  1. If we had a strong farm I would agree that this trade makes a lot of sense. We just don’t anymore though. Even if we had a strong farm system this makes no sense. This is something you hold off on until closer to spring training and if nothing better comes along and you still have a need then you pull the trigger. This isn't something you jump into in mid December. What if some deal comes along later and you're close but need that last bit of incentive to get it finished? Well, we had a pretty good incentive and just traded it for a LOOGY.
  2. Claudio just had a bad year. He's no more of a sure thing than any other reliever. He had a down year, but not a bad year. And this down year was driven very heavily by BABIP. He still crushed lefties, even last year in his down year. His LD% went up 6.4% from the previous year. His hard contact % went up 11.2%. Is it any surprise that his BABIP spiked when looking at those numbers?

  4. And we gave up a draft pick and around $2 million of our bonus pool for this. Just wonderful. World Series contender. LHRP was a need. This guy fits the window. The market is flooded with decent LHRP. Avilan Diekman Perez Sipp Take a chance that someone like Tyler Lyons bounces back. Claudio doesn't provide close to enough value to the team over some random LOOGY that we could pull from our farm system to give up what we did. Especially with a handful of decent guys on the market.
  5. Of course. Hell, you keep that pick as a possible incentive for another trade to push it over the top. Don't just throw it away for a LOOGY in mid December.

  7. This is pretty gross. Giving up a high draft pick and the associated bonus money for a guy that should only be facing at most two hitters at a time. Just sign someone like Luis Avilan and keep the pick.
  8. Ramie is good but he's being wasted at 1250. He basically just steers the other 3 idiots.
  9. If the Cavs haven't gotten the pick by 2024, they only get the Bucks 2nd round picks in 2024 and 2025.
  10. He might actually be one of the guys that takes a one year deal to hopefully have a bounce back year so he can get a multi-year deal next offseason. I don't think teams are going to be lining up to give a 32 year old early next season who just hit .215/.305/.391 a multi-year contract. The number of options at 2B help the teams and hurt the players on prices. Don't like our price? Fine, we'll just go to the next guy until somebody takes our one year offer.
  11. The good FA 2B's are going to get multi-year deals and I'd prefer to get a quality one year bridge for Hiura. Are they though? Most of the top guys are either coming off down years, old or both. Guys like Dozier, Walker, Murphy and Kinsler aren't going to command more than 2 years guaranteed most likely. Cabrera might not either.
  12. Santana was junk for the majority of last year. Are we just going to ignore that?
  13. I think it might take Hiura and Burnes. Wouldn't do it for two years of Bauer.
  14. Of course you would be cool with it because there's no way Cleveland would be good with Santana being the centerpiece of a Bauer trade.
  15. We want you to identify the type of pitch it is in a split second and we also want you to hit the ball to a specific area of the field while trying to identify the pitch. Gee, real shocker that hitters haven't mastered that.
  16. He's 26 and over 2,000 plate appearances has shown himself to be a bad defender and average offensive player and that's unlikely to change as he has made consistently weak contact every year in the majors.
  17. Stearns and Mark A. didn't want to beat the Nats offer of 6/140 for Corbin. LOSERS!
  18. While the Cardinals are giving up a pick, they are also likely to receive a higher draft pick than the one they gave up assuming Goldschmidt signs elsewhere and the Cardinals give him a qualifying offer.
  19. I guess if I was a GM I wouldn't really care if a player was close to MLB. A guy like Houser is close to MLB but out of options, so really how much value does he have to a team? If he's bad, it's not like they can just send him down to the minors without the risk of losing him and all of those guys do have a ton of holes. Ray has major strikeout problems, Dubon takes a walk once every decade, Nottingham might not be able to stick at catcher, Gatewood has a career OBP under .300. Diplan should give some of his walks to Dubon. Teams have guys like that scattered all over their system and these guys aren't going to get you much unless they're traded for a flawed MLB player or used as some secondary piece in a package that includes Hiura and/or Burnes/Woodruff/Peralta or something like that.
  20. His average velocity in games he's started in the majors is 94.3. This has ranged from a low of 93.1 to a high of 95.5. Woodruff doesn't have to be close to an ace to be more valuable than one year of Bumgarner.
  21. What specifically do you view as a strength that we have that other teams don't?
  22. It is possible that not everyone shares your opinion. Why is admitting that the farm system isn't good such a big deal? Burnes, Peralta and Woodruff have graduated. We've traded a ton of prospects over the last couple years. That tends to weaken your farm system, it's okay to admit it.
  23. His 124 OPS+ would've been 3rd on the Brewers.
  24. The 4th-8th prospect in a bad system isn't a good prospect. I don't think it's a bad system, the better upside guys are in the lower minors is all. Hopefully many take a step forward. Would also be nice if the Grisham's and Erceg's of the world finally hit at a level. It is a bad system. Every team has "better upside guys in the lower minors that hopefully take a step forward."
  25. The 4th-8th prospect in a bad system isn't a good prospect.
