I still don't think I'd make that trade today. Salary and performance wise, McCarthy and Puig have not done better than Braun over that time period, and arguably have been worse. The only potential silver lining that could have come out of the trade would be to turn around and try to trade off Puig for some minor league help. It was never about performance. It was about trading Braun before he fell off a cliff and before his 10/5 rights kicked in. If we had made that trade our books would be completely clear of Braun's contract after this season plus whatever value we would've gotten out of Puig and McCarthy.

He might have leaned on his fastball because curveballs don't work as well at altitude. I know every site you look at says it's a slider but it looked like a hard curve to me.

You don't get those guys in trades for your valuable trade pieces. That's where you sign scrubs like Nieuwenhuis types to fill that spot until a prospect or someone comes along.

No, this is Stearns. As I said before, I have no idea why he had to have Shaw in the Thornburg trade or Anderson in the Segura trade. You get those guys when you're ready to contend and have holes to fill, not in the middle of a rebuild.

It's why you should trade guys like that after their hot/career year. Just like they did with Gomez. Anderson, Broxton, Villar, Pina, Knebel, etc. Especially while rebuilding. You may get burned by one of them for trading them away, but for the most part it will be the right decision. Braun, Shaw, Santana, Guerra etc. But no, we just had to trade for major league players to make our record respectable.

To be fair, Pina, Arcia and Perez were the batters and saw about 3 more pitches than I expected them to.

Santana had a long way to go and instead of bouncing out back towards the field, it kind of stuck in the corner.

The Brewers have played 20 games against teams that aren't completely terrible. In those games they are 6-14 and have been outscored 121-50.

Pretty much everyone hits in Colorado Springs and So gard had a hot two weeks until the end of May. After that he had a .685 OPS.
