10.01.06 - Brewers (CV) @ Cardinals (Reyes) 1:15 PM

The Brewers make their only October appearance today as they try for win number 75.

Carlos Villanueva (1-2, 3.97) hopes to further build his case for making the 2007 starting rotation.

Anthony Reyes (5-7, 4.68 ) and the St. Louis Cardinals have a shorter-term goal in mind today, as a STL win or HOU loss clinches the NL Central championship for the home team. Reyes, who will be working on three days' rest, gets the nod in a late decision over Chris Carpenter, whom the Redbirds are saving for either the playoffs or other possible division-clinching needs.

Come on, Brewers. Let's not have a loss greeting us on the bf.net home page for the next (sigh) six months.

Edited to reflect the change in starting pitcher.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

The Cardinals could be playing the first of four possible last games of the season (today, tomorrow, Tuesday, elimination game of a playoff series). Let's hope Villy can make them sweat it out, and cement his rotation spot for next year.

Foxsports is reporting that Anthony Reyes will start today on three days rest instead of Chris Carpenter. The Cardinals want to save Carpenter for the playoffs (or the makeup game if needed)

Foxsports is reporting that Anthony Reyes will start today

As is brewers.com now. I've edited the starting post accordingly.

Thanks, Tony L. Make my season-ending IGT starter post inaccurate. Just another reason for me not to like him!

EDIT: As I looked at the MLB standings today, it finally, really hit me that 85-86 wins will be enough to clinch the NL Central this year. Man oh man.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

We haven't had terribly good luck with Reyes, so this probably works to the Cards advantage.

I'm beginning to wonder if last year's team in this year's National League would have the opportunity to clinch the NL Central today. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

That being said, let's play spoiler today, Crew. And Go Astros!

Scoreboard watch:

Astros are already down 2-0 in the third.

Well I hope we can end a sour year on a up note and get a win. I am a little dissapointed Cirillo is not starting what could possibly be his final game as a Brewer, good to see Jenks in there for the same reason. And I hope I don't see Mench at any point today.

I still get a kick out of seeing Aaron Miles attempting to impersonate a SS. It's even better than Eckstein trying to play the position.

Yeah but even if Miles makes 4 errors at SS in a game he's earned the right to play because he's a battler.

Oh wait nevermind he doesn't play for the Brewers.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I'm betting that Ned makes sure Jeff finishes the game.

Often, in the final game, starters are replaced early. With the importance of this game to the standings, I wonder if that will happen.

Astros are still down 3-0 in the 5th, but we're trying to help 'em.

Keep piling on the runs guys!

I really am starting to warm up to a potential outfield of Hart in left, Gwynn in center, and Jenkins in right. I think if we stick with what we've got, that's a solid outfield.

Wow, that was a quick hook.

I agree! And wow Bell has been red hot down the stretch.
