Bill Castro fired, Bosio called up

I'm intrigued by Bosio, he seemed to really connect with Parra via the audio interviews. When Manny would start messing around Bosio was out of the dugout in a hurry calming him down and telling him what to throw on the next pitch to get out of the inning. He was working quite a bit with Salome on his game calling as well so he's willing to attack pitching from all angles.

The timing of this is garbage though. Has Castro really done a worse job with the pitchers than Macha has done managing them? Is there a single solid reason why Yo was leading the league in pitches per start as recently as a couple of weeks ago given his recent past? (I haven't checked in a while) I realize I'm in new territory here actually piling on a manager as I typically ride the other side of the fence, but Macha has been just as questionable as any of his coaches and his players this season.

The team was sucking, and everyone was screaming for changes to happen.

I don't think anyone was screaming for:

1.) Castro to be fired

2.) Hardy to be optioned to AAA

3.) Bourgeois to be called up.

DFAing Hall probably was screamed for.

or that Melvin is desperately trying to save face? How about they are making fairly logicial (albeit aggressive) moves to try to salvage the season and/or see what they have for next season

Castro didn't even get close an entire season, and the move comes on the heels of a 22-hit thumping -- which makes it seem awfully desperate. At some point, a GM can only discard so many coaches and managers before the blame finds him.

On a side note, if anybody has time, I'd be kind of curious to see a tally of all of the hitting/pitching/outfield/infield/base coaches the Brewers have fired during Melvin's tenure.

I just wondering who everyone wanted besides Castro to be our Pitching Coach.

Castro was saddled with a terrible Rotation and his bullpen ended with a bunch of Journeymen.

My question why is our 3rd base coach who has no business being there still with this team

Yeah that is the biggest mystery yet I still don't know why he is still around with all the mistakes he has made this year. Not sending guys when he should have sent them and sending guys when he shouldn't have sent them.

Somebody must have finally gotten those pictures that he had of the Seligs back....

Probably a nice, local guy, but I never understood what he did to stick around forever and then become the pitching coach. I never thought that anyone would outlast the tenure of Larry Haney, but Castro blew it away. Did you know that this is the first time I believe since 1974 that the Brewers haven't had either Castro or Haney in uniform? Mind boggling.

Bosio has worked his way up as a pitching coach, and has MLB experience. Not that it matters, but he is also 'local', I believe.

Maybe Castro can step in for Augustine on FSN next year. Augustine is horrible.

I wonder if Roger Caplinger is the next guy to get the axe. This team has seemed plagued by injuries in recent years, and the Bush and Sheets misdiagnoses really stick out in my mind.

Cause he's from McFarland? My guess is that if this team continues to circle the drain, Macha and all of these guys will be gone, and Sveum or Randolph will be managing- possibly before the end of the season. These are likely just the first moves.

The reality is they are probably "re-assigning" Castro. Look for him to appear in some capacity within the organization after the season.

I actually like Hardy being optioned as frankly I don't trust Dale Sveum and I think Hardy may have a chance to turn things around under Sandy Guerrero.

I'm really surprised that that Castro got it before Sveum did, and that Hall got cut before Kendall did. Hall was flexible defensively, hit lefties well, and seemed to be on the uptick from his earlier minor league experience.

Well who do you blame for basically not one pitcher on the roster showing great improvement from last year. Is it just bad luck?

Every single pitcher on the team is pitching worse than expectations except for a couple bullpen guys I guess. While I have no reason to believe Castro specifically is the problem I see enough evidence to suggest that if the people running things think he isn't doing a good job they probably have a good reason.

Mike Maddux?
He wasn't coming back and I doubt he would have done any better than Castro did and he would have cost more while getting about the same production from this pitching staff.

And I wonder how much of the blame for that the front office puts on Kendall?

I see this as much of a promotion for Bosio, who they think highly of, as a demotion/firing of Castro. Bosio, whether or not he deserves it, is getting alot of credit for Parra turning things around. Many in MLB see Bosio as a potential future manager.

The bottom line is that almost every pitcher on this staff has pitched below expectations and in the case of Parra well below. The pitching coach does have to take responsibility when his staff fails as badly as this staff has.

I really hope Castro's just being re-assigned. If any coach needed to be dismissed, it would have to be Fischer. Hall being DFA'd is a miracle. Escobar starting at SS now? Count me in as excited for that. I hope Hardy gets things together, and maybe we can find another suitor for him in the offseason. As much as I'd hate to see him go, there's another guy waiting, and there's simply no room for him. I don't know much about Bourgeois, but I suppose it's worth a shot.

We should be calling Bosio up to pitch...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

What exactly did Castro do to deserve sticking around? I realize it's probably not the most fair way to judge him, but last year our starters pitched well and the bullpen sucked while Castro was the bullpen coach. Now he's the pitching coach, the rotation sucks and the bullpen has been great. If a pitching coach is judged on how his pitcher's pitch, then he doesn't look very good.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.

Just goes to show that you have to be careful which job you take as a MLB coach/manager.? You are the fall guy.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Can you say scapegoat? Wow. A completely unnecessary move that I imagine was ordered or strongly suggested by Attanasio. Its disappointing that after almost two decades in the organization, Castro is fired for a couple months of bad pitching from a pitching staff that was expected to be average at best.
