What a fantastic game. Greinke deserved to win and did, Sale didn't deserve to lose and didn't. Would have rather seen Greinke pitch the 10th, but all is well that ends well

It's a stupid way of thinking. Coaches/managers are brainwashed with dealing with pitch counts, rest days, how many innings, etc....

That's an interesting opinion and I would say it's the complete opposite of conventional thinking on this issue. Most would say that cruising through quick innings is easy on the arm and that it is the long innings with high pitch counts that are difficult.

Actually I would agree with Roenicke on this one, and this is coming from a guy who thinks that pitch counts are pretty much bunk. Cruising through innings is easy on the arm, but sitting for ten or fifteen minutes and restarting is not. Regarding pitch counts, I don't understand why 100 is a magic number. In the later innings, the difference between 100 and 120 is two or three pitches an inning.

I think that's asking a lot of Roenicke to send Greinke out for a 10th inning, when he hasn't thrown a complete game while with the Brewers. It's not just pitch count, it's warm ups and rest. Granted, he probably would have been fine and was indeed cruising, but can you imagine the backlash if ZG woke up with a tweaked shoulder today? I'm with RR on this one.

 

Ax may be struggling, but their bed is made. They need to sink or swim with the guy. He's still their best option.

Greinke had gone over 100 pitches in 9 of his 14 starts before last night. I imagine he would've had a short leash had he come out for the 10th, and probably deservedly so. It would've been silly to be mad at Roenicke for any potential injury because he threw 110-115 pitches, which he's done numerous times throughout his career without any arm injuries.
