Womens softball

Does womens softball bother anyone else? I guess I have mainly just noticed because it has been on alot because of the WCWS. I am very much alright with T.V. time. What really bothers me is that a team only has to use 1 pitcher if they want. That girl from Tenn. is just mowing everyone down. Not very exciting to watch. If they had to rotate pitchers and use 2 I would not be nearly as bothered by the sport. For example, the other day I saw a game with 3 hits and 1 error. The team that won, won with 1 hit. It had scored its run without any hits at the time. This is kind of a vent, but I am curious if anyone else thinks the same or if I am being rediculous.

I find it funny many players seem to have .300 and even .400 BA's, yet no one hardly ever scores.

And Jennie Finch is certainly the exception not the rule. Many are cute and athletic, but few are sexy.

I'm a pretty big fan of Arizona's starting pitcher today..easy on the eyes, and killer changeup too.

Aside from that, I have negligible softball knowledge.

I enjoy watching, especially when teams from Texas are playing. Man, every college sporting event--men's or women's--in Texas has plenty of women that are easy on the eyes. Good looking athletes...man that's fun to watch

I am amused by how tall Tennessee's starting pitcher is compared to everyone else on her team--that and the fact she's left handed. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Maybe she would make a better LOOGY than Brian Shouse.

I don't mind that the same person starts almost every game. If they are that good, let them.

The only thing I'm annoyed by is the team yelling from the dugout trying to rally a player on. It seems sort of distracting.

I spose most of your statements are well and wise. I must have just been disgruntled by the amount of K's coupled with the lack of offense here. And yes, Finch WAS great to look at.

A couple things bother me,

-the little girls that take the running start and just slap the ball into the ground, for some reason that just seems bush.

-This goes for little league too, after a strike out they go running back to the dugout, i dont want them to throw a hissy fit, but you can act somewhat disappointed.

-I would say all of the lame chants and hug fests in the game, but College baseball has the same thing too.

Ah yes I knew I was forgetting one, this is it. By the time the weak ass ground ball gets to the fielder the batter is about 5 feet from 1st base.

From what I can tell, women's college softball is 50% cheerleading and 50% softball. That said, if I were a coach, I'd have every player bunt for a hit every time. Unless you have Johnny Estrada's sister batting, I'd think it would be impossible to not get on base with the short distance to first.

they should move the pitchers mound back a few feet, that would probably create more offense. I think I saw a stat where this girl was 50-6 this year or something like that.

They had a timer on Sportscenter last night. The amount of time it took for the ball to leave the pitcher for Tennessee's hand and reach homeplate was .42 seconds.

I'm not really interested in women's softball right now, but I've got a 5-year old who can mash, so I might be interested in a few years.

Try to get a tryout at 2nd base with the Brewers. It will only be for a few weeks until Weeks comes back but a little experience never hurt.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I would just hope that she turns out to be hot (sexy) otherwise nobody will care if she's good enough athlete to go to college for free.

Look I used the blue.

College for free sounds good to me.

I am glad someone else noticed this. While I haven't watched any of the games, I do catch the scores from time to time. Always 17 k's and 1 hit or a no hitter, or blah blah. But I guess it comes down to this. There are fewer elite players and teams in women's sports and these same teams that get to the world series every year beat up on other teams all year. Then when the good teams get together its basically a games of scoring on errors and the few hits that occur. Not very exciting if you ask me. It would be nice to have a 10-8 game sometime instead of the 2-0 game on 3 hits.

I play men's fastpitch softball, and also played high school and amateur baseball. Although the basics of the game are the same, fastpitch and baseball are two totally different games. Fastpitch is a pitcher's game. Period. The motion of a fastpitch pitcher is less stressful to the arm (more natural motion), so pitchers can throw multiple games in a day (three or four is common, I believe the most I've seen was six). They say that a hard-throwing fastpitch pitcher would be comparable to a 110 mph fastball in baseball, when taking the shorter distance into account. I haven't done the math myself, but having faced some excellent pitchers, I believe it.

If you're interested in watching some men's fastpitch, there are several leagues around the state, and tournaments every weekend. Inbox me for more info if wanted.

After watching 4 years of women's college softball because my sister played, I can honestly say it's my least favorite sport. I didn't mind the pitching thing, but the constant cheerleading and all the different cheers drove me nuts. Thankfully my sister's team wasn't big on that, but it was brutally annoying just the same.
