  1. My first thought was maybe the scorebug is wrong but nope.
  2. 8-1 against terrible teams. 5-8 against teams with actual talent.
  3. Say hello to the British Virgin Islands Marlins! https://deadspin.com/marlins-claim-british-virgin-islands-citizenship-in-att-1825139995
  4. The earliest game for summer baseball this year is May 23rd. State is July 20th. Spring baseball has been going on for almost a month with state June 12th-14th. Seems to me that starting in late May makes a lot more sense than having had games go on for 3 weeks already, considering the state is buried under 5-30 inches of snow currently, depending on where you are. And even when that snow melts the fields are going to be unplayable until they dry out.
  5. The Point Mallard Ducks of Decatur, Alabama have moved to Milwaukee to become the Milwaukee Power. The NA3HL team will begin play in the 2018-19 season at an undetermined location.
  6. I do not understand why the Reds are paying so much attention to Villar on 1st base right now. This goes for all teams. They keep throwing over, pitching out. There's two outs, your only focus should be on the batter and getting the final out. Even with all the attention they're paying to him, he just stole a base anyways.
  7. Not really sure you can read anything into it because it's still only 43 at bats and they've only played games so far in Detroit, Chicago and Cleveland where it's been even colder than it normally is in April. He's also started slow in several of his dominant years, so maybe it's the cold weather early on and once it starts to get warmer, he hits.
  8. I had no idea he was even on the team (apparently for 5 days!) until he came in tonight.
  9. Yeah, even with Webb and Hoover our backup bullpen options weren't very good because they were Tyler Webb and J.J. Hoover.
  10. Blue Jays send out a tweet that due to the roof, tonight's game will be played as expected. Ice falls from CN Tower onto Rogers Centre roof, damaging it. Blue Jays delete first tweet and send out another tweet how they are working with CN Tower services and Toronto Police to assess conditions and the viability of playing tonight's game.
  11. CC got ejected a lot earlier in the game. That’d be pat Murphy. Ejected managers still manage. They're just not in the dugout doing it.
  12. I've never even held a gun but these announcers make me want to shoot myself.
  13. Full screen is not actually full screen but more like 75% of a full screen. The likes and hearts constantly coming up the side are incredibly annoying as well.
  14. Remember earlier in the winter when I said I hated the way we've rebuilt. I didn't mention it then because I was too busy coming up with the other arguments but you bringing it up reminded me of it. This is another downside of collecting all of these average players, trying to compete, getting a little lucky and having an unexpected good season. You have a guy like Hader, who would be much more valuable if he turned into a 200 inning (or even a 160 inning) 3-3.5 ERA type of starter. The problem with getting all of the Shaws and Andersons of the world is you're kind of on the fringes of contention and you go out and get reinforcements like Walker and Swarzak to improve your record even more. Then the expectations of the ownership and fan base start to pick up again and you've basically cornered yourself into "go for it" mode. Now you have a guy like Hader, who should be tried as a starter with the bullpen being the fallback option if he fails but you can't really put him out there because there's a chance he's going to have several games where he goes 4 innings and walks 6 and gives up several runs and taxes your bullpen and he's too valuable to take out of your actual bullpen while you're trying to contend so you're never going to find out if he can be that poor man's Chris Sale. It's great that Stearns can find the Shaws and the Andersons but to me he found them too early. Wait until you have an established core of young talent producing in the big leagues and then supplement that talent with guys like Shaw and Anderson. You may not get the actual Shaw or Anderson but there are always players out there that a club is down on or a mechanical tweak to a delivery somebody in your front office sees that can improve a pitcher. I don't see any way Hader gets a shot at being a starter going along the path we've chosen. He's too valuable in the bullpen and they're not going to have the time to build his arm back up for 150 or more innings in a year. It's a shame, he should have gotten a shot to be a starter but I think that ship has already sailed.
  15. Down 1 mph, still giving up a ton of hard contact and nearly 28% of the contact is line drives. But hey, at least his FIP is under 4 and xFIP is under 3.
  16. Cain, Shaw, Villar, Sogard, Thames, Aguilar, Pina, Bandy, Anderson, Albers, Chacin, Drake, Hoover, Jeffress, Jennings are all Stearns. 60% of the 25 man roster is his. He had the opportunity to trade Braun but failed to. Three of the players currently on the 25 man roster were part of a lopsided trade that Stearns was in the wrong side of (Santana, Hader, Houser). One of the better pitchers on the roster (Davies) was acquired by Melvin. Two other relievers, Barnes and Williams were drafted while Melvin was still GM and both have quite a bit of talent. Suter was drafted under Melvin and is probably a decent swing man but is currently a starter because Stearns failed to get another one. Perez was under Melvin but Stearns could have DFA'd him at any time and didn't. Stearns has had plenty of time to make the roster his own. Giving him the excuse of still having "Melvin players", a few of whom are some of our better players is ridiculous.
  17. Mike and the Mad Dog on Ohtani a couple weeks ago.
  18. How much noise were Cubs fans making on those two ground balls? Almost none. You know why? Because they probably thought the first one was going to be a game ending double play and the second one they would get at least an out. They didn't start making noise until after Shaw and Thames screwed up. I love the condensed games that MLB puts on YouTube because it's just crowd noise, no announcers. Watch the 9th inning and tell me how affected you think the players were by Cubs fans making noise as those plays were happening.
  19. Go to 5:58 of the video. That Hosmer contract is the gift that just keeps on giving. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PPwb6yk9u8
  20. If the Brewers are that concerned about it and it's affecting the players that much (it's not), then they need to give away free tickets to Brewers fans. Simple as that. They're not going to do that though, because that would be stupid.
  21. No crowd noise definitely would have led Shaw to not playing the ball on an in between hop and Thames to let the ball just go to Villar. Wait, no it wouldn't have. Do you honestly think the player's are going "I hope Cubs fans aren't too loud on these softly hit ground balls so that I don't make an error?" We were 8-1 against the Cubs at Miller Park in 2011 and there were plenty of Cubs fans there that year. We were good, the Cubs were bad. We had pretty much the same record as them in 2009 (we were 80-82, they were 83-78), we went 4-5 against them. We managed to go 6-3 against them in 2016 despite finishing 30.5 games behind them in the standings and there were plenty of Cubs fans there that year.
  22. Turn that around on the Brewers then. Have them give away free tickets to Brewers fans against the Cubs with the understanding that if they sell those tickets or give them away to Cubs fans, they are banned for life. If they're that concerned with Cubs fans showing up they should have no problem doing it.
  23. Good for you. And some people don't and you don't get to tell people if they're sell outs or not because you don't like what they do with their property.
