  1. There's no problem relying almost exclusively on draft/ develop if you draft really well. They won a SB doing that with Rodgers, Matthews, Raji, etc. He brought in Woodson which worked out well. Problem is, much like Ron Wolf, TT ran out of steam as the years went by. Nobody is going to have a perfect record on draft day, but TT had some bad drafts, and whiffed too often in the 1st round. Hard to draft and develop guys that don't even belong in the league. Then in recent years he developed this odd fascination with players from the West Coast. When you fall in love with one scout over all others, it's a problem. Agreed, I think the downfall of the packers were that, the last 3 drafts were not that good and TT had no backup plan for Rodgers going down. Jones and King will probably be good but were just rookies, but after focusing on defense the last few seasons, besides Martinez and Clark, there wasn't much there. Also after being caught with no plan in 2013 when Rodgers went down, you would think they would have a better idea than throwing out Hundley. If they had a veteran QB as a backup I think they are a playoff team even with Rodgers for the last 3/4 of the season. Look at what the Vikes did after Bradford went down.
  2. I wanted Wolf, but am happy with the hire. My only complaint on Thompson was that relied too heavily on the draft and took pride in having one of the youngest teams in the league each season. It seems like Gutenkunst will be more aggressive with free agency.
  3. I know noone is saying this but i am not assuming it is just going to Ball and its done. We do know that they were declined permission to speak to the Vikings assistant GM and Schneider and McKenkie declined an interview. Seems like if it was 100% Ball they GM search would be a little bit different. I am going to guess we will know next week, can't see this search going past next weekend.
  4. the latest bracketology on bleacher report has Marquette on of the 1st 4 outs and their KenPom is 49. They are definitely a fringe NCAA team right now and with how the big east conference is shaking out so far, some big conference wins against Xavier, Nova and Seton Hall in particular could really vault them in. Ceighton and Butler also is above MU in the KenPoms so they definitely have the chance to move up significantly. You are right, its all about guard play.
  5. When my baby was born last year at Froedert we got a free brewers onesie and blanket from the team, which was very nice. I wonder if they will do the same at Aurora. It was a super nice gesture and I try to put it on her any chance I get before she gets too big for it.
  6. The way he is playing this season, if he was 3 inches taller he would be a sure fire 1st round pick this summer. He has been by far the best player in the big east so far.
  7. it doesn't matter who the OC is, MM is calling the plays. If he is calling the plays, there isn't much for an OC to do. I would be OK if McAdoo or Philbin returns. I think it simply depends on who Aaron is comfortable with since its just a title in name only position.
  8. Regarding GM, personally I think it should be a few day process. You access if Schneider wants to come home, if he does he gets the job. If he doesn't you hire Wolf. It would be nice to get a GM in place soon before the defensive staff gets hired and I am sure most candidates will be hired within the next 2-3 weeks before the super bowl moratorium.
  9. Fangio would be a good choice. i am sure he will be quite in demand, but maybe the chance to stick it to the bears would be enough to get him here.
  10. The only bad news about the Thompson move is that it would be very unlikely that any of the top 3 internal GM candidates would return if passed up for the top job. My preference is Wolf only because of past reports of internal strife within the organization regarding free agents. I also saw a list of top coaching candidates and ick. I would hope the new GM would give MM a season with a new defensive staff and see what happens. https://www.sbnation.com/2017/12/31/16825890/nfl-head-coach-candidates-2018. None here move the needle. Regarding the D-Coordinator. I would hope they go for a young coordinator, like Carnell Lake rather than just go for Fox or Del Rio. I also think the Jim Leonard talk is silly, and wouldn't even be a fan consideration if he wasn't a local kid coaching UW. Interesting 24 hours at 1265 Lombardi Ave for sure.
  11. I think it has to be Cobb. I can't see them getting rid of Nelson.
  12. for those that think this is a good decision, you are going to play for free for a season instead of making millions of dollars in the NFL. If you are as good as NFL scouts think you are go to the browns and play well and you can leave after 4-5 seasons. Most top rookie quarterbacks end up in bad situations and its not like the Giants are a significantly better one (Id argue a worse one).
  13. its not legal in wisconsin either. I had one similar that I got from the team store and actually got pulled over for having it. you would have to put it over your front plates I believe.
  14. Well they have a new GM and if he can turn it around he would be a hero in Cleveland forever.
  15. https://sports.yahoo.com/josh-rosen-might-stay-ucla-avoid-drafted-browns-161252204.html I know this has been out for a few week, but saw the article come through again today. To leave a full years salary on the table and a have to wait an additional season to hit free agency because there is a chance that the browns take you is dumb I haven't really started looking at mock drafts but i think there is an equally good chance Darnold gets taken #1 and an outside chance its Barley. Also If Im Dorsey, I would just take Darnold anyway rather than avoid the drama with Rosen. I hate it when college players pull what Manning did and it appears what Rosen is doing.
  16. From McCalvy If he makes the team, i think it has to be of a Long Reliever / spot stater. At that money, I think its a great deal for the brewers, knowing that if he struggles in the spring the brewers are on the hook for zero.
  17. Game, set, match Isn't Hammonds a much worse signing than Stubbs?
  18. Matt Garza had a WAR of -0.8 in Milwaukee, He had a good first season and not much there after. Riske was a much worse signing. Its just that he never really played his last 2 years here and its not as recent. But its not close. I'd argue Soup was a worse FA signing over Garza. This is why I didn't want the brewers to sign Arietta, because he would end up in the Soup / Lohse / Garza category. Chacin, no matter what he does here will not.
  19. officially 2 years / 15.5MM. I am OK with the contract. Whoever posted the game by game numbers yesterday eased my concern, he had 3 really bad starts but pitched OK on the road except for that.
  20. Bleacher Report has it as Gagne for the brewers. I have to disagree, while it is easy to say Soup, Garza, I have to say David Riske. I looked up his numbers just to be certain and the 3 year deal is far worse than the 1 year deal that Gagne signed with the team. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2750124-every-mlb-teams-biggest-free-agency-fail-of-the-past-decade edited title, because we're not talking about free agents that sing. And it bugged me. Bah humbug to you, too
  21. Not sure what the giants are doing. They are not close to contending. Longoria doesn't put them even close to LA and they gave away their best prospect in doing so when they have a weak farm system. He also isn't very good anymore.
  22. You mean that one year that he wasn't in Colorado? His numbers look like a solid, serviceable guy. I'm not familiar with what he throws. Also, this isn't a done deal yet. Closing in on an agreement... 2017 Home 9-3 1.79 ERA Road 4-7 6.53 ERA ugh, i am sure the petco numbers got him paid too
  23. I agree with you on Drury, my point was that my opinion on Barnes isn't that high either. I would prefer just to let Villar and Sogard split time over there
  24. that website also recommended a Drury for Barnes trade. I would personally do that https://reviewingthebrew.com/2017/12/17/milwaukee-brewers-trade-drury/?utm_source=bleacherreport&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=bleacherreport although I do not think 2nd base is a priority and would rather focus on improving the pen and rotation.
  25. aren't there better places to use our resources than catcher? I can't see atleast one of our top guys having to be used to make this trade.
