I know this is extremely early to start an in-game thread, but this is my first one and Tomokazu is on the mound...

MLB.com scouting report

Williams, acquired in the offseason from the Pittsburgh Pirates, threw well in his first start but took a loss after allowing three runs (two earned) in six innings. Williams' second start did not go so well. He allowed six runs (all earned) on six hits, including two home runs, over three innings in a loss to St. Louis on Saturday.

Ohka picked up his first victory of the season on April 15 at New York, pitching seven strong innings against a red-hot Mets lineup. In seven innings, Ohka allowed two runs (one earned) and five hits, walking two and striking out five. He is 4-2 in his career against the Reds.

with williams being another lefty any thoughts on what the brewer line-up will be tonight ? i am sure hall will be in there but i'm hoping ned isn't going to be sitting prince again tonight. sure is nice to be back at home. brewers are 9-3 in ohka's last 12 starts

I think Prince is back in the line-up. I haven't seen his early splits yet, but it doesn't seem like he's completely outmatched vs lefties. Maybe his PH last night against a lefty was the icing. Would be a great game to sit Jenks and have Hart play RF...if he was still in Milwaukee that is. Everyone in the IF has had a day off recently, so I would think we would see the standard line-up.

Looking at the opponents and pitching match-ups, I think I will be disappointed with less than 5-2 on this homestand. I think we can/should take 3 from the Reds and 2 from the Braves. I suppose 4-3 will be alright, but a bit disappointing.

As if the Brewers haven't faced enough explosive offenses lately, the Reds come in with the top ranked offense in the NL. It's early, I know, but concidering the Reds also finished 2005 with the #1 ranked offense, their not to be taken lightly. Their pitching also hasn't been a complete disaster so far this season.

Is this game televised? I don't see it listed anywhere.

Adam Dunn vs. Tomo scares the heck out of me. I think he could get one on the Dew Deck. Lets keep the bats going. Time for Rickie to really lay into one. He's got a good average, but hasn't really been lacing into the ball.

I, for one, would like to see Prince back in the lineup tonight. I am fine with him sitting against the really tough lefties as it is good to have a day off once in a while. Williams is far from a great lefty and what I saw of Prince in the minors he has a very solid apporach against the lefties. I expect him to hit the righties better but I think he will do fine against the lefties. It is situations like this that make me wonder why they sent Corey down when they did. Yesterday and today would have been great oppertunities to get him a start at first yesterday and then a start today for Jenkins. DLing Kolb would have been a much better option IMO. I really don't want to see Corey rot in AAA.

"For those who are wondering, Prince hits .333 (5-15) against lefties with with an OPS of .975. Limited plate appearance but he seems to be holding his own."

If you look at his career numbers, his stats against LHP are better than against RHP.

On a related note, I saw this comment from fantasyguru.com's Scott Pianowski about Fielder: "He needs to clobber right-handed pitching because he hasn't figured out lefties yet.." which I don't understand whatsoever. (link)

How did we get Jose Capellan again?

I know that it was from the Braves, but refresh my memory....who did we give up?

Kolb trade.

Posted

That's my kind of deal.

Trade Capellan for Kolb, activate self-destruct button on Kolb, reclaim from scrap heap, rebuild into top-shelf reliever.

It's the picture of effective management!
