Computer Problem

My work computer keeps on locking up. Almost only when I have Internet Explorer open, and I walk away from it for a while. I did notice a black bar running accross the top one time. Anyone have a clue on how to rectify the situation? Sick of having to restart my computer 3-4 times throughout the day.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling flash (if you have the ability to do so)

It's amazing how much trouble Flash causes. Steve Jobs has been quoted as saying that Flash is the number one cause of Macintosh crashes.

 

Apple refuses to allow Flash on iPhones, iPods, and iPads. The company's feeling is that it's totally replaceable via HTML 5.

Is there any other type of Flash than Adobe? That still didn't fix the problem, worked well for about 3 hours then the same thing

I don't know of any Flash substitute.

 

What happens if you remove Flash entirely (for troubleshooting purposes)? That way, you'd be able to confirm if it's the cause of your problem or not.

Forgot about this, but I also get random extra screens that pop up for free Walmart coupons. Think that this is a virus, Have AVG on the computer, should this just take care of itself, or do I have to find it somewhere?

Definitely sounds like a virus or at least some spyware/adware. Try running a program like Spybot, and have AVG run a scan.

 

I would also recommend to stop using IE and switch to Firefox or Chrome. Seems like IE allows junk to get onto your PC more easily, at least in my experience.

A lot of the software that we use remotely is only able to be run on IE. I would rather use Firefox. I've already run AVG, and Maleware bytes, doesn't seem to do much. Is it possible that it is something just with IE? Like a virus embeded just in that program? Sorry, not super intellegent when it comes to computers

It could be-do you have any search bars on IE with branded search engines?

 

If you get rid of Flash lots of sights will then use MS's Silverlight as a backup.

I have been having some issues with my laptop lately I wanted to ask about. When the computer is not plugged in, it dies when the little indicator in the bottom right says the battery life is at about 70% or so. Normally I'd just assume that I need a new battery, but before I spend one hundred and some odd dollars on one I wanted to make sure that it couldn't be something else. The Battery I have now is already a replacement and cant be more than a year old. And if the battery was really draining that quickly, wouldn't the indicator in the bottom right tell me so instead of shutting off when it says the battery level is at 70%?

Yes it only does it when its off the charger. And it won't turn back on until I plug it back in.

I don't think that is happening. I actually had that problem before where it was shutting off because it was over heating and I have been much more cognizant of that problem. After it first started happening I took the cover off and cleaned it out some with an air blaster but that didn't seem to have much of an affect.

I would guess it probably is the battery. Do you leave your laptop plugged in constantly? I know that can decrease the life of the battery rather quickly.

Apple recommends that if you leave your notebook plugged in constantly, you should drain your battery once a month. Other brands are probably similar.

I am thinking it probably is the battery. Thanks for the help. I bet the last one I bought was cheap and just took a dump on me because the battery life seemed to go from 2 hours to about 30 minutes with nothing in between.

Do you have the specific name of the hijacker? There are a lot of different ones. All are trojans, but each one is different.

 

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, if you do a full scan, should find it. If not, you'll have to google the specific malware you have and remove it manually. You can also try SUPERAntispyware. I've had good results with that as well.

Does anyone know how you can remove a malware program called "Windows Remedy" without having to pay for a new program to do it? I've run both Windows Defender and Webroot Antivirus but neither seemed to get rid of it.

I've never run into this one. It seems that fake AV is the malware of choice these days. Hear about a new one everyday.

 

Here are some instructions on it. Not sure if you've already tried this...it might take some time. Google is your friend with these things. Pretty much all these malware programs will have some removal step-by-steps out there somewhere. Don't purchase any removal programs..I've never had to buy anything to remove crap like this and I do it quite often.

Doing what DKM recommended should work. I've had success getting rid of malware with the program malwarebytes anti-malware before (the program referenced in that fix).

So I just bought a new laptop and I downloaded Itunes. Can someone tell me how I can put all the songs from my Ipod Shuffle into the Itunes library on my new computer?

One other step, set itunes to auto handle your file names and auto-organize your folders and it will rename the files to the correct names.

Ok, another computer problem here. I got an update request for Firefox and without thinking much I accepted it. I then managed to have E-Set downloaded without any other prompts. For those that haven't seen E-Set...WHAT A NIGHTMARE! I managed to get it deleted by going to route of safe mode and deleting the files associated with E-Set. Now though, I cannot open Google Chrome, Firefox, IE (on my work computer right now). I save the Firefox Set-up to an external drive and installed it on said computer without any luck. I keep getting an info box stating "Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Any help here? I'm DYING w/out that computer!
