The ball was tipped by the batter. You can see it bounce on the ground. That is why the catcher missed it.

 

I come back to this because it's soo funny. And I don't see the batter tip the ball. I see it glance on the catcher's mitt and continue straight in to the family jewels.

 

I still question why he positions himself left of center and not closer to take cover from the catcher.

And since I was not in the Fox viewing area for the Brewers-Cardinals game today I had to watch it via Gameday and this was my reaction to the final out.
