2014 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5

Posted

Please use this thread to share your thoughts, links, stories, pictures and anything else on the Brewers' picks on draft day from rounds 1 through 5. Please do not start separate threads to discuss the individual picks.

Please use the in-draft thread to talk about the picks, similar to a game thread.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

T minus a couple minutes!

Please let the draft start so I don't have to watch another Jason Aldean (sic?) commercial.

The first 3 picks went exactly as expected.

SRB, that had to be some kind of spoof smoke and mirrors on some troll's end. Kolek to me with Aiken either or were 1A/1B meaning the other was going second.

I'm surprised the Sox just took Rodon at 3. The hype on Jackson made me think they would select him as the first position player in talent. not the 3rd Pitcher(rank-wise) in talent.

With Rodon gone the Cubs just might draft another position player.

Wow, wow Schwarber 4? If he's going to play 1b doesn't his size concern you defensively? 240lbs? What happens when he comes in to camp at 275? DH spot that doesn't matter. But to me I would worry he adds too much weight.

So realistically...who should I be hoping somehow falls to number 12??

I think there is a chance Sean Newcomb could fall to #12, which I would consider a very good pick for the Brewers if it happened.

I've wanted Freeland, Newcomb, or Holmes for a long time, Schwarber was the only college bat I was interested in. Alex Jackson won't make it to the Brewers pick but he's another very interesting HS bat.

IMO, Hoffman would be awesome if Toronto doesn't sign him. If Alex Jackson goes to Seattle at #6, seems like it wouldn't be that unexpected for any of the remaining players to be there at 12.

If the Rockies pass on Freeland I might get one of my guys.

At least one of these pitchers is guaranteed be available at #12:

Kyle Freeland

Sean Newcomb

Jeff Hoffman

Grant Holmes

Touki Toussaint

I did read a few tweets here and there that said Freeland's medical results were bad and that a lot of people expected him to drop because of it. No idea if it's true or not...

Callis dropped him to #16 in his final mock draft.

According to David Rawnsley and Keith Law, Rockies will take Freeland.

Sounds like Colorado going Freeland.

It's hard for me to put any stock into those last minute "this guy is falling because of X"...

I think Freeland is quicker to the big leagues than Nola and he has plus stuff.

I'm really excited to be back here with all you dudes. It looks like you all have done your homework. I haven't been in here since a few goofballs called me an idiot for being critical of the Jed Bradley selection. I predict the Brewers do well tonight, they seem connected to the right players.
