Why is Hart regressing? / Merged: Corey Hart (.300) OBP
jhpc12 replied to endaround's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
You know guys this is really getting old. I know someone has to complain about something all the time. But I believe it is a little excessive here. Corey had one month, one. He has been average or above average in almost every category all year. And even with his one bad month he still remains in the top ten in extra base hits. And I don't mean to through wrench in every ones parade, but outside of two hits Braun had just as bad a month as Corey. And the thing everyone seems to forget is if Corey doesn't drive in 24 RBI's in June or 20 RBI's in August we might not even be in this situation. So yes Corey slumped in September along with half of the other Brewer's, but Corey also carried us when Prince, JJ and some of the others were in slumps. That is why they call this a team, when someone is struggling then somebody else has to pick up the slack. Just like the Brewer's did. -
9/24/08 Pirates (Maholm) at Brewers (Sabathia): 7:05 PM CDT

Cameron 138 K Hall 121 K Braun 126 K Fielder 128 K Hardy 97 K (should reach 100 by this weekend) Hart 102 K Weeks 113 K Kendall 45 K CC I know it is a capable line up to win, but gadzooks. -
I know that Corey's walk rate is low and is probably the biggest part of his game that needs to improve. I remember when the AAA club was in Indianapolis and they did an interview with Cooper. I don't know why this stuck with me, but it did. Coop said that he wanted his players to have at least one walk for every ten at bats. that translates to 10 for every 100 and around 50 for the course of a year. With that being said I don't know if Corey will ever reach 50 plus walks, but if he did just this year alone his OBP would raise from .306 to .371. Then he would be mentioned in the same breath as Fielder, Berkman and the likes.

I know the detractors here are looking for a new beginning. Trade players sign others and reduce players playing time. But according to the Cincinnati broadcasters they have heard rumors just like everyone else. Hardy gone to make room for Escabar. Hart signed to a long term deal over the winter. If that is not the case with JJ do you believe that he is a year to year player or do we sign him long term. Year to year is probably going to cost in the neighborhood of 3.5-4 million dollars. What do you see him getting if he signed long term. I see 4 years in the 20-24 million dollsar deal and a club 5th year option around 8.5-10 million. As far as Corey goes even with his low OBP if he abertrates one year in the 3 million dolar range sounds about right to me. If they long term him I think looking at other right fielders he probably will get somewhere in the ball park of 4 years 30-35 million with a club option on the 5th year around the same as JJ 8.5-10 million. What is the lustrous panel of Brewerfan opinion on this.

What do we do with the outfield next year?
jhpc12 replied to logan82's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I think that the outfield is the least of or problems. Corey is going to be between a .330 - .350 OBP type of player. He is going to hit between .275 -.300. Be won of the top XBH year in and year out. Drive in close to a 100 runs per year. Still steal 20+ bases a year. And he is cheap, wants to stay in Milwaukee, and even thou he spoke his mind is difinitly a fan favored. His OBP has dropped in September as has everyone on the team with exception of Fielder. Corey generally has one bad month, ususally it is early in the year it just so happens to be Sept. this year. However Brauny & Cameron or definitly not lighting it up either. If it's me we look for a left handed lead off type batter with speed and put him in center field. -
I for the life of me can't figure out why so many are ready to throw Corey under the bus. He has been moved more than a family in witness protection. I watch every Brewer Game on MLB and generally the feed is from the opposing team. Every opposing club announcers to a man says the same thing. They all agree that he is a very athletic RF. They all say that Braun plays LF cautiously. He makes very few spectacular plays and generally plays a step or to deeper to make sure that he has a play on every ball. Anything over his head he gives up on and plays it of the fence for a double or more. And Cameron in my opinion has lost a step or two, but he still mans center field better than most. Just a thought from the past. If Dave Krynsel had not been such a hard head and would have used the bunt as a part of his arrsenal. LF-Braun CF-Dave RF- Corey This could have been one of the best outfields in baseball for several years
-
The line up I'd like to see is this. 2B Weeks - say what you want but for the last month he did what was needed for a lead off man / give Durham about 1/3 of starts left. 3B Counsell / Hall - use to advance the runner to second RF Hart - putting Corey 3rd gets him better pitches to hit. I know he has struggled, but some of the strike calls he gets are pathetic. Now they would have to throw to him. 1B Prince - he really is starting to hit right now. LF Braun - who better to protect Prince with than Braun SS Hardy - until last night had been making contact not a lot to show for it but usually a little bit better disciplined at the plate CF Cameron - just because he has to bat somewhere C Kendall P
-
I missed yesterday, but I think we finish out the month 15-10. That puts us at 95-67. That means that Philly has to finish 20-4 or St. Louis has to finish 21-3 just tie us. Put we down for the promise land, playoff bound, the unreachable (exuse me the reachable) dream. Man that sounds nice!

