Bush was disappointing, and I would have been tempted to yank him earlier...it is a common issue with Bush and Yost IMO. But there's truth in the statement above, that innings from your starting pitchers are a crucial thing over the course of the season. Yost has to play for the whole season, and has surely been read the riot act by Melvin after burning his pen early last year.

Now the pen is pretty well-rested at this point, with Turnbow, Shouse, and McClung having yet to appear this season...you could easily get four innings out of those guys I would think and it's almost to the point where they need the work one way or the other. And the schedule is pretty forgiving early. So I might have pulled Bush no matter what, but you can certainly argue the opposite case.

Hey, some life!

So reading this any team that doesn't go 162-0 doesn't have it. You need not only "expect it," you've got to get it.

I like it! Although I don't think a team has gone 162-0, correct me if i'm wrong. And I would put killer instict together with WS contention, not a win total. I simply said 85-90 wins was not enough for me, killer instinct aside and not included in that comment.

Pfft. I was really hoping to get another run back there, at least.

Hopefully D-Bow doesn't D-Blow this one out, I wouldn't mind another crack at Wood. I'd have felt better 1 or 2 down though.

You can't win every game, but it should be very rare that your manager puts you in a position where you're less likely to win.

Today didn't seem like "just one of those days." Yost sending Bush out for another inning might have been (and could still be) the difference.

Given the offense went to sleep after the first, and didn't wake up until the 8th, I don't think that made any difference.

Question: did the 79 loss World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals have killer instinct

What bugs some people I think is the suggestion that anyone is less of a fan if they accept a loss and dont start throwing office furniture when the team doesn't sweep.

So it's possible to be in the playoffs, but not be in World Series contention, because you don't have killer instinct? Can you not make the playoffs and still have killer instinct? Are there different levels of killer instinct?

the 116 - 46 Mariners had no killer instinct because they lost in the playoffs.

I was thinking about that team too. It was either an anomoly, or killer instinct is mysterious and bogus. Could be both, in which case my last 5 or so posts were nothing more than frustration-laced drabble. Maybe not. I'll play it like Ned yesterday. When asked if this series is bigger because its against the Cubs he replied, "No... well yes, i'm not gonna say no." Classic.

So the only way to have killer instinct is to win the World Series?

That, plus ya gotta expect to do it.
