Kirk was hurt in the beginning of September and was getting sporadic pinch hit appearances and resting hoping he could come back before the season. Suffice it to say, if he wasn't injured, what you saw the first couple of weeks after Santana came back is what you would've seen for the rest of the season if not for the injury.

I think another thing to mention is this is an incredibly weak free agent market. I haven't looked at the market next year but it would be almost impossible to have it be worse than this year. Teams are going to be looking for talent and might overpay in the trade market to get it since there are so few options in free agency. Who knows what the Sox are going to do with Sale and Quintana. Are there a ton of options out there after them? Maybe Greinke and his huge contract? Maybe Verlander and his huge contract? You have to think at least one team is going to be willing to pay for Guerra because he's cheap and was good last year. They obviously won't give us trading an ace value but maybe like a top 75 prospect and a couple of lottery tickets are possible and if it is possible, I'd take that and run.

I would take Pinto at the league minimum at 1st base to see if there's anything there with regular at bats over Carter at his price.

Young players need to play. They're not going to figure anything out by sitting on the bench. They need to actually experience tough pitching and then make adjustments to it. That's a bunch of garbage too since Nieuwenhuis wasn't good in August yet started most of the month and he continued to get most of the starts after Santana was activated off the DL on 8/19 until he got hurt and was out for the season. The only reason Santana wasn't benched for Nieuwenhuis last year was because Nieuwenhuis got hurt. Don't buy that crap about Stearns showcasing Nieuwenhuis for an August trade either. Every team in the league knows he's a backup outfielder, so taking away playing time from a young player for any marginal value you might get in a trade for Nieuwenhuis would be beyond stupid and I would hope Stearns knows that.

Yeah, when I saw the alert on the ESPN app I was like oh crap what did he do and then I looked at it completely and saw what it was for and I didn't think it was that big of a deal. Obviously not ideal but given the things that go through your mind when you hear a player is arrested (domestic violence, drunk driving etc.) this is a big meh from me.