What do we do with the outfield next year?
jhpc12 replied to logan82's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
It always amazes me evey time that Corey's name is mentioned everyone wants him moved. The thought they we would ever move him from right field is just plain wrong. He has 4 outfield assist should have at least 8 if a Kendall and JJ had made the plays. One game Corey threw home Kendall swiped at the ball and Bush forgot to back up the play and he was given the error. His arm is way above average according to every announcer that does play by play. They all mention that Braun has not made any errors, but they all are also quick to say that he lays back on a lot of balls hit at him and doesn't take a chance on a lot of balls. Corey try's to make most of those plays thus sometimes resulting in an error. I just don't think that Braun is close to being a right fielder. Just leave him in left, let him learn and continue mashing the ball. -
I have watch 2/3 of the Brewer games this year and last. After every win the three outfielders run to a spot, jump, and high five each other. They did it last year too. Now the untuckem has become part of the ritual. Were they the first on the high five, I can't remember anybdy doing it before them and who actual started the untuckem. After a win they general go to the outfielders first and they are untucking their shirts.

I think this the month that we are taken seriously. With the favorable schedule, I think it very conceivable to believe that we are 18-9 for the month of August.

8/1/08 Brewers (Suppan) at Braves (James): 6:30 CDT
jhpc12 replied to wibadgers23's topic in Archived Game Threads
Corey seemed really upset when told he was going to sit a couple of days. I like that. Everybody says he sometimes goes with the flow, but I could tell Wed. after he struck out 3 times (Baun 3 times & JJ 2 times and they looked as bad as Corey's) he was really upset with himself. ESPN showed a shot of those three in the dug out with a look of disgust on their faces. What I'm saying is that Corey is not the only problem, nobody carried their weight on the home stand. So I like the fact that Ned backed down. We're facing a weak left hander and hopefully everyone will get well off of him. The line up for to night and what the did on the home stand. Weeks: 3/18 avg./.167 XBH/1 BB/ 2 K/6 RBI/0 RBI verses Cubs/0 Runners left on/5 Hardy: 3/25 avg./.120 XBH/1 BB/2 K/7 RBI/1 RBI verses Cubs/0 Runners left on base/9 Braun: 8/25 avg./.320 XBH/4 BB/2 K/9 RBI/7 RBI verses Cubs/0 Runners left on base/7 Fielder: 6/22 avg./.273 XBH/2 BB/6 K/6 RBI/2 RBI verses Cubs/2 Runners left on base/4 (both after game was already decided) Hart: 7/22 avg./.318 XBH/3 BB/2 K/7 RBI/1 RBI verses Cubs/0 Runners left on base/11 Hall; 4/19 avg./.211 XBH/1 BB/2 K/6 RBI/3 RBI verses Cubs/2 Runners left on base/7 (9th inning after game was decided) Cameron 4/21 avg./.190 XBH/2 BB/1 K/10 RBI/3 RBI verses Cubs/1 Runners left on base/9 Kendall; 2/21 avg./.095 XBH/1 BB/2 K/1 RBI/0 RBI verses Cubs/0 Runners left on base/10 Meaningless RBI's when your down 6-10 runs does not mean you are having a great or even an average series. I know that Braun & Hardy were hot early in the month, but Hardy really cooled down just like everyone else in the line up. I expect a Brewers win (7-3) and the start of a lot of new streaks. -
7/30/08 Cubs (Dempster) at Brewers (Parra): 7:05 CDT
jhpc12 replied to ELCABALLO45's topic in Archived Game Threads
This has been a very discouraging week to say the least. Brauny 3 for 11 with 6K's, Corey 3 for 12 with 6K's and Hardy 1 for 12 with 4k's. Brauny has really only hit one ball hard and that was his home run, everything else very weak. Corey has hit 4 or 5 on the nose, but has really looked like he was pressing on these and the K's. Hardy has just looked completely lost. And even though Prince is 5 for 9 his swing is ugly. I have always thought that he had one the sweetest swings in the game, but it appears to me anyway that he is trying to match Braun. Every cut it looks like he is swinging for the fence. The swing is definitely not fluid. I'm afraid he is going to go down on every cut he takes. And lastly, this series reminds me of the Boston series we look like a bunch of AAAA players in awn of the Cubs. They showed Corey, Ryan, & JJ after the game last night in the dug out and they looked beat. Usually after a loss they give the appearance of that was just one game and tomorrow is another day, but not in this series. -
I believe that Braun deserves to be a part of the all-stars, but to leave Corey out of the conversation is just crazy. His stats are every bit as good as Holliday, Lee, & Ankiel. All who are receiving more votes than Corey. I know that it is a popularity contest for the starters, but if you look at everyone else stats, Corey is in more of the top 10 categories than any other eligible outfielder. I know it's a long shot, but doesn't anybody else see the logic behind him being selected.

