eliminated.
  11. There is still a 2008 Silver Lining Thread.
  12. If the Brewers bring Gallardo back this season unless it is for a game in which they can clinch a playoff berth, I will hate them more than I already do
  13. Quit sugar coating this Coshun: They are not a gme out of the wildcard. They are a full 2 games out of the wildcard in the loss column (which is all that matters) , and a million miles away in terms of fundamental baseball skills and thinking.
  14. It's justice. The Brewers lost the game by making the same mistakes, and failing in the same ways, that they have all season.
  15. In a way I find all this oddly reassuring. Despite all the evidence to the contrary, there are still places in the world where the deserving are rewarded and the undeserving are punished.
  16. Let's not just do this for the sake of breaking the streak and then go back to stinking.
  17. If Benny sees the plate again this season, he needs to just take three pitches and sit down. Of course, he'll probably end up taking one off the wrist or in the earhole.
  18. To me 'doghouse' implies benching or displeasure for minor pecadillos, personal disagreements or for performance issues that keep one player out of the lineup while being overlooked in other players. Seems to me Fukudome has just found the bench all on his own by stinking
  19. Gamecast has gone WMLW on us in DC Ball 1 Ball 2 Strike 2 Strike 3
  20. When I saw West standing there last night for the exchange of lineup cards I figured there would be some trouble in this regard at some point in the series. Hopefully it doesn't amount to much. The worst is inconsistent ball/strike work.
  21. My wife konws the Brewers have been losing, but I thought she had only a minor grasp of what's really been happening. She just walked into the room and after about five seconds of watching , ased "Hey, how did Corey Hart get to second base?" Classic. Maybe she has more than a minor grasp.
  22. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to react right now. It seems like so long since they've really even had a lead that felt sort of safe. I vote for adding on two more, then getting 9 outs as quickly as humanly possible.
  23. I wasn't disputing the call, just noting the consistency.
  24. Yeah, my current pessimism mode has me thinking 8th inning blowup, followed by some maddeningly poor and futile 9th inning ABs.
