  1. I think there are many facets that cause this problem. First of all the community leaders of the inner city do not act like true leaders. I'm talking about Junior and Senior McGee, Lee Halloway, Elizabeth Coggs - Jones, etc. Until leaders speak out against crime and actually do something about it instead of holding a rally at the site of shootings and saying how things are going to be different only to have another slain a few days later, the problem will say. Secondly children in the inner city are more likely to come from broken houses which really hinders them from growing up in a stable environment. When you grow up and never see your dad or he has 3 children with 3 different women, it can't be a good thing. Thirdly MPS does not help them. It may be that they just don't want to learn but there was a story in the paper a few weeks back that actually said there is a good number of high school freshman that have the reading ability of a 3rd grader. You are totally unemployable if that is the case and you will never get out of the inner city. Throw in the gang presence in the inner city and you see that as Russ said this is not a simple problem and children have been failed by so many people.
  2. part of me would say chicken, minus i think i'd get sick of it, so i am going to go with pig only cause there is more variety.
  3. the tax climate in this city is far more damning than one exec being murdered outside of a bar.
  4. ebay is a good way to go
  5. all right i have spoke out on the tax climate in this state, but to propose a video game tax in order to raise the the age that someone can be charged as an adult from 17 to 18 for not violent crimes. Personally i buy about 4 games a year which means this will cost me less than 5 dollars. link I understand there are certain services that are required and a tax increase is an easy to way accomplish them. Even raising some taxes like the cigarette one to create some stop smoking programs, i am not in favor of, but i see the merits. To do this one (1) raises a tax that has nothing to do with the ends and (2) makes the state a more dangerous one. I just don't get it. I think this will only allow gangs to find more 17 year old to commit crimes for them with minimal penalties.
  6. Kosuke is a huge question mark so it's probably too early to compare him to hart since nobody knows what they are going to get out of him. From past experience's its likely he will struggle out of the game with the improved and unknown pitching he will face as compared to what he saw in Japan. I agree with Brian i'd but soto ahead of Kendall but Fielder is higher than Lee. Braun may very well be on par with Rameriez. I still am not a fan of Ned's idea of moving Braun to cleanup to allow him steal bases. He struggled last season when Ned did that to him. The protecting that Fielder brings really seemed to help him.
  7. it is my understanding that you will not.

  9. for those that call this free money, its not really free money. Its a rebate. It is our money. I'd rather have them issue the checks than allow politicians to use it how they see fit. The one thing that confuses me is how can they call this a tax rebate if people that do not pay taxes get one.As far as talking politics i have said this before, this is not only the message board on the internet, go find a political one and talk or call in a radio program and talk all the politics you want. I do like the off topic section but first and foremost this is a baseball website.
  10. I do not like the idea of making hall switch positions again 25 games into the season. He hasn't played 3rd in a year and he will most likely need a little time to readjust. I have been a fan of Koskie's since he was on the twins and would like to see him again in a brewers uniform, but at this point i think Dillon has earned a chance to be the full time backup to Hall and Prince at 3rd. This is the same stance on had when the possibility of bringing back Cirillo came up.
  11. i am getting the show and it will be in stores on the 4th, you are right. I played some 2k7 and the game had too many bugs in it.
  12. besides playing mlb 07 the show with an updated roster every once and a while, i got nothing.
  13. i think its going to be hardy. I just don't see him improving on his first half numbers last season. I do not think you can say Gagne, since expectations are not that high for him i believe due to his performance in Boston.
  14. i had it and canceled it. It was nice during baseball season. At home and work i found that aol radio was just as good as xm and free.
  15. my cat likes to sleep under it for the entire month of december, but never tried to climb up it.
  16. i agree on reyes. He has upside. I wouldn't do a cappy for reyes trade straight up. But his ceiling is high enough to take a flier over franklin or flores. He has definately had his moments when he was on, just doesn't happen too often.
  17. ick, i have never been a fan of reyes. I know he is young, but he has 2 seasons to do something and he has yet to do much.
  18. the great thing about this trade is that we don't give up that much and we address needs. I also think that capuano will bounce back but we have enough depth to absorb the loss. Gwynn is over valued i believe and mench really doesn't have a future with the team. You can move Braun to left. Gross could be the 4th OF and then you just need to find a backup outfielder. You can also let Dillon be the 5th backup, and that would allow you to find another utility infielder. Maybe even bring back Cirillo. It makes us stronger and gives the cards pieces they are looking for.
  19. Madtown, was there any mention of the cards picking up any part of rolen's salary in that. I'd do Flores and Rolen, for cappy, mench, and gwynn. I'd hope Jenks goes to San Deigo, only cause he would come to town once and he'd have a chance to go to the playoffs which he deserves to go.
  20. if thats true, that is sad. I can't believe he was our starting catcher. The nats have no starting caliber catcher and still would not take estrada
  21. i could see estrada being non-tendered and this move was just a way for the mets to purge themselves of Mota.
  22. yeah thats a great trade for the mets. you have to wonder about jim bowden.
  23. al, I am fine with giving Herges say a 2 year 5 million contract. He has been pretty consistent in his career, minus 1 season. I still think Riske is the better choice. I was just pointing out his age. I really didn't know until today that he was as old as he was since he has only been in the league for 8 seasons.
  24. do we really want to commit 2 years to a player that will be 38 on the day after opening day.
  25. i think its too early to make assumptions on what happened. I will say its safe to say that living in Miami may not of been the best idea. Since he was turning his life around and by all accounts maturing since entering the league, possibly moving his family to DC or Tampa or something and away from his "boys" might of prevented this. It will all come out later, so now the best thing to do is to pray for the family.
