  1. Apparently we have a CF camera now.
  2. So we lost Diaz because we needed to hang on to Rob Scahill and Scooter Gennett for an extra couple months? Cool!
  3. I can't handle Pina playing more than a couple times a week if Brian hasn't learned that his last name isn't Pena.
  4. For those that don't have MLB Network, the game tonight will be on ESPN2. It's going to be in Spanish but at least you'll get to watch it if you want to.
  5. I seriously can't believe this is an argument. 2016 Gennett 1.336 OPS in spring training Presley .952 OPS in spring training Broxton .604 OPS in spring training Villar .502 OPS in spring training 2015 3 regulars in the lineup posted an OPS of at least 1.000 in spring training (2 were over 1.250 in OPS). The finished the regular season with OPS's of .854, .820 and .717. Gerardo Parra was horrible in spring training (.657 OPS, nearly 100 points below Logan Schafer) and had an .886 OPS before we traded him. 2014 I won't bring up Braun's amazing spring training and his bad (by his standards) regular season because it was obviously the thumb. Logan Schafer had an OPS over 1.000. Lucroy had an OPS of .638 and was one of if not our best hitter in 2014. It just doesn't matter, either way. It's a small sample against guys facing live pitching for the first time in months against a lot of minor league pitchers in a good hitting environment. Some guys can get in a groove right away and inflate their stats against pitchers still working on location or working on a new pitch. Some guys take a little longer to get going and their stats take a hit. Just like I wouldn't be freaking out if Villar was having the spring training he had last year this year (I know he was in the WBC but you get the point.) Just like I'm not expecting Pina, Erceg, Diaz, Shaw, Broxton, Perez, Gennett and Nieuwenhuis to be freakin' Mike Trout like their spring training stats suggest they are.
  6. Will Smith has damage to his elbow ligament and is going for a second opinion. Guessing he heard the words Tommy John surgery in the first opinion and didn't like the sound of that. He didn't look very good last year and it looks like we traded him at the perfect time.
  7. Spring training stats mean absolutely nothing. Hell, Jimmy Nelson's last start they wouldn't shut up about how he was trying a new pitch while he was getting shelled. The Red Sox had one of the worst offenses in spring training last year and led the league in AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS and runs scored. The Mets led spring training in offense in 2015 and finished 17th in runs scored, 28th in AVG, 21st in OBP, 17th in SLG and 20th in OPS. Or look at the Brewers from the same year. 6th in spring training OPS and they finished the regular season 22nd in runs scored and 25th in OBP, SLG and OPS. If you want to think that spring training stats mean anything, that's fine, but they don't.
  8. 67 runs in the last 7 games where they've scored runs off Cy Young contenders Hisashi Iwakuma, Evan Scribner, Ryan Weber, Brett Ash, Dean Kiekhefer, Brett Anderson, Mike Montgomery, Jose Rosario, German Marquez, Rayan Gonzalez, Robbie Ray, Tyler Jones, Andrew Chafin, Enrique Burgos, Nate Karns, Eric Stout, Jake Buchanan, Felix Pena, Aaron Brooks and Jeff Samardzija. Not to mention 15% of the runs were unearned and leading the league in caught stealing is not a good thing.
  9. Badger men play for a place in the tournament tomorrow (well, I guess today) against Penn State. Winning is their only chance of getting in as those two losses to Northern Michigan and getting swept by Ohio State in the last series of the year knocked them down. Badger women play for the national title against Clarkson on Sunday at 2 pm on Big Ten Network. The Badgers beat Boston College 1-0 on a goal with 16 seconds left. Clarkson beat Minnesota 4-3 on a goal with 1:31 left.
  10. Arrowhead's coach was my favorite teacher when I was there.
  11. Erick Almonte
  12. I see no reason to waste a 40 man spot on a 33 year old with terrible peripherals.
  13. The starters were 17th in ERA, 24th in FIP, 24th in xFIP, 20th in WAR, 28th in K/BB. There's not a single thing they were even average in last year.
  14. I'd say Brinson stays in CF.
  15. Was just checking the box score and saw Michael Blazek under the Angels pitchers. I had a mini freak out about me missing a trade at some point. Then I looked at the Brewers pitchers and they have Deolis Guerra pitching for us, so I knew ESPN screwed up.
  16. I get fans of lots of teams want Braun and bloggers speculate but unless the rumor is coming from a team in California or Miami, I pay no attention to it. Those are the only places he wants to go. Could he be persuaded to go to Dallas or Houston or Washington or wherever? I suppose but he seems content here.
  17. Their defense is worse than their goaltending, which makes the goaltending look worse than it is.
  18. There were a ton of empty seats at opening day last year, even before the Giants turned the game into a blowout.
  19. That's exactly why it would've been pointless to sign Wieters. You look at the likely outcomes and sure, he could rake for half a season and some team thinks it's real and gives up a haul for him but more likely he's going to be an average or below offensive player who teams didn't want at the price tag and we're stuck with him for the entire season.
  20. Kris: You still want my bat? Greg: No.
  21. The Rays have great TV ratings. The stadium truly is the problem for them. Not only is it an awful stadium in general, it's also at the south end of the peninsula, cutting off a lot of the fan base. If they could get a park in Tampa or even more north in the peninsula in like Pinellas Park or Clearwater, attendance would improve.
  22. It's not urgent but I do like Ennder's idea of having the runner start on 2nd after the 12th. Those 15-18 or more inning games really are bullpen killers. And sure they don't happen very often but when they do, teams are left scrambling to fill in for tired players who can't pitch because they just had 50 pitches yesterday in a 19 inning game. Or they pitched for the 3rd or 4th day in a row because there was no one else left to pitch. The way around that would be 26 or 27 on a roster with only 25 active for the game but they decided not to do that. I'd prefer they just add 1 or 2 more roster spots so you can rest players throughout the season as needed without having to do a call up and then send down and then wait 10 days to recall a player but they don't seem that interested in doing that right now.
  23. We would either be carrying 13 pitches or be a man short in the bullpen. Considering how much our pitchers struggle to go 6 innings, much less 7+, I don't think going a man short in the bullpen would be something that could even be considered, so they probably have to be comfortable with a 13 man pitching staff.
  24. Gonzaga has wins against Arizona, Iowa State and are looking like they're going to get a second win against St. Mary's. Those wins are far better than what Wisconsin has. Also, struggling at home with Michigan, needing Rutgers to miss free throws to get the game to overtime and barely winning against Nebraska isn't going to impress anyone. Every single time the Badgers have played a quality opponent they've lost and haven't really been in the game at the end. For the record, I don't think Gonzaga is a #1 seed either but if they go undefeated they'll get one because the committee loves seeing no losses.