The "Will Corey Hart sign a new deal?" thread
jhpc12 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I believe that Corey has said that he wants to stay in Milwaukee. He is a player that family means everything to him. And the next thinks are job security and loyalty from the Brewers. I think the offer made to him in early spring was a low number. But now that the Brewers have signed Braun, he now has a bench mark to work from. The signing of Braun was probably the best thing that could have happened to Corey. I think he will arbitrate next year for somewhere in the range of 4-6 million dollars. with club working up a deal in the neighborhood of 4 years for 45-50 million dollars with a club option for the fifth year. This will put him in the upper 3rd of outfield contracts offered in the last couple of years. -
Not only can Fielder not bend from the wast over, when he does he looks like he is about to topple over. He has about a 3 foot range left or right and his defense is definitely the worst in both leagues. It is not only the job of the first baseman to field his position, but he is suppose to bail out the other infielders. Every other first baseman in both leagues can make the scope play at first 90% of the time Prince is probably 50-50 at best. Which means increased errors by our other infielders. Infielders make catches on the run, in the hole, and behind the bag so they are throwing of balance alot of the time. If you see ESPN top 10 plays of the day that is the type of plays that are made followed by a scope at first base. This year I'd give his offense a C, Defense a F - , and team leadership an F. It's obvious that he has lost that leadership role to Braun.

Just got back from an unforgettable weekend. The games didn't turn out like I would have liked, a 3-0 series sweep but would even been happy with a 2-1. NO SUCH LUCK In game #1 Soup really didn't pitch that bad. I know he gave up 4 runs in the first two innings , but really settled down after that. We never put together that one inning that gave you the impression that we were about to take charge, but we never appeared that we couldn't come back either. In game #2 Bush really pitched pretty real. I know he didn't take the loss, but he should have had the win. Defense & the bull pen were horrible. We take the lead and the first thing we do is have an error on a routine throw to first and so goes the game. If I here from my bunch of friends that we can over look Fielder's defense because of his hitting I think I'll scream. I know that occasionally the infielders make a bad throw to first and Prince doesn't have a clue on the receiving end. He made to swipes at bad throw that every other first base man in either league would have made the play, but again not Prince. I'll bet you that with Sean Casey, Derrick Lee or any other first baseman we take at least two games. I don't care how well they were hitting. In game #3 Villy is just terrible. and we did make a run to stay in the game the bull pen did us in as usual. But forgetting the games, the atmosphere at the ball park was like something I had only witnessed in fictional movies. I have been to 20 different major league ball parks, including Miller Park, and nothing compares to Fenway. The park is old, the seats are the most uncomfortable I have ever sat in, there aren't enough bathrooms, and you have to wait sometimes 30 minutes to get a hot dog or beer. But believe me it is worth it. If you are at Miller Park and the chant of "LETS GO BREWERS" starts if there are 35,000 fans about 1/2 will actually chant. At Fenway the chant of "LET'S GO RED SOX" is screamed by all 38,000 fans (excluding fans from the visiting ball club). It is so loud it shakes the stadium. At the seventh inning stretch the entire 38,000 are singing in unision, it's unbelievable. In the middle of the the eight inning when they sing Sweet Carolina it sends chills up your back. They are very knowledgable fans. When Corey lost the fly ball in the sun Saturday and caught it about six inches off the ground the fans in right field gave him a standing ovations. When Braun hit his first homerun and when Corey hit that monster shot over the lights (it was over the lights by atleast 5 feet. I was standing right at the the foul pole when it left the park) it was like they were waiting on a curtain call from our young studs. Now I know it my have been because of the outcome of the games, but I like to believe that they are just fans. I can't tell you how many times I was approached and told how good of a nucleus we had to have a great team in the near future and how impressed with the fan support we brought with us. If you have seen the movie Fever Pitch or if you haven't (go rent it) it is exactly that way at the park and in the city. Red Sox all the time. I am just thankful that I had the opportunity to witness this event and if you ever get this opportunity whether its with Brewer's or whoever believe me you will definitely regret it if you let it slip by.

There is really only one word to describe this. SAD. Six weeks into the season and it feels like the end is near. Changes have to be made before it is to late. You can't fire a team, so it time to say see you Ned. -
I might be in the minority, but I see this as a break away month for the Brew Crew. These are team that we show beat regularly Home St. Louis: 4 games (3-1) there not that good and I see them fading in May LA Dodgers: 3 games (2-1) just because we are at home Atlanta:: 3 games (2-1) there pitching staff is in worse shape than ours Houston: 2 games (2-0) just a bad team Away Chicago: 1 game (1-0) Houston: 3 games (2-1) see above Florida: 3 games (2-1) Boston: 3 games (1-2) I'll be at that series would love to win 2 of 3, just depends on pitching match ups Pittsburg: 3 games (2-1) we are just better Washington: 4 games (3-1) just a really bad team May record 20-9

Am I the only one that sees the absence of hitting by just about all the regulars. Corey, Prince, Ricky, & Billy seem to be in the worst funk. But Braun and Hardy aren't far behind.I know that Braun & JJ have had some big hits this spring, just not that many. I would have expected to see us lighting up some pitchers this Spring. Most of our runs are coming late when first line pitchers are gone and our subs are in the games. Now this is new to Prince & Ricky, but Corey and Billy always seem to start out slow and pick it up. Does anyone have an explanation or reason for this.
