Marquette must win tomorrow to escape the dreaded 8/9 gauntlet.
I think Marquette is a lock for an 8 or 9 seed unless they win the Big East Tourney.

They were a 10 seed today in the espn and cnnsi brackets and a 9 in the foxsports. A win against an NIT bound St. Johns team will not bump them up much. They will be a solid 8/9 if they win one or two.

Stepping aside from the state teams for a moment...I really enjoy Championship Week. When we finally got cable in 1993, it was installed just in time for the start of Championship Week, and I was immediately enthralled with watching all those non-major conference foes battle each other, fans going crazy and storming the court sometimes, knowing they're going to be a 16 seed and fodder for Duke or whoever in a few days but still fully enjoying the moment.

I even made up my own Championship Week chant (more applicable to the beginning of the week): "You're-the play-in (clap clap clap-clap-clap)."

#8 seed Georgetown knocked #1 seed Syracuse out of the Big East tourney today 91-84. I hope Marquette can pull off another upset.

Great win! DJO was awesome, and Hayward was his normal self, but I think the key was Cubillan's D on Scottie Reynolds. I've never seen Reynolds frustrated like that. Now comes a winnable game against Georgetown. They can play their way off the 8/9 seed, if they haven't already.

i wish i could have watched that game. oh well. i hope the game tomorrow is on at night (which is should be)

man, a 7 seed would be amazing!

West Virginia is the best team from the bottom of the bracket, but Pitt always seems to play really well in the Big East Tournament. I'd still bet on MU meeting WVU, if Marquette gets past Georgetown of course.

Earlier on the bottom line of ESPN for "The Lead" it said: "Marquette stuns Villanova in Big East Quarterfinals." How stupid do you have to be to make that the headline?

Not related to any hoops in Wisconsin, but did any of you catch the highlights to the Big Sky championship game the other night? Montana's Anthony Johnson had a pretty epic game. Montana was down by 20 at half and ended up beating Weber St. 66-65 thanks in most part to Anthony Johnson's 34 2nd half points and scoring the last 21 points of the game for his team. I know it's against lesser competition but this guy looks awesome in these highlights below. What a game! And a pretty cool story to boot too:

I hadn't heard about that Montana game. Cool story.

From the JS: When Leuer was out, 48.8% of the Badgers' shots were threes. Since he's been back, 24.7% have been threes. I knew it was a drastic change, because I remember screaming about settling for threes, but that's pretty nuts.

Nice find Diskono! I stand corrected. Owens was the lefty that hit that big 3 point shot against Tulsa that sent the Badgers to the Sweet 16 about 7-8 years ago, right? I think they lost to Kentucky that year?

Yes. Yes, he was. And the Badgers did later face Kentucky.

Wow what a gross way to lose! I'm glad though... Beating Michigan wouldn't help UW move up. Beating Ohio State would (in theory... never know with the Badgers and seeding).

That was Marquette's final four year. I seem to remember Gus Johnson calling that Badger game. I wish I could find a tape/clip of the CBS call.

Had this typed and cued up..."There goes Ohio State's chance at a #1 seed. "

Then March Madness happened.

Ugh, I saw that on the big screen at the Union.

Of course you know, Ohio State needs all the good luck it can muster. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif

Will this improve the chance of Evan Turner bolting for the NBA? (hawing asked hopefully; and ignorantly, in case it's been well established that he's gone after the next month)

And as for Wisconsin, neither they nor we should look ahead right now.

a quick vent. i cant believe i am getting sucked into bracketology, marquette was predicted as a steady 9 seed according to lanardi before the game yesterday. now after they beat nova, they drop to a 10 seed...

huh???

(although i would rather be a 10 than a 9 seed)

What a frustrating first half. Hughes has been terrible--he's missed four layups. Illinois is as hot as Wisconsin is cold... That can't keep up, but they need to wake up here.
